GEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

Pleven town occupies the Central part of the Danube lowland, located at almost equal distance from the Danube River and the Balkan mountain range. The town is 170 km away from the capital Sofia. Pleven district has over 350 thousands inhabitants, 150 thousands out of them are citizens of the town itself and turn it in a strong urban center, the seventh largest city in Bulgaria.

Bulgarian Education System Structure

Education in Bulgaria is compulsory until the age of 16. Theschool year consists of two terms, starts on September 15thand ends in May or June. The education system consists of thefollowing levels: pre-primary education, primary education,secondary education and higher education. Pre-primaryembraces the children between 3 to 6/7 years old.Elementary education comprises primary school (grades 1through 4) and lower secondary school/second step of basicschool (grades 5 - 8). Elementary education can be obtainedat state schools, municipality schools or private schools. Inaddition, at the same education level, vocational training isavailable in accordance with professional-technical curriculaupon completion of grades 6, 7 or 8. School children whohave successfully completed grade 4 obtain the Certificate forPrimary Education. The Certificate for Elementary Education isissued for the successful completion of grade 8.

Bulgarian Education System Secondary education

Secondary education can be divided into comprehensive

education (comprehensive and specialized schools) andvocational training. General secondary education can beobtained at comprehensive schools (course duration 3-4years) and at specialized schools (course duration 4-5 years).The admission in the specialized schools is upon completionof grades 7 or 8 and after exams depending on the profile ofthe school. (in Bulgarian language and literature,mathematics, humanities etc.)

Over 500 pupils from eighth to twelfth grade are studying in

DFSG”Intellect” at the moment. They study diverse aspects of

the economic field in accordance with the challenges of the

modern education and demands of the labour market.
