It’s time for this cruelty to stop!

Three million layer hens are suffering incruel cages, right now, and millions of theireggs are sold by Countdown each year.

Public disapproval of caging hens has ledto a phase-out of standard battery cagesby 2022. Sadly, the suffering does not endthere, as yet another cruel cage system will

replace them - the colony battery cage.

Countdown is owned by Woolworths Australia who committed to stopselling cage eggs in Australia by 2018. We want Countdown to makethe same commitment and set an end date for the sale of all cage eggs.

In the new colony cages, each hen has aliving space barely larger than the size ofan A4 piece of paper.

They’re unable to walk far, fully stretchtheir wings, scratch properly or dust bathe.The mesh floor is an uncomfortable slopeto make it easier to collect the eggs.

Many hens have the end of their sensitivebeak trimmed in order to prevent aggressionand cannibalism in the crowded cages.

Countdown does not have to alignitself with this cruelty.
