BACCALAUREATE SPEAKERTHE REV. DR. TERI MCDOWELL OTT MONMOUTH COLLEGE CHAPLAIN

With 18 years of pastoral experience, Rev. Dr. Teri McDowell Ott has served the church in a variety of roles and as Monmouth College’s chaplain since 2011. She has written on preaching and the religiously unaffiliated “nones” for The Christian Century magazine

and contributed to the book There’s a Woman in the Pulpit. At Monmouth, Ott helped found the Lux Center for Church and Religious Leadership, and she has renewed its Presbyterian affiliation. As a result of her efforts, in 2014, Monmouth was invited to co-host a national convening of Presbyterian Church-related colleges with Eboo Patel’s Interfaith Youth Core. Ott earned her Master of Divinity degree from Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary and her Doctor of Ministry degree from McCormick Theological Seminary.

JON MEACHAM, PULITZER PRIZE-WINNING PRESIDENTIAL HISTORIAN AND JOURNALIST

A frequent commentator on television programs such as Meet the Press and Morning Joe, Jon Meacham also appeared in the 2014 Ken Burns docu-mentary The Roosevelts: An Intimate History. His latest book, Destiny and Power: The American Odyssey of

George Herbert Walker Bush, debuted at No. 1 on The New York Times bestseller list in November 2015. Among his other national bestsellers are American Lion: Andrew Jackson in the White House, which won the Pulitzer Prize in 2009, Thomas Jefferson: The Art of Power, Franklin and Winston and American Gospel.

Currently executive vice president and executive editor at the Random House Publishing Group and a contributing editor for Time, Meacham previously served as managing editor editor-in-chief of Newsweek. Named a “Global Leader for Tomorrow” by the World Economic Forum, Meacham is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and a fellow of the Society of American Historians. Guests are also welcome to bring chairs and sit or stand beyond the general seating area. All guests are advised to bring jackets and rain gear, as the ceremony may be held in cool temperatures or under light showers.
