WFP, due to its expertise and vast field capacity, was

mandated to be the global lead of the Logistics Cluster.

The Logistics Cluster is responsible for coordination,

information management, and, where necessary, the facil-

itation of logistics service provision to ensure an effective

and efficient logistics response takes place in each and

every operation, through the lead agency, WFP.

GUINEA

Since 4 September, the Logistics Cluster has facilitated the transportation of 22,556 m3 of cargo on behalf of 28 or-ganisations, and the storage of 41,026 m3 of cargo on be-half of 25 organisations.

Bioforce’s six “Good Logistics Practices” training sessions provided to Logistics Cluster’s partners were completed last week. To date, the training sessions were held for 100 staff from various humanitarian organisations and the Guinea Government.

LIBERIA

Since 4 September, the Logistics Cluster has facilitated the transportation of 53,486 m3 of cargo on behalf of 46 or-ganisations, and the storage of 69,866 m3 of cargo on behalf of 32 organisations.

The Logistics Cluster continues to facilitate preposition of humanitarian relief items in storage facilities across the country in light of the rainy season: so far, over 1,250 mt of cargo has been prepositioned at the 5 Forward Logistics Bases (FLBs) and 9 Mobile Storage Units (MSUs).

As a preparedness measure in response to the current small-scale outbreak, at SKD Main Logistics Hub WFP has pre-positioned and made available to the Logistics Cluster DAF trucks to support rapid mobilization of humanitarian non-food items to the affected area.

SIERRA LEONE

Since 4 September, the Logistics Cluster has facilitated the transportation of 17,371 m3 of cargo on behalf of 32 or-ganisations and the storage of 17,184 m3 of cargo on be-half of 21 organisations.

The Logistics Cluster is supporting THW (Federal Agency for Technical Relief) as it phases out from Sierra Leone by facilitating the transport of THW assets and in-kind dona-tions across the country as needed.

As part of the strategy to centralize the storage space at Port Loko Main Logistics Hub, the Logistics Cluster is facili-tating the movement of all inter-agency supplies stored in Kenema Forward Logistics Base (FLB) to the Port Loko Hub.

Various updated maps and information products are available on www.logcluster.org/ops/ebola14

“The assistance provided by the Logistics Cluster to facilitate the set-up of base camps in Forecariah and Boke was critical to a rapid, flexible and coordinated response in the fight to get to zero Ebola cases.”

GUINEA

Following the damage at the ETU in Coyah due to heavy rains, works are on-going to reinforce and provide an ade-quate drainage system (two concrete drainage channels completed, two burn pits demolished, excavated and com-pacted).

LIBERIA Within the framework of the WFP – WHO Joint Collabora-

tion, site preparations are expected to be finalised in the coming week. In total, 38 prefab units, 11 ablution units and 12 generators will be transported to the five sites across the country

SIERRA LEONE The Government has launched Operation Northern Push in

Kambia and Port Loko, respond to the continued transmis-sion of the virus in these two districts. WFP, to support the Government to reinforce its existing emergency measures, deployed 14 light vehicles with drivers and fuel to the Dis-trict Ebola Response Centres. WFP, through the Logistics Cluster, provided support to UNICEF in setting up and transporting tents to Kambia.

Within the framework of the WFP – WHO Joint Collabora-tion, Operation Northern Push has led to an increase of activities in the two districts. The number of staff has in-creased in both locations, resulting in additional request for office space, accommodation and fuel supply. In Port Loko, two new prefabricated structures for WHO field offices were installed, while in Kambia three new pre-fabs are to be installed in the existing compound.

WFP COMMON SERVICES

Focus on: Supporting Sensitization cam-paigns in Guinea

In the context of the latest sensitization and early de-tection campaign in Kigbaly, Forecariah, WFP is sup-porting the construction of a remote camp for humani-tarian responders, for which it has supported the provi-sion of a generator, fuel and additional staff. In addition, in collaboration with UNICEF and the Cel-lule de Coordination Logistique Ebola, WFP set-up three base camps in the prefecture of Tanene and Ko-lotoya (Forecariah) and Tamaranssi (Boke), and is now assisting in the management of the camps.

Focus on: WFP Logistics responds to the new cases in Liberia

Following the appearance of new Ebola cases in Margi-bi County, WFP transported 46 mt of food supplies through four DAF fleet trucks to the area in support of WFP’s Emergency Operation. As a preparedness measure, WFP re-built six Rapid Isolation Treatment of Ebola (RITE) kits at SKD Main Logistics Hub. WFP technicians assembled four 42 m2 tents for UNICEF staff who had reached the area to support the self-containment efforts of people residing in the affected area.

UNHAS provides safe and reliable passenger and cargo air

services to the humanitarian community, especially to remote

locations where there are no commercial

alternatives. To optimise the use of resources and ensure

greater operational efficiency, as part of the Ebola Response,

UNHAS and UNMEER operate under one joint schedule

(UNHAS/UNMEER fleet).

Since 16 August 2014, UNHAS has performed 3,756 takeoffs, transporting 19,660 passengers and 146.6 mt of cargo.

In the past two weeks, UNHAS transported 1,285 pas-sengers and 8 mt of cargo, and UNMEER transported 186 passengers and 1 mt of cargo.

The UNHAS West Africa fleet currently consists of four fixed-wing aircraft and five helicopters; two helicopters are equipped to perform medical evacuations for health and humanitarian personnel, one in Guinea and one in Sierra Leone respectively.

In addition, the works for the construction of the heli-pad in Coyah are ongoing.

The Emergency Telecommunications (ET) Cluster provides timely

Information, Communications and Technology services to support

humanitarian community in carrying out their work efficiently,

effectively and safely.

The Emergency Telecommunications (ET) Cluster is provid-ing internet services to 80 humanitarian facilities across Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone. Since the beginning of the operation, more than 3,300 humanitarian responders have used the internet networks set up by the ET Cluster.

The ET Cluster is providing radio services in 17 towns across Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone to ensure access to secure telecommunications for humanitarian responders.

The ET Cluster is reviewing its operations, especially in loca-tions declared Ebola-free where internet connectivity equipment will be retrieved; in areas where cases continue to be registered, services will continue to be provided. In line with this strategy, the ETC has started working on a comprehensive transition plan to ensure a smooth transi-tion of the services to commercial solutions, avoiding any interruptions in the service.

The ET Cluster continues to provide ICT services and equip-ment in support of the WFP – WHO Joint Collaboration across the three countries.

Contacts:

UNHRD is a network of depots around the world that procures,

stores, manages and transports emergency supplies for the

humanitarian community.

UNHRD dispatched 17 mt, valued at USD 88,000, of prefa-bricated office units and furniture to Guinea on behalf of WFP.

Since March, UNHRD has dispatched a total of 2,212 mt of relief items and support equipment valued at USD 27.6 million to the region on behalf of WFP and partners.

© WFP Focus on: Supporting Operation Northern

Push in Sierra Leone

To support the ongoing operation Northern Push in Kambia and Port Loko, the ET Cluster will continue to provide Internet access service in these two districts, as well as in the neigh-boring districts of Bombali, Tonkolili and Moyamba, until 31 July. A point-to-point link to the District Ebola response Centre (DERC) was installed in Kambia, while in Port Loko a repeater channel was installed and the Radio Room was upgraded in Kambia. After 31 July, Internet provision will shift to local commercial options.
