Use this guide and worksheet to learn how to create your personal, authentic brand.

The three most important keys to effective branding are:

• Consistency: Your pattern of expression affects what people think about your business. The more consistent your look (visuals) and words (messaging) are, the more recognizable your brand will be.

• Simplicity: Don’t underestimate the power of simple branding. It’s easy for you to maintain and easy for your audience to understand.

• Authenticity: When creating your brand, you want it to represent who you are! If you try to create a personality or feeling in your brand that isn’t truly you, it will only confuse your customers.

How would you describe your style and personality?

When thinking about your style and personality, consider how you dress or how you decorate your home. Do you prefer to be expressive and colorful? Flowy and relaxed? Classic and traditional? What’s on your Pinterest board? How would your best friend describe your personality?

Choose three words to describe your authentic self:

What makes up your personal brand?

1. Color paletteFirst impressions of a brand are often made through colors. The colors you use incite feelings (for example, red feels bold and yellow feels happy). An established color palette also helps boost brand recognition. Choose one primary color and two complementary colors close to it on the color wheel, and then one contrasting color from the opposite side of the color wheel.

Example:

2. Fonts*Fonts are another powerful tool that can be used to support brand recognition. Fonts are available in a range of styles and formats, from fun and whimsical to clean and traditional. But no matter which fonts you use, legibility is vital. So, if you choose a script font, make sure it’s very easy to read and is in a high contrast color to the background. And avoid using two script fonts together.

Keep it simple and stick to two fonts: a primary and a secondary.

Tip! Editing apps such as Photofy offer design templates (or you can create your own) to establish a consistent look and feel for your brand. Register for your Scentsy + Photofy subscription at http://photofy.com/scentsy.

Tip! Scan Pinterest and Instagram for inspiration from your favorite social influencers to create a compelling look and feel for what you share. Just remember to keep it simple, consistent and true to you!

Example: Fun and trendy

Example: Bold and eye-catching

Example: Simple and approachable

3. Styling and propsA consistent style will solidify your business and encourage consumers to remember you. Brand recognition can be highly profitable, as consumers are much more likely to choose brands they recognize, connect with and enjoy.

4. LightingWhen creating your own photos and videos, proper lighting is crucial. Lighting can evoke feelings or moods — for example, low light pictures can suggest a darker style. Keep it simple with indirect, natural light from a window to capture your subject or product. Or use white poster boards to reflect light from the window or other light source into your scene.
