Are you a Catholic adult seeking to engage more fully in the life of the
Catholic Church? Then perhaps PFI is for you!
Where are the classes offered?Classes, weekends and courses are held at parish sites across Long Island and at the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception in Huntington.
Pope Francis has challenged
each Catholic to become a “missionary disciple.”
We are to be Christ-bearers,
making His presence known in every time and place.
Bishop Murphy has recently challenged
all to “Belong More Deeply, to Christ and
to His Church.”
PFI provides the active Catholic with a process
for developing the human, spiritual, intellectual
and pastoral aspects of an integrated life of faith.
The two-year process offers a variety
of experiences through which the participant deepens
a commitment to his/her baptism. The adult Catholic is given
the opportunity to study the Bible with a group of peers open to discover the active presence of the Spirit in their midst.
Faith-sharing, praying with scripture and communal prayer
are part of each session.
First Year: Understanding, God, Self, and Others
In Year I PFI participants gain a deeper understanding that we are all created in the image and likeness of God. Through professional instruction, prayer, faith-sharing and assigned readings, the Year I student grows in the knowledge of and ability to articulate his/her faith. Year I includes twenty-eight, two-hour sessions at parish sites throughout the Diocese, one weekend and two Saturdays held at the Seminary in Huntington.
A study of the Old and New Testaments using a thematic approach, combined with the development of listening skills and the disciplined prayer approach of Lectio Divina, will provide a firm foundation for the ongoing development of one’s life of faith.
Who Teaches the courses?All courses and formation weekend workshops are facilitated by well qualified instructors who must have a minimum of an MA degree in Theology or the equivalent. All instructors are required to follow the curriculum issued by the Office of Faith Formation.
Second Year: Becoming Lightto the World
In Year II the student deepens his or her knowledge of the Church’steachings and traditions; buildsan understanding of the Churchas a community of people calledand gifted by God; and encourageshim/her to be an active witness ofChrist in the broader community.

El Papa Francisco ha desafiado a cada católico a convertirse en un
“discípulo misionero”.
Hemos de ser Portadores de Cristo,haciendo notar Su presencia en todo tiempo y lugar. Recientemente el obispo Murphy nos ha desafiado a
“Pertenecer Más Profundamente,a Cristo y a su Iglesia”
El PFI proporciona a los adultos católicos un proceso para el desarrollo personal, espiritual, intelectual y pastoral deuna vida integrada en la fe.
Este proceso de dos años ofrece una variedad de experiencias en donde el participante profundiza su compro-miso bautismal. El adulto católico tendrá la oportunidad de estudiar la Biblia con un grupo de compañeros dispuestos a descubrir la presencia activa del Espíritu Santo en medio de ellos.
De la misma manera en cada sesión podrán compartir su fe y orar a la luz de las Sagradas Escrituras en comunidad.
Primer año: Comprensión de Dios, de Sí Mismo y Otros.
En el primer año los participantes adquieren una comprensión más profunda de que todos somos creados a imagen y semejanza de Dios. A través de una instrución profesional, oración, el compartir de la fe y las lecturas asignadas; el estudiante crece en conocimiento y en la habilidad de expresar su fe.
El Primer Año incluye 28 sesiones de 2 horas en distintas parroquias a lo largo de la diócesis, un fin de semana y dos sábados en el Seminario de Huntington.
El estudio del Antiguo y NuevoTestamento utilizando un enfoque temático, en combinación con el desarrollo del arte de escuchar y la oración disciplinada con la práctica de Lectio Divina; proporcionarán una base solida para el contínuo desarrollo de la vida de fe.
¿Quién enseña los cursos?
Todos los cursos, talleres y fines de semana de formación son facilitados por instructores calificados que deben tener como mínimo una maestría enTeología o el equivalente . Todos los instructores deberán cumplir el plan de estudios emitido por la Oficina de Formación en la Fe .
Segundo año: Convertirse enla Luz del Mundo.
En el segundo año, el estudiante profundiza su conocimiento de las enseñanzas y tradiciones de la Iglesia; edifica un entendimiento de la Iglesia como la comunidad de personas llamadas y dotadas por Dios; y esto le motivará a ser discípulo misionero de Cristo en la comunidad en pleno.
