‘30,000 feet view’: The big picture of Dalal Street
Good Morning & Welcome to Thursday's trading action at Dalal Street, dated 15th of
November 2018.
There's a negative mood at Wall Street right now. The negative catalyst:
1. Crude-oil’s abrupt decline in recent days.
2. A resolution of the U.S.-China trade war remains elusive.
3. Concerns about the Fed hiking rates at a time when global growth rates are coming
down.
4. Weak German growth data. German economy shrank for the first time in 3 years.
5. Italy's refusal to revise its budget.
6. Uncertainty around the latest Brexit developments.
The big question of the day: Will our stock markets too run into trouble?
Well, to start with, yesterday's trading session at Dalal Street was uninspiring. The
negative takeaway was that Dalal Street could not register gains despite crude-oil prices
tumbling 7% in Tuesday's trade, and marking their 12th straight session of losses.
Amidst this backdrop, a red flag for Dalal Street primarily as Nifty is unable to move up
despite tanking crude-oil prices to around the $56 per barrel level.
Our call of the day says Nifty may largely rally, making up to yesterday's consolidation.
But having said that profit booking should set in on higher levels. The good thing is that a
Nasty session unlikely for stock investors at Dalal Street. Bulls may regroup on any
corrective declines and stock specific action likely to command investors' attention.
Bargain hunting and momentum buying likely to be the preferred theme.
Digging deeper, the bulls' case strengthens only above Nifty's 200 DMA which is at 10,763.
Long story short: Trade cautiously until Nifty moves above 10,761 mark.
Outlook for Thursday: Consolidation day likely. Positive session
likely.
This Thursday morning, SGX Nifty is indicating a positive start for our stock markets, but
we suspect as the day progresses volatility will rule the roost.
Now, before we get into detail, let's see what caught our eye in last 24 hours:
1. Overnight, the Dow Jones Industrial Average slid 205 points or 0.81%. Apple’s
weakness was weighing on investors’ confidence,
2. Crude-oil prices fell to the $56 per barrel level. A shock drop in oil prices is raising
questions among investors about the health of the global market.
3. All anxious eyes will be on the scheduled meeting between Trump and
President Xi Jinping set for the end of the month at the G-20 summit in
Buenos Aires.
4. All eyes will be on the upcoming assembly elections in five states- Madhya Pradesh,
Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Mizoram and Telangana. Counting of votes will be held
across all the five states on December 11.
• The prominent firms announcing Q2 are (Thursday): CGCL, DCW, Sreiinfra.

Technical Strategy
‘30,000 feet view’: The big picture of Dalal Street
• Bullish stocks: MARUTI, HDFC BANK ICICI BANK and RELIANCE INDUSTRIES
• Bearish stocks: BRITANNIA, BEML, CANFINA HOMES, BHEL, AMARA RAJA
BATTERY, SUN TV, BOSCH.
• Show Me the Money: Sell SUN TV (615.60): Momentum oscillators in sell mode. Key
intraday hurdles at 632. Interweek Strategy: Sell between 619-622 zone, targeting
601 zone and then at 587-591 zone with stop above 635.
• Stocks banned in F&O segment for today: ADANI POWER, JET AIRWAYS.
• Ashok Chawla steps down as Yes Bank Chairman with immediate effect.
His exit could be the outcome of the likely conflict of interest over his multiple roles
as NSE Chairman and the board member of other companies such as Yes Bank and
Jet Airways.
GLOBAL CUES:
• In Wednesday's trade, Wall Street ended lower as blue-chip Apple Inc. flirted with
bear-market territory.
Sentiments were already subdued after the Federal Reserve signaled that it would
continue to tighten monetary policy at a gradual pace. The absence of any major
changes to its commentary suggests that the central bank plans to raise interest
rates in December and plans three hikes next year, in line with market expectations.
FII/DII & OPTIONS DATA:
1. As per Wednesday’s Provisional Data available on the NSE, foreign institutional
investors (FIIs) bought shares worth Rs 277.38 crore and domestic institutional
investors sold Rs 272.24 crore worth of shares in the Indian equity market.
2. As per option data, key resistance level for the November series for Nifty are at
11,000 strike price as maximum call open interest of 34.39 lakh contracts were seen
at the 11,000 strike price. Key support level for the November series is at 10,200 as
Maximum Put open interest of 31.94 lakh contracts was seen at the 10,200 strike
price.
COMMODITY CUES:
• MCX Natural-gas was seen rocketing higher in yesterday's trade, settling at their
highest price since February 2014. Cold weather forecasts were seen as primary
catalyst for the jump in Natural Gas prices.
• Gold price traded sideways in yesterday's trade. Key medium term suppport seen at
30201 mark. Interweek strategy: Establish short positions between 31001-31101
zone, targeting 30201 mark and then aggressive targets at 30000 with stop at
31501.
• Copper prices were seen trading subdued in yesterday's trade. Interweek strategy:
Establish short positions between 437-441 zone, targeting 425 mark and then at
411-415 zone. Stop above 453.
• Crude-oil prices traded subdued in yesterday's trade. Confirmation of strength only
above 4601. Interweek strategy: Establish long positions at CMP, targeting 4601
and then 4823 zone with stop at 3851.
MACRO WATCH:
• Tanking oil prices could act as silver lining for our stock markets. Amid this backdrop,
RBI is unlikely to raise rates in December meeting as inflation continues to be on the
lower side. India's Consumer Inflation (CPI) has eased to 3.31% in October, slowest
in 13 months.
RELIANCE INDUSTRIES (RIL) is seen
consolidating at lower levels on daily charts. The
stock is seen attempting a major breakout from
a lower consolidation zone on daily charts, and
was down 0.14% in yesterday's trade.
Technically, the momentum oscillators are
signaling a major rebound on the buy mode. Any
move above 1137.50 zone will confirm strength
which also needs to be backed by increases in
volumes. The stock is seen moving up on daily
charts, backed by positive divergences.
Key support to watch in near term is at 1056 zone.
Medium term supports seen at 1021 zone.
Intermonth perspective: Establish long
positions between 1081-1089 zone, targeting
1127-1137.50 zone and then at 1165-1175 mark
with strict stop at 1041.

‘30,000 feet view’: The big picture of Dalal Street
• On the political front, elections to the Chhattisgarh legislative assembly are scheduled to be held in the two phases. First phase for 18 seats
in South Chhattisgarh kicked off yesterday, 12 November 2018 and second for remaining 72 seats of North Chhattisgarh will be held on 20
November 2018. Combining a total of 90 constituencies. The tenure of Chhattisgarh legislative assembly ends on 5 January 2019. The
Madhya Pradesh and Mizoram assembly elections will be held on 28 November 2018. Polling in Rajasthan and Telangana will be held on 7

CURRENCIES & BONDS:
• In Wednesday's trade, the Indian Rupee strengthened by 35 Paise to end at 72.32 mark against Dollar. At the current level, the rupee is
down around 14% against the dollar so far this year. Supports for USD/INR seen at 71.75. Intermonth strategy: Buy between 72-72.25
zone, targeting 75 and then aggressive targets at 77 with strict stop below 71.45.
What Technical Tells Us on Nifty: The benchmark Nifty was seen consolidating in yesterday's trade. The market breadth, indicating the overall
health of the market, was negative. The BSE Mid-Cap index rose 0.19%. The BSE Small-Cap index fell 0.21%.
The negative takeaway was that Dalal Street could not register gains despite crude-oil prices tumbling 7% in last 24 hours, and marking their 12th
straight session of losses.
Technically speaking, Intraday supports on Nifty are placed at 10401 and then at then at 10241 mark. The intraday bias shifts to neutral after
yesterday's range bound movement.
Long term supports for Nifty in near term is at 9,951 mark. The technical landscape will worsen further if Nifty closes below the 9,951 mark as that
would open the door to massive technical selling, possibly quickly towards the 9750-9801 zone.
The make or break hurdles are at 10707-10,775 zone. Intraday hurdles at 10,651 mark.
The price action for Nifty is suggesting that we are likely to see an 10251 -10,711 range in near term with neutral bias.
Bulls Vs. Bears: Time to Pick a Side!!
Volatility likely to be the hallmark of today's trade.
Preferred trade on Nifty: Nifty (10576): Sell on any excessive strength between 10671-10701 zone targeting 10401 zone and then aggressive
