Why Common Assessments?
No Choice- No Question
1. To give the same opportunity to all students to show competency
2. To ensure standards are being addressed
3. To promote collegiality

Anatomy of a Common Assessment – Algebra 1
• 26 problems– 13 multiple choice– 13 short answer
• Each multiple choice question has a corresponding short answer question
• Each question is identified with appropriate California Math Standard
Anatomy of a Common Assessment - Science
• 35 problems multiple choice• Each question is identified with appropriate
California Science Standard
Before the Chapter
•Meet with teachers
•Note the lead teacher for the chapter
•Decide on new questions for the test
•Lead teacher writes the review and test
•Lead teacher gets feedback on test
•Lead teacher passes out a copy of review and test to all teachers
During the Chapter
•Cover all topics
•Review all topics
•Administer the test
•Don’t give them answers to the test
After the Chapter
•Multiple choice section of the test is completed on scantron sheets
•Teachers run answer sheets and an analysis sheet for each class
•A copy of analysis is given to department chair
•Data is compiled and a summary returned to each teacher
