Technical Strategy
‘30,000 feet view’: The big picture of Dalal Street
There are signs of stabilization at Turkey’s currency crisis, and amidst this positive
backdrop, investors will focus on healthy domestic economy and the strong corporate
results.
Technically, the must watch supports are at 11,313. Any successive close below 11,313 will
trigger larger waterfall of selling with larger declines towards 10,900-10,950 zone. Hurdles
are at 10501 mark.
Long story short: Nifty will aim its all-time-highs at 11,495.20.
Global cues:
• In Thursday’s trade, Wall Street closed firmly higher, with the Dow having its best
day in four months, on strong corporate earnings from Walmart Inc. and Cisco
Systems Inc. News that the U.S. and China are prepared to resume trade talks next
week also bolstered investors’ sentiment.
Commodity Cues:
• In commodities, Oil prices traded sluggish in Thursday's trade, weighed down by a
report of increased U.S. crude inventories and as a darkening economic outlook
stoked expectations of lower fuel demand.
Also, Turkey’s currency crisis appeared to put some indirect pressure on crude-oil
prices, with market participants tying modest weakness partly to a stronger dollar.
Escalating trade disputes are casting a shadow over the outlook for economic
growth and pushing up the dollar, the currency in which oil is traded internationally,
making it more expensive for consumers using other currencies.
• Copper prices too were seen tumbling in yesterday's session unable to stage any
rebound from its lowest level in a year.
• Gold prices have fallen to an 18-month low amidst strength in U.S Dollar which hit a
14-month high. Silver too has tumbled to multi year lows.
Currencies & Bonds:
• The U.S Dollar index was in limelight and was perceived as safe heaven as it
continued to trade near the 14-month high despite Turkey’s lira stablizing near its
historic lows.
• Turkey’s lira rebounded on Thursday -- for a third straight session, even as the
animosity between Ankara and Washington appeared to escalate.
• In Thursday’s trade, the rupee slipped 26 paise to close below the 70-mark for the
first time. The Indian rupee collapsed to a historic intra-day trading low of 70.40
before closing at fresh life-time low of 70.15 per dollar
Worries due to Turkish economic crisis and a sharp plunge in the lira were the key
negative catalysts. USD/INR (69.90): Interweek strategy: Establish long position
between 69.70-69.75 zone, targeting 70.50 and then aggressive targets at 72.50-
73 with stop at 68.87.
Macro Watch:
1. As per recent data, it appears that China is feeling the brunt of trade war. The
China's Shanghai Composite has fallen into a bear market since June while Wall
Street indices are still hovering near record highs on backdrop of strong U.S.
economy which is seen firing on all cylinders amidst low unemployment and solid
GDP growth. Also, the Q2 U.S earning season was quite robust.

In Tuesday’s trade, Tata Elxsi enjoyed a strong
session, up 1.37%. In yesterday's session, the
stock ended almost unchanged after a positive
session.
Technically, Tata Elxsi is attempting a major
breakout on daily charts from an higher
consolidation zone.
The stock is in consolidation mode and the
momentum oscillators will shift on buy mode on
any move above 1455 and such up move needs to
be backed by increases in volumes.
Key support to watch in near term is at 1375 zone.
Medium term supports seen at 1321 zone.
Intermonth perspective: Establish long
positions at CMP, and on dips between 1395-1405
zone, targeting 1455 zone and then at 1501 and
final aggressive targets at 1587 zone with strict

‘30,000 feet view’: The big picture of Dalal Street
Net-net, it appears that U.S. will dominate China, the more the conflict prolongs.
• India's crude oil import bill is likely to jump by about USD 26 billion in 2018-19 as rupee dropping to a record low has made buying of oil from
overseas costlier, government officials said today. Besides, the rupee hitting a record low of 70.32 to a US dollar in the opening deal today will
also lead to a hike in the retail selling price of petrol, diesel and cooking gas (LPG).
India, which imports over 80 per cent of its oil needs, spent USD 87.7 billion (Rs. 5.65 lakh crore) on importing 220.43 million tonne (MT) of
crude oil in 2017-18. For 2018-19, the imports are pegged at almost 227 MT.
• All anxious eyes will continue to be on the progress on monsoon. The street will also keep a close eye on the movement of Indian Rupee and
the Crude-Oil prices as that could influence investors’ sentiment.
• The rupee had touched an all-time low of 7010 against the dollar on concerns about contagion from Turkey spilling over to other emerging
markets. A weaker currency complicates the Reserve Bank of India’s job of keeping prices in check.
What Technical Tells Us on Nifty: Nifty ended Thursday’s session with modest losses, down 0.44% amidst weak global cues.
The market breadth, indicating the overall health of the market, was also negative. The BSE Mid-Cap index fell 0.48%. The BSE Small-Cap index fell
0.20%. Both these indices outperformed the Sensex.
Technically speaking, the must watch support levels are placed at 11,319 & then at 11,231. The technical landscape will worsen only if Nifty slips
below the 10,901 mark as that would open the door to massive technical selling, possibly quickly to the 10,501-10,601 zone.
Going forward, the intraday bias shifts to neutral/positive amidst suspected short covering action. Nifty’s monthly chart shows that there's further
room to go up, amidst latest breakout set-up after the long consolidative phase. The momentum technical indicators are in bullish mode.
For the day, we believe, Nifty will trade with slight positive bias with downside well supported at 11319 mark. Hurdles continue to be at
psychological 11,501 mark. Intraday hurdles at 11,471 mark.
The price action for Nifty is suggesting that we are likely to see an 11,301-11,551 range in near term with positive bias.
Bulls Vs. Bears: Time to Pick a Side!!
Establish long positions as we suspect, Nifty will aim its all-time-highs.
Preferred trade on Nifty: Nifty (11485): Buy at CMP, targeting 11471 and then at 11545-11551 zone with stop at 11301.
Preferred trade on Bank Nifty: Bank Nifty (27827): Establish short positions between 28101-28251 zone, targeting 27551 zone and then at
27001-27101 zone with strict stop at 28551.
