‘30,000 feet view’: The big picture of Dalal Street
Good Morning & Welcome to Tuesday's trading action at Dalal Street, dated 13th of
November 2018.
Judging by early action at SGX Nifty, it appears another pretty nasty session on cards for
stock investors at Dalal Street. You can blame it to:
1. Weak global cues.
2. A strong U.S Dollar.
3. Federal Reserve signaling that it would continue to tighten monetary policy at a
gradual pace.
4. Weakening Chinese economy.
Our call of the day suggests markets across globe will remain volatile until concrete
progress is made in U.S.-China trade relations. The need of the hour is amicable U.S - China
trade deal, and if there is no solution soon then worldwide stock markets are into big
trouble. As per latest reports, U.S., China resumed their high-level trade talks
ahead of Trump-Xi meeting set for the end of the month.
Technically, Nifty faces major hurdles at its 200-DMA at 10,765 zone. The bulls' case
strengthens above Nifty 10763. Until then there is downside risk to 10325 and then finally
at 10241.
Now, before we get into detail, let's see what caught our eye in last 24 hours:
1. Overnight, the Dow Jones Industrial Average slid 602 points or 2.3%, logging worst
day in 3 weeks.
2. India's Consumer Inflation eases to 3.31% in October, slowest in 13 months.
3. Crude-oil prices fell to the $59 per barrel level despite a signal by OPEC that it was
mulling a production cut after oil entered a bear market last week, falling 20 percent
from its high.
4. A shock drop in oil prices is raising questions among investors about the health of
the global market.
5. All eyes will be on the upcoming assembly elections in five states- Madhya Pradesh,
Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Mizoram and Telangana. Counting of votes will be held
across all the five states on December 11.
6. All anxious eyes will be on the prominent firms announcing Q2 are:
Tuesday: 8KMILES ALBK, APOLLOTYRE, ASHOKLEY, BIRLA CABLE, BOMDYEING, CG
POWER, DALMIA SUGAR, DRL, GLENMARK, GRASIM, IRCON, MARKSANS, NCC, NMDC,
PTC, RITES, SUNPHARMA, SUNTECK, TATASTEEL.
Bottom line: Expect a volatile trading session amidst extremely weak global cues. The
only silver lining is tumbling oil prices. We suspect, RBI will not raise rates in December
meeting because of falling oil prices and as inflation continues to be on the lower side.
Traders will spy with one big eye if the Indian Rupee is under slight depreciation pressure
because the strength in U.S Dollar index.
Outlook for Tuesday: Negative start. Sell on any intraday
strength
This Monday morning, SGX Nifty is indicating a negative start for our stock markets. After
a sluggish open, we suspect stock specific action likely to command investors' attention.
Trading is likely to be light.

GLOBAL CUES:
In Monday's trade, Wall Street ended sharply lower as sentiments were already subdued
after the Federal Reserve signaled that it would continue to tighten monetary policy at a
gradual pace. The absence of any major changes to its commentary suggests that the
central bank plans to raise interest rates in December and plans three hikes next year, in
line with market expectations.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average tumbling 600 points as crude oil prices extended their
retreat
FII/DII & OPTIONS DATA:
As per Monday’s Provisional Data available on the NSE, FII’s bought shares worth Rs.
832.15 crores in the Indian Equity Market. DIIs on the other hand, sold shares worth
Rs.1073.84 crores in the Indian Equity market.
• As per option data, key resistance level for the November series for Nifty are at
11,000 strike price as maximum call open interest of 34.15 lakh contracts were seen
at the 11,000 strike price. Key support level for the November series is at 10,000 as
Maximum Put open interest of 48.11 lakh contracts was seen at the 10,000 strike
price.
COMMODITY CUES:
• Crude-Oil prices extended their retreat, despite reports that Saudi Arabia plans to
cut production by 500,000 barrels per day from December and called for a global
output cut of one million barrels per day to support oil price.
In Monday's trading session, Hindustan
Petroleum (HPCL) ended on a negative note,
down 6.73% on backdrop of reports that Saudi
Arabia plans to cut production by 500,000 barrels
per day from December and called for a global
output cut of one million barrels per day to
support oil price.
Technically, HPCL was seen correcting from
overbought zone on the daily charts.
The stock is in higher consolidation mode and
the momentum oscillators are signaling
weakness. Confirmation of weakness on any
move below 213 and any such move below 213
needs to be backed by increases in volumes.
Key support to watch in near term is at 213 zone.
Medium term supports seen at 195 zone.
Sell between 227-231 zone, targeting 213 zone
and then aggressive targets at 195-201 zone

‘30,000 feet view’: The big picture of Dalal Street
• Copper prices were seen trading subdued in Monday's trade. Interweek strategy: Establish short positions between 437-441 zone, targeting
425 mark and then at 411-415 zone. Stop above 453.
• Gold price traded sideways in yesterday's trade. Key medium term suppport seen at 30201 mark. Interweek strategy: Establish short
positions between 31251-31450 zone, targeting 30201 mark and then aggressive targets at 30000 with stop at 31901.
MACRO WATCH:
• On investors’ radar would be drama surrounding Federal Reserve's strong assessment of the U.S economy, indicating a rate hike in
December is on course. Well, this could take the air out of any excessive rally at our stock markets. The Fed reiterated its positive outlook on
the economy, but made a nod to the deteriorating business climate after it said investment spending had cooled down. This came after an
otherwise healthy reading of third-quarter GDP revealed some weakness in business investment, mostly attributed to tariff-related issues.
• On the political front, elections to the Chhattisgarh legislative assembly are scheduled to be held in the two phases. First phase for 18 seats
in South Chhattisgarh kicked off yesterday, 12 November 2018 and second for remaining 72 seats of North Chhattisgarh will be held on 20
November 2018. Combining a total of 90 constituencies. The tenure of Chhattisgarh legislative assembly ends on 5 January 2019. The
Madhya Pradesh and Mizoram assembly elections will be held on 28 November 2018. Polling in Rajasthan and Telangana will be held on 7
December 2018. Counting of votes will be held across all the five states on 11 December 2018.
CURRENCIES & BONDS:
• In Monday's trade, the Indian Rupee weakened by 39 Paise to end at 72.89 mark against Dollar. At the current level, the rupee is down 14.5
per cent against the dollar so far this year. Supports for USD/INR seen at 71.75. Intermonth strategy: Buy between 72-72.25 zone,
targeting 75 and then aggressive targets at 77 with strict stop below 71.45.
What Technical Tells Us on Nifty: Benchmark indices suffered modest losses in Monday's trade, down 0.97%. Actually, after a positive
opening, Dalal Street broadly turned lower in Monday's trade as the market looked to correct from last week's strength. The negative catalyst:
Investors remain wary of shaky global cues amidst lingering U.S.-China trade tensions.
Also hurting sentiments were weakening Indian Rupee by 54 paise to 73.04 and crude-oil's rebound attempt. Oil rose 1%, after Saudi Arabia said
OPEC and its partners believed demand was softening enough to warrant an output cut of 1 million barrels per day.
The market breadth, indicating the overall health of the market, was negative. The BSE Mid-Cap index fell 0.91%. The BSE Small-Cap index fell
0.83%. Both these indices outperformed the Sensex.
Technically speaking, key support for Nifty in near term is at 9,951 mark. The technical landscape will worsen further if Nifty closes below the 9,951
mark as that would open the door to massive technical selling, possibly quickly towards the 9750-9801 zone.
Intraday supports on Nifty are placed at 10491 and then at 10325 mark and then at 10241 mark. The intraday bias shifts to neutral after
yesterday's sharp fall.
The make or break hurdles are at 10707-10,775 zone. Intraday hurdles at 10,621 mark.
The price action for Nifty is suggesting that we are likely to see an 10251 -
10,711 range in near term with neutral bias.
Bulls Vs. Bears: Time to Pick a Side!!
Volatility likely to be the hallmark of today's trade.
Preferred trade on Nifty: Nifty (10482): Sell between 10501-10551
zone targeting 10401 zone and then aggressive targets at 10257-10301
zone with stop at 10777.
Preferred trade on Bank Nifty (25540): Sell between 25600-25701
zone, targeting 25201 zone and then aggressive targets at 24751-24901
zone with stop at 26201.
