Light will start to flash here when you turn your pen on at step 6
1. Press the Windows key on the bottom left-
hand corner of your keyboard
2. Start typing Bluetooth
3. Select Bluetooth and other devices settings
4. Select Add Bluetooth or other device
5. Select Bluetooth

6. Hold down the top button of the Surface Pen for
about seven seconds – until the light at the top of the
pen starts to flash
7. When the Surface Pen appears in the list of Bluetooth
devices on screen, select it to connect
8. Your pen is connected when you see Your device is
ready to go! on screen

1. Magnetic attachment
2. Hold down top button for 7 seconds to sync with your
device (light will flash)
3. Top button acts as an eraser
4. Train your device to recognise your handwriting:
- Click and type ‘pen’
- Then select ‘Pen Settings’ and click ‘Get to know my
handwriting’

1. Right-click anywhere on the desktop and select Display
Settings
2. Scroll down to Multiple displays and select Extend these
displays if you want to use the Surface Pro screen as an
additional screen
3. On the Surface screen select Keep changes

1. Select screen 2 under the Display heading
2. Scroll down to Multiple displays select Make this my main display
3. Click and drag the numbered boxes in the Select and rearrange displays section
to reflect their actual position
Screen positioning is important for correct mouse movement tracking when
using Extended Displays
You can select Duplicate these displays to display the same thing on both
screens and leave the Surface Pro closed when connected to the monitor

Navigate to your W: drive:
1. + E opens File Explorer
2. Find your team’s shared business data (shared folders)
under the W: drive
Note: Access to data saved in W: drive is only available
from DoE offices and schools

Access printers in any DoE office:
1. Open your W: drive
2. Open Tech Tools
3. Double click on Select Printer
4. Select the printer you need
5. Select Set as default printer if desired
Note: The printer list will auto generate based on your current
location

1. Print your file
2. Select the FollowMePrint option in the Printer dropdown
3. At the printer, swipe your DoE pass or token against the
blue “Tap your card here” panel
4. If requested, follow the prompts to login with your DoE
username and password
5. From the Home Screen you can:
- Copy
- Scan to Email
- Print On Demand (select this option to access your
print queue)

Install a range of pre-packaged software on your
Surface device:
1. Click on the Start Menu and start typing Software Centre
2. Select the software package you want to install
3. Click Install
4. The install will begin. A new window will appear advising
that the program is now installing. Once the installation
completes the Software Centre will show the software as
installed
Note: Only download those apps you have licences for!

1. Click Applications button on menu panel

4. Click to install. Follow any prompts to restart machine to complete installation

• When you open Outlook for the first time, it will ask you
to enter your username and password
• At the Windows security window:
1. Select more choices
2. Enter your full email address and password
3. Select Remember my credentials
Note: When you change your password through Staff
Portal, Outlook needs to know. You will need to enter
your new password on all devices, including mobile
phones

• 1 Tb of storage!
• Desktop, documents, Internet favourites save automatically to OneDrive
• Files in OneDrive are automatically backed up
• Share files as links not attachments (to avoid file size limitations)
• No need for USBs and email attachments
• Share files with people outside the department and collaborate in real-time
• Ensure you set the correct rights when sharing – assign read access or write access?
• Do not allow access to Anyone with the link
• Does not replace shared folders (W: drive) – use it as a personal drive

Save files from Office 2016 applications
1. Open new document
2. Navigate to File Tab
3. Select Save As
4. Double click OneDrive
5. Save to your preferred OneDrive subfolder
Note: You can follow this ‘save as’ process from Word,
Excel, PowerPoint applications

1. Make sure you have saved the file to OneDrive
2. Navigate to File Tab
3. Select Share
4. Select Share with People
5. Invite people you wish to share the document with
6. Assign edit or view permissions

If you’re offsite or in an all day meeting, let colleagues know by updating “what’s happening today” Add a location to your profile, if you are
working from an alternative location

There are a number of ways to join a Skype meeting:
1. Open the calendar invite and Click ‘Join Skype Meeting’
2. In Skype, click on the calendar icon to view upcoming
meetings. Double click an appointment to easily join
via Skype
3. Type the Skype Conference ID (found in the meeting
invite details) into your VC unit to join Skype from a
meeting room
