PUBLIC TRAN SPORTATIO N

Zagreb's public transportation system is called ZET, short for Zagrebački Električni Tramvaj (Zagreb

Electric Tram). In the centre of the city it is organized primarily with trams. Major tram stops have

electronic displays with the information about the tram line and the direction, as well as the time of

its arrival at that stop. Trams run every 8-13 minutes, depending on the line and the part of the day.

All low-floor trams are equipped with audio-visual announcements.

Paper tram tickets (valid also for buses, which operate mainly in suburb parts of the city) can be

bought at “Tisak” kiosks, ZET stores or from the tram driver. They shall be validated inside the tram

at ticket machines at either end of the tram (middle machines will not validate paper tickets).

There are several types of paper tickets you can choose: one-way tickets valid

for 30 min (4 kn) or 90 min (10 kn), a day ticket (30 kn) and multi-day tickets

(3 days = 70 kn, 7 days = 150 kn).

The price of a single ticket for the night lines (from 00:00 to 04:00) is 15 kn.

Please note that tram tickets could be paid in Croatian currency “kuna” only. There are exchange

offices at the airport, close to the Railway Station, Bus Station and around the main square. The

exchange rate is determined on a daily basis with the average buying rate in March 2017 being

1 EUR = 7,38 kn (HRK).

A funicular (uspinjača) in Tomideva street is not only the tourist attraction,

but also a means to get you from the city centre known as Lower Town

(Donji grad) to the historical part of the city called Upper Town (Gornji grad)

if you don’t feel like climbing the stairs. It runs every 10 minutes and the

ticket can be bought at the entrance for 4 kn (valid for one-way ride).

Zagreb has an automatic bike sharing system Nextbike. Prior to your first rental, it is neccessary to

activate your nextbike account which automatically activates standard tariff. Registration is free, but

mandatory. For the activation of your nextbike account you need to transfer 79 kn to nextbike

account and this amount can be used as a credit for bike rentals. Every day the first 30-minutes are

free of charge and every additional 60 min are charged 8 kn (5-24 hour ride is charged 79 kn). There

are more than 10 locations where you can find nextbike, one of them being at the Railway Station.

Using taxi services in Zagreb is relatively inexpensive. Fares can vary between the companies with

the average price of 6 kn per km. Start is charged 6-10 kn.
