Our names are Edoardo and ValerioThe first thing that distinguishes Italy

from Germany is the food. German people start the day with a rich breakfast with ham and cheese besides the usual things that we are used to eat. This is

because they think they must get strong since the morning to face their working

day.

We noticed that German people drink much more beer than we do, and they start drinking when they are still very

young. This is forbidden in Italy.

They often use bicycles to go around the city, and they are lucky because the state pays for half of the price of their bikes. Their classes are from one to twelve while in Italy we have a different organization.

Hallo, mein Name ist Sergio Mauro und ich bin 15. I am a student of I.T.I Galileo Ferraris and I am pleased to tell you my adventures in Germany.

The first day was great, also because it was the first time that I went out of Italy. Germany is beautiful, but even more so the people I met there.

The first day I were at school and I met German people, they are really fantastic! Then I went home and I met my German family, at first I was a little shy, but then I felt as if I were at my house. In the evening I enjoyed a barbecue, the food was all delicious. Then I went home and I had a little time to relax.

Then I went to the shop center where I bought a nice pair of shoes and two nice shirts. It must be said that prices are a bit higher than in Italy!

The next day I went to school and I enjoyed the works of the others; afterwards, my teachers, my Italian friends and me showed our work to the German, Polsh and Turkish students and teachers.

It was great!

My name is Domenico De Rosa and I am 17. On 29th May 2012 I went to Germany, to take part to the project of the European Community Comenius “EU-Root: What Binds Us Together”. When I arrived in Germany I met the Maier family. Mr and Mrs Maier have two daughters. I met Jan, he is 14 years old. I spent a lot of time with him.

In the morning I got up at 7:30 a.m. and we went to school. After school Jan took me to a swimming pool. It was very big and there were a lot of people. at 7:00 p.m. we went back to school, where the parents of the hosting families had arranged a welcome barbecue party. It was a very nice moment of socialization. After the party we went to a pub. In Germany, the beer is very good, but the boys start to drink alcohol at the age of 14.

I visited castles, parks and shopping centers with Jan. In the evening we had dinner in the pub with hamburger and French fries. It was very good. Jan is a nice boy, I hope to see him again as soon as possible. I would give him hospitality in my house and I would let him visit Naples. I enjoyed my trip to Germany a lot and I hope to go back there one day.

Our names are Andrea, Gennaro and Domenico Cecere. We would like to tell you something about our

experiences and impressions of Germany.

In the morning we had breakfast at home and we ate Italian food and some German typical food like ham,

mortadella, salami and so on.

In Germany students go to school at about 7:45 a.m. and they use to go by bike, which is really great (in Naples it would be impossible because the town is built on a hill).

They have a break of half an hour that they spend all together. During this time students can smoke but not inside the school, only outside of it. They can also play

football, basketball, or just do nothing, relaxing themselves. Their school day ends at 1:00 p.m. and they

get back home to have lunch. They usually eat pasta, bread with cheese and cold cuts.

Page 17: Comenius EU-Roots - What Binds Us Together - Viernheim Meeting Report of a journey to the heart of Europe Alexander Von Humboltd Schule Viernheim, Germany

In the afternoon we went to the shopping center to do shopping and to have a snack. We didn’t like shops very much because they were very similar one another, while in Naples there are many

retail shops.

In the evening we used to meet at “Times cafè” (a small pub in the Centre of Viernheim) for a drink all together. At the end of the day, at about 11.00 p.m.,

we got back home.

In Germany school starts in the second week of August and ends at the end of June, so German students have got only six weeks of holiday in

summer, but they have many more holidays during the year than we Italians do. And they never go to school on Saturdays. We think this is one of the

many differences that there are between Italian and German school.

As for the music, we almost listen to the same songs because they are famous all around the

world. Just like in Italy, football is the most popular sport but in both countries other sports, like

basketball are practiced.
