Demographics Strengths

Having a diverse population allows for many celebrations and opportunities for our community to learn about other cultures. Our studentshave learned to become very accepting of each others differences and traditions. Not only do we encourage a sense of compassion but moreimportantly a sense of appreciation to have such an advantage at our finger tips.

Our low Economically Disadvantage population indicates that our students typically have more opportunities and exposure to many activitiesand interactions outside of school. Background knowledge is built upon not only in our schools but also at home throughout the calendaryear.

Demographics Needs

In reviewing the demographics of the Indian Springs campus, it is apparent that our school population continues to become morediverse. We have several families that have adopted from outside of the country which in turn has an effect on our diversity. Inreviewing data for our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade classes, our Asian and African American population nearly have 20 students which result intheir subgroup counting for STAAR. We continue to monitor the students that are enrolling to monitor our numbers for upcoming schoolyears. GT population as a low representation from our Eco Dis population. (< 2%)Nearly 21% of our population have a military affiliation

Student Achievement

Student Achievement Summary

Indian Springs opened as a brand new campus in August 2012. Student Achievement data is currently based on scores that were receivedfrom the campus that fed into Indian Springs. As is the situation for all campuses, many of our students moved into our area from otherdistricts, and we currently have a wide range of students from different schools.

The student achievement data we are currently using is based on our 6-week Common Assessments that are developed by the curriculumteams in our district.

Student Achievement Strengths

Our students want to succeed and are willing to put forth the effort it takes in order to succeed. Most of our students are reading at/abovegrade level. According to the data received from our district Common Assessments, over 50% of our students are exceeding standards in allCORE subject areas in grades 2-5.

Student Achievement Needs

Students have a difficult time thinking creatively and outside the box. Many seem to struggle with application, analysis and the higher levels ofthinking. Our students are not risk-takers, and they are accustomed to the standard (old school) model of teaching.

Family and Community Involvement Summary

Parents want to be involved. We have an active PTA who truly support the goals and initiatives of Indian Springs and Comal ISD. Over adozen parents expressed an interest in being a member of the SBDM. Several parents attended our first "Coffee with the Principal". Although, concerned about the increase in rigor of our curriculum, they understand change is necessary but are concerned it may be too muchtoo fast. Parents have asked for parent training and education in how they can support their child's education.

Family and Community Involvement Strengths

Indian Springs opened in August 2012. Since the opening, our community involvement has continued to increase. Our parents want to be apart of their child's education. Prior to the first day of school, we held "Meet the Teacher" day for all grade levels. 96% of our parents visitedtheir child's teacher and learned about some of our expectations for the school year. Parent orientation, which was held, a month laterresulted in 76% attendance. In all of the events we have had to date, our attendance has been well over our expectations.
