Common Nouns
A word that names ANY person, place, or thing.
Rule: We do not capitalize common nouns - unless they are at the beginning of the sentence.
Proper Nouns
Proper nouns are words that name a PARTICULAR person, place, thing, event, or idea.
Rule: We always capitalize proper nouns.
Examples of proper nouns
• New York
• Shaq
• Super Bowl
Use your white boards to fill in the blanks to the
following sentences with a common or proper noun.
Remember to capitalize the proper nouns.
