Topic: Graphing Quadratic Equations Standard Form:
Tips/Hints How do you know if a function is a quadratic?
● All quadratic functions have an exponent of 2 or can be factored into a single factor with an exponent of 2.
How to Graph on TiNspire?
1. From HOME, choose Graphs 2. Type in like f1(x) = (at the top of
page) 3. Hit ENTER to display Graph 4. Hit MENU #4 WINDOWN to
control the screen view. 5. Hit MENU #5 GRAPH TRACE to
find max, min, zero of function. 6. Use TAB to enter another function is
f2(x) = …..
Example:
Topic: Factoring Quadratic with GCF Factoring Binomials: NOTE: This is the inverse of the distributive property Difference of Square:
Tips/Hints How to find the prime factorization on the calculator?
1. Using the keypad, type the word “factor”
2. Open parenthesis “(” 3. Type the number 4. Close parenthesis “)” 5. Hit ENTER
EXAMPLE: factor (112)
Example:
Factor using the GCF:
1) 3r + 6
2) 2x2 + 6x
3) 285y3 + 115y 50y2
Topic: Factoring Quadratic with “X” method
Tips/Hints Factoring when the leading the coefficient is 1
Factoring when the leading coefficient is greater than 1
1) Repeat steps 1 and 2 above 2) THEN we divide by the leading
coefficient (a value) and simplify 3) If BOTH answers ARE whole number
then our factors can be written as “a (x+b) (n+c)”
a) “a” is the leading coefficient b) “b” and “c” are the numbers
you get after you divide by “a” 4) If ONE of the answer is a fraction then
our factors can be written written as a) (dx+e) (x+f) meaning that after
we divide by the leading coefficient, our answer was edand f
Example #1: Factor x2 +5x +6
Example #2: Factor 3x2 9x + 6
Example #3: Factor 2x2 + 7x + 3
Topic: Quadratic Formula
Tips/Hints
When you substitute the values in use
PARENTHESIS “( )” Be careful with directions…. Simplest
radical form or decimal GOOD NEWS: This is on the reference
sheet.
Example:
a = b = c =
Topic: Solving Quadratics
Tips/Hints What does it mean to solve a quadratic?
Set each factors equal to 0 and then solve!
What if there is a graph?
