Water requirement Water requirement will be 9.0 m3/day (max) and the same will be purchased from local

sources/borewell.

2. INTRODUCTION OF THE PROJECT / BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

(i) Identification of project and project proponent. In case of

mining project, a copy of mining lease / letter of intent should be

given.

M/s Golden Rock Export possess mining lease for production of colour

granite over an extent of 1.20 Ha in Sy.No.01 of Addukonda Village,

Tekkali Mandal, Srikakulam District, Andhra Pradesh. (Details of the

mining lease are enclosed as Annexure -1).

As the lease area is less than 5 ha. the proposed project is being

submitted to DEIAA, as per MoEF&CC Notification No. S.O.141 (E)

Dated 15.01.2016 for obtaining Environmental Clearance. Letter is

enclosed as Annexure-2

The above proposal was submitted to SEIAA/SEAC Vide letter no.

GRP/2015/1 Dated 15.04.2015. The same was examined by

SEIAA/SEAC meeting held on 29.05.2015 where in it was observed

that the project was falling in the cluster and the committee

recommended the project proponent to approach MoEF&CC. Now the

new notification was issued by MoEF&CC notification vide letter no.

S.O. 2269(E) dated 01.07.2016 where in it was mentioned that the

leases which was granted on or after 09.09.2013 does not attracts the

cluster concept. The letter is enclosed as Annexure-3.

(ii) Brief Description of the Nature of the Project.

Project is Colour Granite mine located in an area of 1.20 Ha. It is

proposed to produce Colour granite of 3,392 m3/annum by means of

Open cast Semi-Mechanized mining method using drilling with jack

hammers, blasting, manual sizing/dressing and loading into trucks.

(iii) Need for the Project and its importance to the country.

Granites are most adaptable as interior veneers in sky scrapers. In

architecture, granites are mostly used for artistic veneers as they

enrich other aspects of buildings.

In India granite is used as kitchen platform, kitchen sink, name

plates, foundation/inaugural stones etc., granites ashtrays; flower

vases and other art pieces have both domestic and export markets.

Other users for dressed or cutter shaped forms of different sizes are

flagging stones in the form of flat slabs or rectangular or irregular

shapes oversteps, walk ways, parks and terraces, parking streets and

high ways or other traffic areas with rectangular blocks.

The Colour granite has got good colour, peculiar texture and polish

taking nature. So it has got good demand in domestic and

international market. Colour Granite is exported to Chennai, Jaipur,

Bangalore and also being marketed internationally. Marketing of

Granite internationally is different as the foreign buyers for both

dimensional blocks and finished products in terms of quality,

consistent colour, polish, price etc. So there will be increased demand

in local and international market for the Colour Granite in the years

to come.

(iv) Employment Generation (Direct and Indirect) Due to Project.

The employment potential of the project would be about 28 persons.

3. PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

(i) Type of Project (including interlinked and interdependent

project, if any)

It is proposed to maintain a production rate of 3,392 m3/annum of

Colour granite adopting drilling, manual sizing/dressing, loading and

transport.

(ii) Location (map showing general location, specific location and

project boundary & project site specific layout) with

coordinates.

Colour Granite Mine of M/s Golden Rock Export is located at

Addukonda Village, Tekkali Mandal, Srikakulam District, Andhra

Pradesh.

The Mine area is a part of the Survey of India Toposheet No. 74/B/2.

The site falls between A) 18°37'19.6"N, 84° 12' 43.7"E, B)

18°37'22.0"N, 84° 12' 42.8"E, C) 18°37'23.2"N, 84° 12' 49.8"E, D)

18°37'19.3"N, 84° 12' 46.3"E, E) 18°37'16.9"N, 84° 12' 44.6"E, F)

18°37'19.1"N, 84° 12' 42.3"E, North latitude and East Longitude with

an average altitude of 170 m above MSL.

Nearest railway line connecting Patapattanam – Palasa of South

Eastern Railway line is located at a distance of 2.4 km to S direction

from the site. Key map showing the location of various features

around the mining lease area is show in Fig – 1. Tekkali is major town

is located at a distance of 2.7 km in ESE.

The National Highway (NH-5) connecting Visakhapatnam –

Ichchapuram is located at a distance of about 2.5 km in SE, The

nearest railway station is located at Tekkali RS which 3.0 km in SE

direction.

There are no wild life sanctuaries, national parks, elephant/tiger

reserves within 10km radius of the study area.

(v) Project Description with Process details (a schematic

diagram/ Flow chart showing the project layout, components of

the project etc. should be given.

a) Type of Mining

Mining is proposed to be carried out by opencast semi-mechanized

method using Compressors, Jack Hammers, Wedges, crane, Excavator

and Tippers. Transportation of mineral will be done by trucks. The

loading of Colour Granite will be done by excavators.

b) Brief Description (Method of working)

Opencast semi mechanized method of mining will be carried out in

this Quarry. The mining will be followed in the form of linear cut

method. This involves loosing of the primary block from the mother

rock. Hence primary cutting will be done by line drilling method where

close spaced parallel holes along straight line will be made. Line

drilling method is used for separation of primary blocks.

Drill holes of 9 M depth will be drilled in a single row with spacing of

less than 0.3 M and burden of 1.6 M or more shall be maintained

uniformly. This arrangement will yield rock size of 3 M x 2 M cross

section. A bench height of 6.0 M will be tackled in two steps. Primary

block will be cut in to secondary blocks by jack hammer drilling and

wedge cutting and this block will be dislodged from in-situ position by

an excavator.

c) Drilling & Blasting

Line drilling method will be used for cutting the primary blocks which

involve drilling and blasting. The holes will be charged with chemical

compound for smooth blasting. Thus the block will separate from the

mother rock, which is pulled off from the face with cranes or shovel.

d) Removal / Excavation of O.B. and other Quarry Waste

During the Lease period of mine the total quantity of waste likely to be

generated 1,94,442 m3. It consists of granite blocks of various sizes,

shape and dimensions. Soil component will be minimal but will be

stacked separately from the mine waste.

The waste that will be generated during the mining will be dumped in

the zone separately reserved for dumping in the area. The dumps will

be designed in such that it will have slopes equal to the angle of

repose of such material. Garland drains will be provided around the

leading edge of the dump.

f) Separation of large primary Blocks from the mother rock by

pre- splitting (Primary)

For splitting the mass from mother rock, the line drilling and wedging

method will be in use with jack hammers and this waste will be

dumped at dumping yard using tipper.

The large boulders will be subjected to splitting into required sizes of

blocks by using jack hammers by drilling series of deep holes at right

angles at regular intervals, later by inserting feather and wedges in

these holes and hammering with sledge hammer will release the

blocks. The burner cutters will be deployed for shaping the boulders.

The boulders will be splitted to the required sizes with drilling and if

required by using chemical compound at the source only. The

boulders separated will be brought to the dressing.

Thus the block will get separated from the mother rock, and then the

block will be pulled off from the face with cranes or shovel.

g) Secondary Splitting

After separation from the mother rock, block will be properly checked

by washing with water to identify defects and cracks. Based on this

observation, the size is decided and the blocks are marked and

separated by drilling and wedging. The separated pieces will be

examined for defects and lines, then the block or blocks are marked in

clear area and holes are drilled along the line of marking, with the

help of feathers and wedges and the waste portions are separated

forming rectangular blocks.

h) Dressing

The rough blocks obtained after primary cut will be dressed for

obtaining good geometric shape of coloured granite. The secondary

rough blocks are squared into regular perfect rectangular sizes,

thereby avoiding uneven bulge or cavities and other defects. Jack

hammers with compressor, feather end wedges and sledgehammers

are the equipment generally used for dressing the block.

i) Extent of Mechanization

Semi-mechanized mining operation will be adopted. The following

mentioned mine machinery will be deployed.

j) Stock yard:

After completion of dressing, the blocks will be transported to stock

yard by cranes. The dressed blocks will be transported to the various

destinations by hired trucks.

(vi) Raw Material/ Consumables Required along with estimated

quantity, likely source, marketing area of final product, mode of

transport of raw material and finished product

Consumables and finished goods will be transported by means of road

transport only.

(vi) Resource optimization/ recycling and reuse envisaged in

project, if any, should be briefly outlined.

None

(vii) Availability of water, it’s source, Energy/power

requirement and source should be given.

Water:

The water environment will not get disturbed as the quarry is far off

from water courses.

Water requirement will be 9.0 m3/day and the same will be met from

bore well

Energy and Power Requirement and Source

Power requirement for illumination will be met from grid. One DG set

of 25 kVA will be provided at site.

(ix) Quantity of wastes to be generated (liquid and solid) and

scheme for their management / disposal.

during the lease period of mine.

4. SITE ANALYSIS

i) Connectivity

The region is characterized by hot and oppressive summer, mild

winter and seasonal rainfall. The summer is from March to May with a

maximum temperature is 45.30 c, the monsoon is from july to

September and the winter is from October to March where the

minimum temperature is 10.50c.

ii) Land Form, Land use and Land Ownership

Total mining lease area is Govt. land (1.20 ha).

The quarry lease area is part of hill steeply sloping due NW direction

with an average relief of 30 m. The area is devoid of any forest or tree

cover, it comprises shrubs only.

The waste that will be generated during the mining will be dumped in

dumps (Within the quarry lease area) designed in such a way that it

will have slopes equal to the angle of repose of such material. Drains

have to be provided and the dump terraced. 7.5 m width barrier zone

along periphery of the mine will be developed under greenbelt in a

phased manner.

iii) Topography along with maps

The quarry lease area is a small hill with big boulders. The area is

devoid of any forest or tree cover. It comprises shrubs only. There are

no prominent natural drainage channels in the area. In general the

area is plain studded with hillocks. Sometimes they may rise gently as

continuous hills, presenting a rugged topography.

The occupation of the people in the region is agriculture. No major

rivers are present in the area. The drainage is of dendritic pattern.

iv) Existing infrastructure

Nearest railway line connecting Patapatnam - Palasa of South Eastern

Railway line is 2.4 km to S.

v) Climatic data from Secondary Sources

The region has a semi – arid climate with a maximum and minimum

temperature varying from 45.3 – 10.5 degrees. The average rainfall is

about 968.8 mm and the monsoon is from June to September.

5. PLANNING BRIEF:

i) Population Projection:

Since there will not be any major influx of people from outside in this

region because of the project, there will hardly be any population

explosion. Most of the workers will be people from surrounding

villages only.

A total of 28 persons will be employed for mining operations.

ii) Land Use Planning:

The non-mineralized area within the mining lease area will be used as

temporary waste dump yard which will be rehandled for backfilling of

the mined-out area at conceptual stage.

Conceptually, mined out area will be backfilled with waste. 7.5 m

width barrier zone along periphery of the mine will be developed under

greenbelt in a phased manner.

iii) Assessment of Infrastructure Demand ( Physical & Social):

There will not be any major influx of people from outside in this region

because of the project and only local people from surrounding villages

will be employed. Further since the size of the project is small, no

adverse effect on physical and social infrastructure like roads,

electricity and water supplies etc., due to project is anticipated.

iv) Amenities /Facilities:

For site services an office, first aid and rest shed will be constructed in

the flat portion of the mine lease area.

6. PROPOSED INFRASTRUCTURE:

(i) Industrial

All necessary infrastructure as per the Mine Rules will be provided for

site services, an office, first aid and rest shed will be constructed in

non-mineralized zone.

(ii) Residential

No residential facilities are proposed.

(iii) Greenbelt

7.5 m barrier zone along the mine boundary will be developed under

greenbelt in a phased manner.

(iv) Social Infrastructure

The project is a small mining project. It is expected that the project

will provide employment to local in unskilled category.

(v) Connectivity

It has been planned to use the existing road network for accessing the

site and no new approaches have been planned. Haul roads with in

the mine will be developed.

(vi) Drinking Water Management (Source and Supply of Water)

Drinking water facility will be provided to workers.

(vii) Sewerage System

No wastewater generation except for domestic waste from toilet which

will be treated in septic tank followed by soak pit.

(viii) Solid Waste Management

Waste generation from the mine is estimated to be about 1,94,442 m3

during the lease period.

The non-mineralized area within the mining lease will be used as

temporary waste dump yard which will be rehandled for backfilling of

the mined-out area at conceptual stage.

(ix) Power Requirement & Supply / Source.

Power requirement for illumination will be met from grid. One DG set

of 25 kVA will be provided at site

(x) Rehabilitation and Resettlement (R & R) Plan

No R & R is involved

7. PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION SCHEDULE

The mining will be commenced after obtaining Environmental

clearance from SEIAA and Consent for Establishment from APPCB.

8. PROJECT COST ESTIMATES

Rs. 10.0 Lakhs will be spent as capital cost.
