Welcome Delegates and Guests to the 106th
Colorado District Annual Conference!
“HOLINESS:
DELIGHT NOT DUTY!!!”
"Don’t even think about leaving Jerusalem until you
be endued with the power from on high” (Luke
24:49)
Jesus said to his disciples that ministry would be tough and to be effective and powerful
that they needed strength beyond themselves, “Don’t dare leave the safety of your home
and go out into a world that is oppositional to the gospel unless you are passionate and
empowered" Luke 24:49
The Church of The Nazarene has a proud heritage of promoting
scriptural holiness as more specifically stated by our founder Dr. Bresee
as being most effective when directed to the poor. Therein you have
our calling and our mission as well as the target group (at least
historically) that was the most effective message we could carry.
CONNECTIONAL not CONGREGATIONAL:
The church started as group of people who were consumed with the
thrilling and sensational message of the Spirit Filled life. They knew it
to be the secret for the believer to be impassioned for mission and
evangelism. They found when weak and anemic Christians came into a full experience of Spirit
Filling that they were empowered and impassioned for spreading the good news of Jesus!
The early churches in our tribe realized that they needed to be a part of the bigger mission in
order to affect regional and world change. So they pushed from the ground up for church starts
and taking new areas of mission fields.
A MOVEMENT from the GROUND UP:
The movement came from the grass roots to push upward (and not top
down) and forward the mission of evangelism and spirit filling. There
was a groundswell from the bottom up to create districts and start
colleges and have a world mission that would advance this message. The motor was not top
down bureaucracy that said; “We have to do this,” It was from pastors and laymen who went out
and started Nazarene churches and colleges. It appears that the pyramid has been turned upside
down and advancement is expected to be promoted from HQ and District mission. In a recent
New Start committee Dr. Kevin Compton took several of our pastors to a training. Near the end
of the session a seasoned pastor was weeping and said; “I don’t know why I’m not as
impassioned as my father about new starts. My father secured a rented hall and put a curtain up
down the center of the hall and he and his family lived in the rented hall and then started a
church on the other side.” HE asked himself a soul searching question: “Why am I not that
committed and sacrificial and impassioned about doing the same outcome, i.e., planting churches
but in today’s style and methodology?”
8
HOLINESS - the SPIRIT FILLED LIFE:
Our seminal reason for existence was to preach the message of
cleansing and empowerment through the teaching of a 2nd definite
work of the Spirit called the "sanctified life.” The emphasis of this
DAC is to re-emphasize the beauty and the delight, not the duty of our affirming doctrine. It is
our privilege as the CON to affirm in the larger discussion of the evangelical community that
there is an experience with God that is filling and enabling the Christian believer.
I recently asked the President of Wesleyan Holiness Consortium what was the best word that
works for postmoderns in communicating the work of the Holy Spirit in the lives of the
believers. Unhesitatingly he said; “HOLINESS” It’s a biblical word and it is used in the Bible
more times than any other singular word.
Our 12 Ordinands who bring to the climax of their ministry preparation are committing to this
assembly that wherever they go they will carry the torch of Holiness. A committed laymen who
loves the message of Spirit enablement can go and as they go carry the torch of Holiness. An
impassioned clergy who love to help people experience empowered living can go and carry the
torch of Holiness.
David M. Ralph Colorado D.S.

For the 5th yr. in a row our church has taken a Navajo
ministry trip to a church in Twin Pines Arizona. We
reached out in the Arvada Harvest Festival with a Kids
booth where they can come and sit and string together bead
necklaces, over 500 kids came thru our booth this
year. There is a great spirit week after week in our Sunday
gatherings. We have been blessed with a tremendous
number of people that have come thru our church that are
pursuing a call to ministry. We have been blessed to have
Pastor Randy Jones join us this year in an associate role and
this has been a very positive indicator to our people for our
future.

We recently led a W & W trip to Ecuador which saw
completion of a project at the Nazarene Seminary in
Quito. A mission trip to Belize is schedule in February.
Attendance is up and we are having continued growth. This
Easter was our largest attendance ever. We took in 15 new
members, 12 of which were POF’s. We are heading toward
a new family life center because we are bursting at the
seams in the youth and children departments. Children’s
quizzing is an excellent ministry that is occurring in our
church. There is excellent morale in the life of the church
and we are enjoying marvelous days at Aurora Tower.
Fifteen of our people are going on a cruise in the fall to re-
trace the journeys of Paul on his 2nd & 3rd missionary
journeys.

God is sustaining his church in Boulder. Even though we
have had some setbacks and losses with the September
floods, we have seen God's loving hand at work. We have
several new members, and some of our older members and
friends have experienced healing from life threatening
illnesses - giving God the glory. Within the church there
has been an outpouring of concern for Missions work, and
we celebrate a former CU college student, who we nurtured
for 4 years, now responding to a call to enter the full-time
Christian ministry.

We had marvelous growth this year in our worship and
church. Our school doubled in size for the 2nd year in a
row. We doubled the amount of ministries in the church,
one was a weekly service project in the park, cleaning &
barbequing for the people. Another service project of
interest was an old farmer who lost his joy for life. We
ministered to him and noticed an old shed out back. Our
church built him a chicken coup & gave him 12 laying
hens… now he wakes up grousing but collecting eggs daily
with a smile on his face…

The children’s ministry is growing and VBS was very well
attended. A total of 75 in that event led to 5 children accepting
Christ. We had Easter services and Christmas events that
seemed to be exceptional. The financial picture in the life of the
church is looking up with an approximate 15% increase. This is
reflected to the tune of being a 14% church for WEF!
Attendance is showing healthy trends upward and that has been
encouraging to the morale of the church. Pastor Rick led the
Navajo ministry this year for the 1st time taking over 20
bicycles to the Native American churches. The church is excited
about the future and doing some events such as a historical tent
revival every Wednesday night all summer in which they will
be serving hotdogs to the community and doing church service
outside on the grounds.

By God’s grace we raised $3,500 with a water carnival
fundraiser (including and auction to “dunk” the pastor) to
send one of our young adults to serve at a Christian school
in Thailand. Our Father’s Day “Bring your ATV/Jeep to
church Sunday” was our second-best attended service of the
year, with many joining the 4WD ride afterward. Our
sanctuary and parking lot were filled to capacity several
times, including Christmas Eve service, which overflowed
almost to the point of turning people away. Spiritually,
many hearts were changed by the Lord this year, including
some long-time “rascals.”

Denver Calvary Church of the Nazarene is a Korean church
for Korean residents in Denver. This church was established
in 2011 to help immigrants from Korea who want to
worship God with their mother tongue, and registered to the
Church of the Nazarene and joined in Colorado District.
Though this church is still non-organized church, we are
planning to organize this church according to the manual of
the Nazarene Church. We worship with around 30 adults
and around 20 youth and young adults together for now,
mainly with Korean language for the main service, and with
English for the Bible study for youth and young adults. Pray
for this church please to be a sound church to help the
people who are between the two cultures with the message
of God.

The church has had some real bonding moments in the
service. We deliver popcorn to the elementary school across
the street and have seen a few new attendees because of that
outreach ministry. The food pantry has had some very good
influence in the community. The Easter celebration was a
high day for us and our people were very excited about that
effective outreach day. We are continuing to look for new
ways to engage our community as well.

Attendance is trending upward. Easter was a superb day and
the highest day of the year. Last summer the church did
Oikos. The emphasis that our most important Oikos is our
children in our home has yielded fruit and also helped us to
see that others can be touched outside the home. Recently we
went through a series entitled “Not a fan: Truly Seeking to be
Followers of Christ.” Over the holiday season there were
several attraction events that were successful. This year has
been a great year of deepening and belief in the hope that we
are genuinely headed somewhere. The climate is excellent
and the indicators are trending upward in giving as well as
attendance. A Parenting & Discipleship emphasis is yielding
great fruit and promising great days ahead.

This year has been rough but blessed. Two families moved
away. A septic system issue provided an opportunity for
God to provide through the generosity of His people. In
three short weeks we raised nearly $1500, a payroll tax bill
was paid through the generosity of a person who has visited
the church three times. When our worship leader left our
people realized the importance of ministry involvement and
folks now volunteer as janitors and drivers to bring folks to
church. We were privileged to welcome our daughter-in-law
into the kingdom. Praise God from whom all blessings flow.

God has given us several new families to minister to this
year. A single mom and her son started coming to our small
group Bible study and has begun attending our morning
worship occasionally. We have had several others express
an interest in our church. We desire to be a force for Christ’s
love in this community.

In the last year at Abundant Hope we have settled into our
new location. We are in the same shopping center but have
added an additional 1200 square feet. This extra space is for
our growing children’s ministry, which has doubled since
the move. We continue to impact many families on a
spiritual, emotional and physical level through Nehemiah
Ministry. We continue to see lives changed through the
Gospel of Christ. Dedications, memberships, discipleship,
and of course potlucks inspire God’s people through life
style evangelism. These are great days to be a Nazarene.

This has been a most challenging year for Central Church.
We have attempted to reach out to the community with
some success. We threw a block party for the neighborhood
and had a great turn out! We had about 80 people show up
and even had a local (neighborhood) band provide live
music. We provided Christmas dinner and gifts for the
children of 11 neighborhood families that otherwise would
not have had anything. We had one person join by
profession of faith. Also, this year we refurbished our
sanctuary. We are looking forward to seeing what God is
going to do at Central Church in the future.

Our church experienced transition this year as Pastor Zell
Woodworth retired after 29 years of faithful service. We
were blessed by the leadership provided by Dr. Laurel
Matson and Dr. Kevin Compton during the interim. In
August, we welcomed our new pastor, Rev. Jason Daye, and
his family. These are exciting days at EastNaz as we have
experienced positive growth in our worship gatherings and
celebrated our largest Easter worship gathering in many
years. We are continuing to reach into our neighborhood
with ongoing ministries to our schools, an Upward soccer
league and other connecting events. We anticipate great
days ahead under the leadership of Pastor Jason.

The congregation here at Iglesia "Emanuel" is rather small
this year. Because of unemployment a few people have
moved. On Sundays the attendance average is 15-18 adults
and 5-6 children. We continue with Sunday School,
devotional service, Sunday evening service and prayer
meeting on Wednesday. Although it is a small group, there
is a loving spirit among the believers. They are tithing and
giving offerings faithfully. They are willing to continue
working for the up-building of God's kingdom. Presently we
are looking at ways to increase our number. In the meantime
we are worshiping and praising God for His faithfulness to
us.

The church went thru a transition this year: Pastor Gene Grate
retired, Pastor Tim Stearman served as the interim, and Pastor
Darwin Speicher came 3 1/2 months ago. A key emphasis has
been building into the life of the community. We held our first
outreach community event recently and hosted over 250 from
the community in an event that we call "Cinema under the
stars.” We had an excellent opportunity to love on the
immediate community surrounding the church.
We are seeing new people visit every week, and the future is
very bright for C/S 1st church. We are making excellent
strides toward the mortgage and the financial support of the
church and are delighted to see that attendance & finances are
trending upward.

The church has suffered some recent tragedies with Pastor
June having a stroke and the loss of a key family member. In
the midst of our trials we have pulled together as a
church. The preaching and ministering to one another and
keeping each other encouraged has served to attract new
families who see the warmth and encouraging family spirit
of the church.
Several people are hungering for getting sanctified that are
not there yet but desire to be spirit filled. When people
testify to this hunger it is very encouraging to see them
desire to get all of what God has for them. One lady desires
baptism now that she has become a recent believer and we
are going to have a baptism service in the near future.

Two large outreach events marked the year as highlights; the
fall festival with over 300 in attendance and 900 on Easter
Sunday. We held two separate baptisms totaling 20. At one
of these baptismal services there were 129 in attendance.
The testimonies and transformations brought about
unparalleled enthusiasm. We issued 6 new local preachers
licenses and over 35 POF’s this year. Our average
attendance was 104, an increase over previous years and a
great encouragement to our people. Last November we
changed our focus to begin training leaders. Even though
some resisted this discipleship move initially it has yielded
excellent results. Our new growth has been reflected in
giving which is trending upward by 8 to 10%.

Pastor – to be determined
We have had a wonderful year together. We have grown and
matured this year. We have purposely kept our church life
and strategy simple, believing our main reason for existence
is to make Christ-like disciples. We have not only
concentrated on reaching new people but also on doing a
more thorough job of formally discipling believers.
One of the many highlights of our year is we had the
privilege of helping a new church get started: Kingdom
Rock Church led by Rev. Ritchie and Bette Asuega. They
began to gather a core group in July 2013, had their first
service in September and we had our
commissioning/sending service for them in March 2014.

It’s been a good year, taking in 9 new members, 8 by
POF. We recently met an atheist who lost his mom & dad by
the time he was 24. He surrendered his life to Christ and is
totally on fire for God. The transformation God performs is
something he models remarkably. He accepted Christ on
Sunday morning and was baptized the following Wednesday.
We started a Saturday night service that has gone well and
new people are coming. We have 3 or 4 new families simply
due to starting a new service on Saturday.
Last fall after doing prayer walks around the community the
church sponsored a block party and 250 people attended. The
neighborhood people said “we need this so desperately!”

Trinity is such a great church! God has blessed us with new
young families along with excited other adults who love
serving God and His church. Our ministry to our
neighborhood continues to gain influence and effectiveness.
Our monthly food and clothing giveaway has moved from
serving 40 families to nearly 100 families. Our children and
student ministries have helped us gain trust with our Spanish
language neighbors. We are pursuing exciting opportunities
to connect more directly with these adult neighbors as well as
their children. Our Sunday Groups and Bible Study groups
are the core of how we disciple in an environment of
nurturing and supportive relationships. God continues to
shape us to be the church He needs in our community.

This year has been a year of progress. We are realizing new
financial health through renting our facility to a Spanish church as
well as new tithers. We’ve been showing steady growth, adding 12
to 15 new regular attendees to the congregation. This year we are
developing an identity through our focus on John 10:10, "I have
come that you may have life to the full." That is a passage that is
compelling us to communicate in authentic ways what our name
indicates we have to offer to our community. This year we have
been more in sync with our vision than ever. We started a brand
new Saturday night service that is offering another entry point for
visitors. The morale is higher than ever and headed in an excellent
direction. One highlight is a baptismal service of 16 new converts.

We had 20 plus conversions and added 6 or 7 new
families. The children’s ministry has grown and they have
become involved in the ministry as well. In the last 2 or 3
months we’ve seen an increase in our church
attendance. Sunday School is also showing a good increase
from the previous year. The church has a good spirit and
this has been one of the best years for the church to be
strengthening and becoming more solid. There is greater
development of friendships and loyalty to the church. Good
increase in all of these areas.

We are experiencing good days in Cortez, the best place in the
state to live. We "Book ended” the summer by cooking
hamburgers at the skateboard park for our community at the
beginning then on the back end doing a school blitz passing out
school supplies. These two community events have been
highlights for our church. Family community Thanksgiving
dinner was another successful outreach to our community. We
have been restructuring the church’s vision and
focus. Attendance is holding solid and steady. We know that
75 adherents call our church their home, it’s just difficult to get
all the butterflies to fly in unison. Our Lenten series of "Ashes
to Fire" was very affirming. Morale is solid and allegiances of
our people are solid and the church is ready to move forward.

God has called us to start new works in areas and places where most do not trod. We have
covered many miles; we have spent time in cow camps snuggled up around a camp fire or two; and we have preached the gospel in corrals,
barns, and fairgrounds with great results for the Kingdom. God established two new Cowboy churches that are wearing the Nazarene brand
this past year, and He has opened the door for us to join Him in other areas around the state. God
also used the folks at GVC to help build a stronger youth group and a contemporary work
that is reaching young families.

17 yrs. ago Pastor Dan performed a funeral on an 8 yr. old
boy and walked with this family thru the entire ordeal. One
yr. ago Dad and the oldest daughter showed up in church
and gave their hearts to Christ and joined the church this last
year. The harvest was reaped 17 yrs. later. It takes time to
see the fruit sometimes. This new laymen has been an
incredible blessing in the church. Financial trends are
showing indicators, with 6 new POF’s, all of which have
come because of tragedies and because of the church
assisting and walking with them thru the funerals. Thru
these Tragedies God has drawn them to himself.

Columbine Hills Church has really made a name for itself in
the community. We teamed up with Group Publishing,
housed youth mission trips, became the home of Stepping
Stone (a group that helps developmentally disabled adults),
hosted little league sports (Basketball, baseball, soccer,
volleyball), adult dodge ball, dance recitals, the new home
for Truth Christian Academy, A community Garden that
gave away 700lbs. of veggies, Scouting, a great food bank,
and more! After an insurance settlement, we have a new
roof, new AC units, 73 new windows and a new parking lot.
Yet, the best part of the year is lives changed. Linda, Joe,
Sarah, David, Teresa, just to name a few who found Christ
this year. Praise the Lord for His faithfulness.

As I began my 3rd year at Denver Family we began to take
the steps in re-focusing. We are a very dynamic, bilingual,
and multicultural church. Every week over 200 people are
ministered to in their native language with material that is
relevant to their culture. Our children and youth ministry are
growing and two new departments were established, ushers
and outreach. We can see great miracles such as Mr. Juan
who was diagnosed blind and has recovered most of his
sight to Javier who came to our church as the lowest in his
life and is now on his way to be baptized. We have had
highs and lows and lost some people, and one of them went
to be with The Lord. We are proud of Jorge & Ophelia who
will be ordained this year and will be planting a new church.

DFC has had an excellent year of uniting around
building the new structure on which we started
construction in just the last few weeks. We have
seen many conversions through the work of DFC
this last year, over 500 total. Some of this has been
through our local church and many through our
Downtown Denver 5280 mission project and also
our partnership with our multi-cultural work -
Denver Family church.

God is working in our church! We started with 80 members
and ended with 94 members, our initial average Sunday
attendance was 64 people and our final average attendance
was 115, 56 people prayed to receive Christ, 8 members were
baptized, and Wednesday night prayer services, Friday night
prayer vigils and Sunday evening English services were all
started! The Academia Mauricio Saravia continues to grow
and bring us new families and we are adding a couple of new
community events via Jesus of Nazareth Compassion
Ministries. Our church is alive, united, and excited about
God’s presence.

These last 12 months have been transitional. We were
evicted from a building that we used for eight years, and this
was our first full year as a semi-portable church. People
don't like change! Truth is we lost about 150 people during
this transition. We now do three (3) services out of Stargate
School and have purchased the old Cottonwood Lakes
Church building for office space.
Although this has proven to be a testing year, we have seen
God move in GREAT ways. We fed 5,000 people during
Thanksgiving, over 100 have accepted Jesus Christ, and we
continue to grow with new people. Never before has the
grace of God and the Spirit of God been so real.
Praise God for His grace and faithfulness. There are some
exciting things happening. May Jesus Christ be glorified!

The church at Durango has gone through several
changes in this last year. Pastor Paul Ward
accepted a new assignment in New Mexico and so
the church has experienced a pastoral
change. Pastor Michael Couch has returned to be
the interim and is firming up the church and their

It’s been a major year of transition. The first part of the year
there was a separation from "Gathering Stones” and in
September those who remained carried on and adopted a
new name and became Falcon Cornerstone. Pastor Ron
accepted the pastorate in January. It’s been a bit of a
recovery year from this transition. We’ve been very
encouraged by those who solidly remained and very little
further attrition indicates that the core is committed to
ministering to Falcon. We have seen some new families
come and join us and 2 in particular that have been large
families have been a great addition. We’re committed to
pressing forward with a new vision to impact our
community.

We had a great board retreat last year in which we felt God
gave us a vision to remodel the church. As the vision
unfolded the money came in to remodel the sanctuary and
build a new foyer. We are now entering into phase II to
remodel other pieces of the project such as a courtyard and
donations have been given the local cement plant for the
needed concrete. We’ve seen a corresponding improvement
and excitement in the church as they’ve worked together to
accomplish these projects. Some new families have joined
and we are excited to bring them into membership. We plan
on an additional retreat to lay plans for the next phases.

In sports, when a team doesn’t have a very good year
according to the record books, but were investing in
some new players and restructuring leadership they call
it a “rebuilding year.” That is precisely what the past
year was for us. We focused on making sure we have a
solid foundation and the right leaders in place to prepare
for the next season of growth for our church. Every
rebuilding year has ups and downs, and in the middle of
it all God is good!

Showing great growth in AM worship attendance. The church
saw some exciting outreach this last year: caravan, Easter
marketplace, fall fun fest, Christmas, and “My Hope” with
Billy Graham. The church has not remembered a time when
some of these special occasions were so well attended.
We performed 8 baptisms and had one new family who
brought in all kinds of people and they sealed a marriage that
was an exciting spiritual choice. Financially God has blessed
and we have been able to do new renovations to the building.
Hosted and excellent event; "Dangerous Man Day” that was
held at Morgan church where men were trained to be the
Fathers, witness, and churchmen that God wants them to be.

This has been a good year in Golden! God has been working in and through our church to show Himself to the community around us. It’s been our privilege to be the “hands and feet of Christ”, our mission statement for the past year. In seeking ways to be that to our world, God has provided many opportunities. This includes the Golden Backpack Program, an organization that sends food home in kids’ backpacks so they will have meals over the weekend. This important outreach needed a facility in which to operate, and we offered them our church. It has been a wonderful partnership and yet another way to show our community that we care. We continue to seek and discern where God is leading us and look forward to what He has in store!

The challenge of an older congregation is that those saints
who have invested their lives for Church and Kingdom
come to the point where God calls them Home. We have
seen the “Sending Home” of almost a dozen saints every
year. That can wear on a congregation but one thing God
knows better than us is that He is in control and will raise up
new leaders, plus enable new families to respond to our
invitation and warm welcome. One of the greatest praises
this year is in the Lord’s leading Jeremy Stover to become
our Worship Ministry Leader. The result of his heart for the
Lord, his great talent and his ability to lead our congregation
to Worship has resulted in a spirit of Revival among the
entire Church.

Greeley CO 80634 When disaster struck our neighboring town of Evans with a
500 year flood. Our church responded with compassion
moments after the rain stopped. We had children unloading
crisis kits that were dropped off at our church and we were
able to place them in several Northern Colorado Nazarene
churches. We as a church challenged our members to
personally handout the kits, many took boxes and passed
them out to those in need. We joined forces with a couple of
other churches and we adopted a street that had been
devastated by the flood waters. We stood in mud with these
neighbors and we were able to see sheetrock hung on their
walls. Our church also provided Christmas for 12 of those
families, it was a blessing to be the hands and feet of Christ.

This has been a year of transition for Greeley First Church.
With the New Year came the arrival of a new pastor and
new associate pastor. We rejoice in the fresh hope that
always comes with new leadership and new beginnings.
God has always been, and still is, in the business of making
all things new. We look forward with excited anticipation to
see what new things God is going to do among us in the
coming year.

We had a good year. Good morale and good spirit in
the life of the church. We had a combination baptismal
and membership class and it was the best thing that
we've ever done. We've seen some softening toward
the sanctified life in some of our people and they have
shown great strides in their spiritual progress. We've
had some excellent conversions in our church. One girl
in our youth meeting gave her heart to Christ and
showed incredible spiritual turnaround. At one of our
youth meetings several gave testimonies and another
youth gave his heart to Christ. Breakfast with the youth
and it has been a great chance to develop relationships
and bring transformation.

Even though it has been a relatively short time (January 2014)
since we arrived our hearts are overjoyed with the outpouring
of love. We feel like we are home. We celebrate all that God
is doing in us and through us as a church. We are thankful for
the privilege of a mortgage burning celebration in April
giving us the joy of being debt-free, baptisms, several new
members, and the joy of those who are celebrating new life in
Christ. As we celebrate all that God has done, we recognize
all that God is doing, and therefore, we anticipate all that God
is going to do through us as we cooperate with God. It is my
privilege to be the pastor of such wonderful people. Looking
forward to continued good days ahead!

The church did the Nehemiah emphasis; “Better together
through prayer & the Word” which ended at Thanksgiving time
with the Legacy quartet and many answers to prayer from
healing to salvations. At the conclusion of that emphasis one
person came back to the Lord and has been on fire. Pastor Vince
Gappa’s vision for the year & preaching was on “Continuing to
Move Mountains” and God moved many mountains during that
time. During Holy Week we hosted the Passion Play of Denver
and over 2300 came thru the church. It was full every night over
the 7 nights and no telling how many people made decisions for
Christ. This was a very unifying event for the life of the church.

First Church of the Nazarene in Las Animas is continuing
on in the footsteps of Jesus. In the past year we have had
individuals return to church, while others have begun to take
ownership of the property and the ministry. Three people
have accepted Jesus Christ in their heart and the presence of
the Holy Spirit is evident in our services. Finances have
improved while the mortgage continues to decrease. All this
in an economically depressed area of Colorado. Praise the
Lord!

We had 5 full time small groups and are in the progress of
starting 3 more. The pastor coaches the leaders of these groups
as to the overall purpose of reaching our neighbors with the
gospel. We’ve had several hundred spiritual contacts with our
non-Christian neighbors this past year. We’ve enjoyed some
miraculous results. One example of many is one couple who
were non-Christian and our small group canceled their group
meeting to help them move so that they could "be the church
not just go to church." They were so overwhelmed that they
decided to join the group for further discipleship and gave their
lives to Christ which has turned their lives upside down and
now they & their kids are learning the Scriptures.

The church went thru pastoral transition this last year. The
church called Pastor Sid & Julie Sever to be their pastor.
The people did an excellent job of picking up the tasks of
the church during the pastoral vacuum. It’s a prayerful
congregation and they put an increased emphasis on prayer
during this time of vacancy. They also are a very generous
congregation and that shows especially as a very mission
minded church not only in the world but also in their own
community.

Things are going well, we have had great attendance growth.
The church voted to purchase 11 acres of property close to
the intersection of I-25 and highway 34 near Boyd Lake, to
be followed by selling the current facility. We believe this
will be strategic to the future of our church. It’s been fun to
experience many new young families and new babies, which
has contributed to the life of our church. The morale is high
and the future is bright.

We had 8 baptisms, which was a highlight. Our Easter was
excellent with over 200 in attendance with many unchurched that
came and very successful follow up dinner from those new Easter
attendees. Our youth leaders have been praying for workers and
now have about 6 leaders that went to a youth conference in
Houston. Seven of our worship team are attending Bethel worship
school to improve their worship and are taking 2 weeks off of
work at a cost of $2000 each to be better worship leaders. Five
have recently committed their life to Christ and one of them was
delivered from drugs, baptized this year, and there has been a huge
difference brought about thru "one on one" discipleship.

The Lord blessed the generous people of Valley Church of
the Nazarene this year and allowed the congregation to give
over $138,000 to others. God is our source and He continues
to bless. Revival fires are burning and one building was
completely filled with smoke. Insurance covered the
damages and the building is better than new.

Last June we participated in a regional music festival called
Night Vision. Six members of our congregation, led by Rev.
Rick Williams, were trained and participated in evangelism
sharing during the festival. As a result 65 people made first
time professions of faith and 21 were baptized. Several of our
people were encouraged to share their faith and were equipped
to do so.
In March we hosted a Faith in Action Sunday. We invited all
of the non-profit ministries in town to come and present their
ministries to our church. Over twenty community no-profit
groups responded and we had one of our largest worship
attendances of the year. Our congregational is participating in
“One Congregation One Family”, an initiative that connects
congregations with homeless or near homeless families. We
look forward to adopting our first family this year.

Through much prayer and God’s grace we have paid all our
budgets in full. Our food pantry has touched 2,500 families.
Concerts, special services, and small groups continue to be
avenues of outreach and fellowship. We have generously
given to others in missions and locally with a staff of over
30 people from our church and community. People have
helped with gas, utilities, and housing assistance. Some of
these people have been integrated into our church. We thank
God for each conversation, each answered prayer, and each
chance to serve Him in Palisade these past 27 years.

Alzheimers patients in the Nursing Home.
4. After being behind 4 to 5 months on some financial obligations,
the Lord supplied the financial needs of the church so that all local

Epic Church experienced what many new church starts go.
Although we had a number of the "early-adopters" remain with
Epic, we had a few people leave Epic sensing that their role
was complete. It left a gap in our church, but what we believed
to be a set-back; He saw it - and used it - as an opportunity.
The Hayne family was able to take a much needed rest of 6
weeks. Our spiritual batteries were recharged as well as our
bodies. In our absence, the leadership at Epic had a great
opportunity to stretch their wings, extend their leadership, and
as a team pastor a church. Re-dedication to the call of ministry
and the call to Parker, Colorado became solidified in the past
year. As a result, more lay people are involved in ministry than
ever before, more families are tithing, more creative ideas are
emerging about reaching Parker for Christ, and more leaders
are in training.

We have spent the last year searching for God’s vision for
our church and what we must do to have a great impact on
Pueblo. This is our parish and we have been feeling a
greater responsibility on our hearts and minds for the lost in
our community. God has been faithful in showing us what
we must do, through Him to widen His influence and
presence in our community. This next year will be the best
year ever for the church of the Nazarene in Colorado. God
wants to do something great and we are His willing workers
in the vision He has for us. If He is for us who can be
against us? We must be about our father’s business.

We are experiencing a "new day" at Pueblo First Church.
We have lead 31 people to a growing relationship with Jesus
Christ this past year and have received some of those newly
saved folks (14) into official church membership by POF.
We baptized 12 folks this year and we're celebrating the
modest numerical growth of His Church in Pueblo. Another
highlight this year was hiring our new youth pastor and
spouse. They have invited and welcomed folks from within
the congregation to help lead our youth as sponsors and the
youth group has more than doubled in number. We are
excited to see what God has in store for us this coming year
as we continue to reach our community and world with the
love of Jesus.

FY 2013-2014 was a year of growth and service for FVC. We
grew numerically, but more importantly, spiritually. We
completed a 31-week sermon series entitled, The Story,
covering Genesis to Revelation. Coupled with small groups, we
saw the biblical literacy of the church grow to record numbers.
As a church, we partnered with the Parent and Teacher
Organization of the school we rent to host numerous events
throughout the year to serve the community. We cannot
emphasize enough the importance of positive relationships with
our neighbors; serving them more this next year is our number
one priority. Going forward, our church is 100% ready to
espouse Christ’s words in John 13: “Love one another. As I
have loved you, so you must love one another.”

Restarted the church that was closed this last year. We have
had a high of 55 and are averaging about 40 regularly.
We've won a lot of people to Christ, 15 total this year.
We've gone to the apartment complexes and taken popsicles
to the kids. And someone has made wooden cars that say
"Jesus loves you" and gave those to the kids. The most
exciting thing is a family that has come to the church and he
was an MMA fighter that came to Christ. The people are
going like crazy to help build the church. A van would help
us to win kids every week. We are reaching young kids and
families every week.

We had an excellent day of "picnic in the park" where we
invite the entire community. We set up a worship team & free
barbeque in the gazebo. We are hitting 2500 homes with a
marketing piece for our VBS this yr. We had a well-attended
spiritual formation week with evangelist Chuck
LaCombe. The attendance is growing, due to some excellent
marketing pieces that have produced some great fruit for our
church. Our attendance was about 18 when we first came.
We’ve had an excellent retention of new people and are
averaging around 59 now with a high of 81. A recent men’s
retreat at Golden Bell was superb in developing our new
men. Some of these are enjoying life transformations and
connections with the church and other people and are now
inviting others.

It’s amazing to see how God can do for us what we
could not do for ourselves and that has been the
most thrilling thing to see at Sterling this
year. Many life decisions in prayer were made this
year by our people. Families experienced some
phenomenal growth in vitality and togetherness.
Our Wednesday evening meal and Christian hour
has seen new depths in the life of our church.

(E-mail: [email protected]; 720-341-1490) We have had an amazing year at Hope Hacienda! Obviously the major
highlight is that we were officially organized as a Nazarene church in
January where we celebrated in a significant way. The organization has
opened with a total of 44 Charter Members and many friends and family.
We are eternally grateful to ThornCreek for the vision and insight to start
a church in South Thornton three and a half years ago. During this last
year we have been privileged to provide a continued impact to the
community by painting a house of someone in need; by proving several
boxes of food at Thanksgiving in ministry to known needs by people in
the congregation. Hope Hacienda is committed to the local church
mission by providing gifts at Christmas to needy families and even to
feeding the homeless in downtown Denver. While we do not yet leave a
significant footprint, the lasting impact to those who have been touched is
immeasurable, and with much more to do.

This has been a year where we have seen the marvelous
hand of God being still alive, still active, and still desirous
of drawing His people back into the proper restored
relationship with Him. We have been blessed to see new
families begin attending our church and new people step up
to fill spots of service and ministry. We were honored to
have three different churches come to work alongside of us
with Work and Witness teams this last summer, helping us
do some of the work which greatly needed. Though our
numbers may have declined this year, we have seen a
growth in worship and praise in our church.

A year of challenges, situations, and obstacles in which only
the hand of God could have guided us. Things are turning
around and the light at the end of the tunnel is showing we
are moving forward with new people and the faithful ones
who continue to serve. Received 7 new members and 4
brand new people as members. We had the privilege of
restarting our S.S. & Discipleship program. With joy in our
hearts we see new people getting involved and wonderful
ministries such as our present worship team. An example is
our worship leader Jorge Toledo who used to sit in the very
back. During the past few months he was sanctified,
baptized and now is the main leader of our worship team.
He began taking classes pursuing his district license.

Over this past year we have seen a lot of growth in family related
areas such as marriages that have been healed and coming back
together and people who are living together sensing conviction
and then getting married. We’ve seen several Kids and
teenagers committing their lives to Christ. Men's and women's
ministries are thriving and calling people to a deeper commitment
to be better parents. God has been calling us to meet family
needs, grow disciples, and watch that love spread from inward to
outward. We have also seen many families with no church
background showing up and learning about God’s love and grace
and committing their lives to Him and watching them integrate
into the church has been a great joy!

We entered into our final year of our building campaign and
project. We have determined to open the doors to our
Family Life Center on Easter Sunday 2015. When we do
this we will have paid for the building in full. As of today
we have raised over $700,000 and when it is all said and
done we will have raised over $850,000 to pay it all off. We
had over 40 individuals accept Christ or rededicate their
lives to Him over this past year and our weekly attendance is
strong. We are enjoying amazing momentum these days.

Pastor— Noel Sullivan (1959-2014, in memory)
After 10 months of illness Pastor Noel Sullivan, our pastor
of 18 yrs., went to be with the Lord. He loved to preach and
did so up to his last month of life. The memorial service was
a celebration as Pastor Scott Carranza preached positively of
life & faith. We dearly loved our pastor and the church was
glad to walk with him & Jenny in his final days. During this
time the church rallied and did the work of the church. We
have grown and shown good strength, having regular
Sundays as high as 100 and averaging 85. The finances
have grown, new people have come, and the church is
considering a building program. Pastor Terry Douglas has
done a superb job of interim work and we are excited about
our calling of Pastor Don Smith to be our next pastor.

District Advisory Board Report
The Advisory Board met six times this year. In the first meeting we elected a district
secretary and a district treasurer. In the following meetings we conducted required business for
the district including the following: review of monthly financial reports, oversight of the audit,
oversight of the operations of Golden Bell Camp and Conference Center, approval of property
changes, sale and purchase of properties, approval of loans.
We received regular updates from the District Superintendent including pastoral and
church reviews, pastoral assignments for churches under 35 members, and bright spots across the
district. We authorized the District Superintendent to approve requests for Emergency Medical
Assistance as they are presented to him.
We recommended renewal of minister’s licenses for senior pastors holding district
licenses, and oversaw ministerial credential items as recommended by the Ministry Board.
These included approving requests for retirement status and special service/interdenominational
status, and requests for return of credentials and removal of divorce as a barrier to district
licensing. The receiving and sending of clergy transfers is also under the oversight of our board.
Specific church changes approved by the Advisory Board this year were the following:
One church name change: Gathering Stones Falcon to Falcon Cornerstone Community.
Other changes approved by the Board: Kiowa and Manzanola churches were disorganized;
Thornton Hope Hacienda was organized.
We approved housing allowances and expense reimbursements for the District
Superintendent, the District Administrator, and the Executive Director of Golden Bell, and made
the recommendation of the 2014-2015 district budget to the finance committee.
Respectfully submitted,
DAVID M. RALPH, chairman RUBEN VILLARREAL, secretary

2014 Finance Committee Report
We believe in responsible Christian stewardship through the payment of
evangelism funds. Every dollar invested in ministry funds by the local church declares
loyalty and love to the mission and message of God's kingdom here on earth. Every
church should plan carefully to meet this scriptural responsibility to God and His church
in reaching lost, unevangelized men and women through the district and denominational
funds. The love of Christ, moving and motivating us within and without, leaves no room
for unwarranted failure in this area of stewardship.
Part I. Funding the Mission
District Ministries Fund (which includes Church Development / New Start, SDMI,
Ethnic, NMI and NYI), World Evangelism Fund, Pensions and Benefits Fund and
Education Fund
We recommend:
1. That the District Ministries Fund be set at 3% of the Adjusted Income under line
30 minus lines 31 and 32 of the Annual Pastor’s Report.
2. That the World Evangelism Fund for the Colorado District be set at 5½% of the
Adjusted Income under line 30 minus lines 31 and 32 of the Annual Pastor’s
Report.
3. That the Pensions and Benefits Fund be set at 2¼% of the Adjusted Income under
line 30 minus lines 31 and 32 of the Annual Pastor’s Report.
4. That the Educational Fund for Northwest Nazarene University be set at 2¼ %
of the Adjusted Income under line 30 minus lines 31 and 32 of the Annual Pastor’s
Report.
5. That our people be encouraged in the stewardship of possessions as related to
wills, annuities, and life loans on behalf of the church.
6. That the above ministry funds be paid monthly based on the income for the
previous month with the first payment due June 2013.
7. That each local church have paid or send or bring the estimated first monthly
payment of the District Ministries Fund to the District Annual Conference.
Part II. To the Churches
The Finance Committee has endeavored to apportion the ministry funds in the most fair and equitable
manner possible in the light of the evangelism fund base adopted by the General Board.
We recommend:
1. That the allocation of missional funds be the percentages for the World Evangelism Fund,
Educational Fund, and Pensions and Benefits Fund set by the General Board.
2. That the District assumes responsibility for the encouragement of the full payment of all
missional funds by the local churches.
3. That the Advisory Board provides a prospective budget to the Finance Committee at its annual
meeting.
98
Part III. Insurance
We recommend:
1. That life insurance be covered for all Senior Pastors of local churches, District
Superintendent, District Administrative Assistant, and Executive Director of Golden Bell.
2. That each local church pay for disability insurance for their pastor.
3. In the event of a claim, that the District disburse disability coverage matching the general
church’s Pensions and Benefits amount on a case by case basis.
4. That each local church offer to their pastor and staff the option of setting up a nontaxable
account by salary reduction to pay insurance co-payments and deductibles and that each
local board increase the senior pastor’s salary to cover that reduction.
Part IV. Operating Policies
That each local church include in its policies the following:
1. The local church treasurer will provide an annual financial report to the board and
congregation to include all incoming and outgoing funds.
2. The church board reviews its handling of funds assuring that one person does not handle
both incoming and outgoing monies.
3. The church board determines/reviews annually access to confidential information on
individual contributions and on church financial reporting.
4. The church board reviews accessibility to church computers, especially those connected to
the internet.
5. The church board secures and safely electronically stores for an indefinite time all
insurance policies, all legal documents that are not stored elsewhere, and all background
material.
6. The church board evaluates and reports to the district the church’s liability and sexual
misconduct coverage of all workers.
7. The church board submits at the first board meeting in the fiscal year approval of housing
allowances for all paid staff, part-time or full-time, and included in that action paid ministry
shall be allowed to reduce reportable income by any and all unreimbursed business
expenses under current IRS accountable reimbursement guidelines. (*This should be
reviewed/acted upon when any staff changes occur during the fiscal year.)
Part V. District Staff
We recommend:
1. That payment in full for health insurance be made for the District Superintendent and District
Administrative Assistant immediate families; that key man insurance be carried on the District
Superintendent and Golden Bell Executive Director.
2. That the District Superintendent and District Administrative Assistant be reimbursed for their
reasonable professional business expenses through an accountable reimbursement plan.
3. That the District Superintendent and District Administrative Assistant be reimbursed travel
for the district at the current IRS approved mileage rate or other IRS allowable agreed upon
financial arrangements.
4. That the district consider paying a portion of medical reimbursements for the District
Superintendent and District Administrators immediate families.
99
Part VI. Evangelists' Support
We recommend that local churches pay evangelists at the ratio of a minimum of 2 1/2 times the
pastor's weekly compensation package and that each church give the evangelist a Christmas gift.
Part VII. Ministerial Support and Benevolence
We recommend:
1. That the financial support of pastors be given careful study and periodic review by the church
board, giving consideration following the Department of Labor's index, being reviewed twice
a year. An automatic cost-of-living adjustment should be considered in the fall of each year.
In the spring there should be a review on the basis of merit and church progress.
2. That the pastoral remuneration comprise:
a. Fair and generous salary including the full amount of Social Security (based on
pastor's salary, plus housing allowance and/or parsonage rental values),
b. Parsonage and/or housing allowance,
c. Utilities and parsonage expense,
d. Family health and life insurance premiums, insurance co-payments and/or deductibles
(see III.1 above),
e. Church related vehicle usage reimbursement or allowance,
f. Annuity allowance and/or other supplemental retirement programs,
g. Continuing Ministerial Education allowance, and,
h. Miscellaneous professional reimbursements for such things as books, entertainment,
conventions, and conferences.
3. That pastors and all full-time ministerial staff members be given a minimum of two weeks
paid vacation annually. We further recommend that all the above who have accumulated from
5 through 10 years of salaried ministry be granted three weeks paid vacation and that those
who have served 11 years or more be granted four weeks paid vacation. Accumulated years
of salaried ministry shall include service in the Church of the Nazarene prior to that
accumulated at the present assignment of the minister. This vacation time should be exclusive
of time spent at district and general church meetings. The pastor is advised to use discretion
and wisdom in the planning of vacation in order to best work with the church’s needs and
calendar.
4. That out of a deep concern for our pastors to avoid burnout and stress and to keep a clear
continuing vision for their church and ministry:
That churches and the district consider giving a sabbatical or continuing professional
development leave for their pastor as early as during their seventh year of ministry. Special
care should be deliberated to include accumulated years of salaried ministry comprising
service years in the Church of the Nazarene prior to the accrued years in their current
local church assignment. This leave should take into consideration, as finances allow, as
being with pay and benefits, and could be from 4 - 12 weeks in length and would be in
addition to regular vacation time with their family. This time would be used for rest,
renewal, and study. This will aid pastors in finding new creative ways to help the church
accomplish its ministry vision. A rested and refreshed pastor will help build even stronger
100
relationships with their church. We strongly recommend that each church consider
implementing a policy.
5. That the district superintendent provides a communication channel to the local church board
concerning ways that they can properly care for their pastor and family, in light of present
high costs of living.
6. That the local church pay expenses of the pastor’s spouse when their professional
responsibilities require out of town trips.
7. That this entire report, with Part VII highlighted, be mailed to the Board Secretary of each
church by the end of September.
Part VIII Support of District Sponsored Ministries
That local churches be encouraged to support through financial offerings and gifts, prayer and
encouragement to Colorado Nazarene Compassion Ministries (Jesus of Nazareth, NDR, etc.), New
Start / Church Development Ministries, and the Golden Bell Camp and Conference Center.

In the past all areas of the state were represented by one ministerial and one lay representative.
Because this created a very large committee it was suggested that this committee be reduced to
representation by those who regularly oversee the district finances, the District Advisory Board
and District Auxiliary leaders as listed above.
Further discussion included the request for more involvement by the auxiliary leaders in the
budget discussions in February and March.
110
Motion made to have the Auxiliary leaders meet with the District Advisory Board Finance advisory committee in February for initial budget discussion and then again with the Advisory Board in the March budget meeting. Motion included that the DS and Advisory Board should make the final decision regarding the representation on the District Finance Committee–Terry Nelson, Seconded-Linda Geist, Approved – All
Addendum: The District Advisory Board felt there needed to be some area representation on the
District Finance Committee, so the following were approved for the ballot by DS Ralph:

Discussion was that the Golden Bell board is too large and the best use of this board is to include
people who are passionate about the camp and also have knowledge/expertise in areas that would
benefit the camp. Therefore the board will be reduced each year by completion of the elected
term and appointments will be made by the chairman for additional members.

Golden Bell Camp and Conference Center Director’s Report
Greetings from Golden Bell, “A Place Set Apart where God changes lives”. God Continues to
use Golden Bell to touch people’s lives every day as they encounter Him through His creation
and by getting away from all the busyness of everyday life. There is something very unique and
special in getting away from the phone, TV, work, I-pads and pods, negative people, and the
hustle and stress of everyday life in our fast paced and crammed full world we live in. And that’s
just our kid’s lives! Yes, our kids are facing many of the same pressures of busy lives as we
adults do, plus they have to wade through all the ups and downs of growing up in a world that is
growing away from Christian values. Golden Bell stands in that gap and provides a place for
children, teens, college students, and adults to come away and connect with God in a life-
changing experience.
God is AWESOME, isn’t He? Our theme this summer is “Pathways: Life’s Choices” based on
Proverbs 3: 5-6. We have 28 College Students who have listened to God’s call to invest in kids’
lives this summer along with 16 senior-adult volunteers and all our full-time and part-time staff.
All of these people have huge servant hearts and have listened to God’s call to serve Him this
summer at Golden Bell. Please pray for all our staff this summer as they are used of God
impacting every camper and guest with the love of Christ.
I am happy to report that through God’s grace and the giving of His people, we have finished the
fiscal year in the black again.
We have continued to be blessed greatly by grants to make significant improvements to our
facilities. This year we have installed new water lines to serve the New Chapel as well as to
connect our two water systems together. We will have new Electric service coming in
underground to supply power to the New Chapel and upgrade power throughout the main camp
area. We are finishing up new concrete Tipi platforms with all new weather-tight structure and
built-in bunks. We are also working this summer on building a higher platform and new wall on
our climbing tower so that we will be able to use it for rappelling. We thank the Lord for these
grants as these projects would not be possible otherwise.
The BIG News of the year is we are moving ahead with the construction of the Dan Walker
Memorial Chapel!!! We are officially “under construction”! It is exciting to see the project
finally moving forward after a long time of dreaming, planning, engineering, Fund-raising, and
dealing with Government and neighbors. Speaking of Fund-raising, another grant was given to
us as a Matching Grant of $200,000 to help us finish funding the project, BUT, this only gets
matched if we can all collectively come up with the other $200,000 needed. We praise our
awesome Lord for this gift and I ask each of you to prayerfully consider what you, your family,
and even your business might be able to do towards this end. We only have until September 30
to match this amount and we need everyone’s support to make this very important project
happen.
118
It has been an honor and privilege to serve as Executive Director for the past 18 years of this
exciting and life-changing ministry.
God is doing amazing things at Golden Bell. Come, get involved. It’s your Camp after all.
Respectfully submitted,
Doug Pearson

Colorado Nazarene Missions International
2013 -2014
Dear Dr. Graves, Rev. Ralph, Pastors, Local NMI Presidents, Delegates and Friends of NMI:
It is my privilege to bring you my third report from the Colorado District Nazarene Missions
International (NMI). As I reflect on the District Assembly Conference theme of “Incarnational
Holiness”, it is a stark reality that the gift of living a holy life and the beauty of Christ’s indwelling is
what drives all of us to serve others through missions. Incarnational Holiness in its very nature is
giving, serving and loving others in our homes, communities, our state, and around the world. In this
report I’d like to share some of my personal journey over the past year as well as some of what
Colorado Nazarenes have done that represents Christ’s love to our world.
In June of 2013 it was such an honor and joy for me to attend Nazarene General NMI Convention in
Indianapolis. Thank you so much for providing the opportunity for me and our other 12 delegates to
attend. What a blessing to experience the true mission of the Church of the Nazarene from all over
the world. My dad, Wales Lankford, who was a true example of “Incarnational Holiness”, was ill
and in the hospital during that time so I was really reflecting on my heritage of having “grown up” in
the Church of the Nazarene. Through the rest of the summer and into the fall our family was dealing
with my Dad’s illness and trying to make wise decisions. Although I’ve been a Christian for most of
my life, during all of this I really had to say to myself, “Do I really believe all of this? Is there really
a hope of heaven? This is what I’ve believed, sang about, taught and worked for all of my life. But
do I really believe this?” When my dad made the bravest decision of all to go home and enter
hospice care rather than to try to have additional surgeries and possibly an external heart pump, it
was a pivotal time for all of us to know that yes, we do believe what the Bible says and we have great
joy in the hope of heaven. During my dad’s last days we had some really sweet times of singing,
praying, testifying, and rejoicing. He asked everyone who came to his home, “Will I see you in
heaven?” and several were won to the Lord during that time because of his testimony. We do believe
that we will be with Jesus and see our loved ones again. It also gives us renewed urgency for telling
others about Jesus. This question lingers for all that we know and all that we have yet to meet “Will
I see you in heaven?” I just want to encourage all of you who are faithfully working for the Lord in
your local communities that each day there are those that you will see in heaven because of your
faithfulness and because of what you have done through missions. Some you may not know until
eternity, but keep the faith and keep practicing that “Incarnational Holiness” that is a part of what we
do continually to lead others to the Lord.
In September I was blessed to be able to attend the Northwest Region Work and Witness Conference
in Portland, Oregon. Thank you for the opportunity to attend. This is a wonderful conference with
many different missionaries telling about the Work and Witness needs in their regions. The next
conference will be September 12 – 13, 2014 in Portland, Oregon with special speaker Verne Ward. I
will send out information about that soon, so please be watching for it if you want to attend a great
conference and make some excellent Work and Witness contacts.
However, during this time there was tragedy happening in Colorado. We had days and days of rain
which caused tremendous flooding throughout our state. Our churches really stepped up to help
others in a variety of ways: providing Crisis Care Kits for those displaced by flooding, taking
offerings to help those impacted, and providing practical help like places to stay and doing laundry
for those without water. Colorado churches gave an offering to our district NMI of $2382 and
combined with $698 that was received after the fires last year $3080 was dispersed to local churches
and individuals to provide for their needs related to this flooding. Thank you Colorado Nazarenes for
your hearts of compassion towards others.

During the fall and in December we once again had our district wide Nazarene Navajo Nation
Ministry (NNNM) under the direction of Rev. Rick Davis. This year we had 66 Colorado churches
participate in the project. We sent 1800 gifts to the churches on the Navajo Reservation, along with
327 boxes of extra food, clothing, and gifts. In addition, we provided beans, sugar and flour and a
special blessing of 31 bicycles that one church was able to get donated from their local Wal-Mart.
Unfortunately the weather for the trip was hazardous in some cases and many people that had
planned to go were not able to get out of Colorado. However, again Colorado Nazarenes were a
great blessing to the churches in the Navajo Nation. Thank you! December 5 – 6, 2014 will be the
dates for this year’s trip. Be sure to attend the District Assembly Conference workshop about
NNNM for all the latest details!
In the area of giving, Colorado Nazarenes are very generous. Our World Evangelism Fund is the
heartbeat of World Missions providing for Nazarene Missionaries world-wide. This year $675,314
was contributed to the World Evangelism Fund. This was 98.9% of our goal. Here are just a few
more ways that you gave this year: A total $4740 went to our Colorado LINKS (Loving Interested
Nazarenes Knowing and Sharing) missionaries. These are missionaries that have been assigned to
our district so that we can provide love and support. We have a new set of LINKS missionaries for
the next two years. Please show your love to them by giving gifts at Christmas and birthdays if
possible. Cards and notes are always great as well; $1450 was given to Memorial Roll, $820 to
Distinguished Service Awards, and $1480 to Missionary Health Care; $33,142.50 was given for
Alabaster; $4991.62 for World Mission Broadcast; $128,042 was given for Compassionate
Ministries; $40,502 was given for deputation offerings for missionaries; $42,593.13 was given for
Jesus Film; and $40,055 was given for Child Sponsorship. Thank you Colorado Nazarenes for your
generosity to others. I know that these gifts are given through sacrifice and love.
This year we have the opportunity to participate in NMI’s 100th Anniversary offering which is Papua
New Guinea Kudjip Nazarene Hospital Toilet Block 5. With this offering (goal of $10,000 from our
district) they will add toilet and shower blocks, so every household has access to flushing toilets,
sinks, and showers.
Many churches are also providing opportunities for discipleship of children, youth, and young adults
through giving, education, and hands on experiences for them.
Of course, prayer is the foundation for anything that we do. There are many ways to find out about
global prayer requests. You can sign up for e-mails from the Prayer Mobilization Line or friend
them on Facebook to see up to date requests right on your Facebook Newsfeed. I also want to
encourage all of you to sign up to receive Mission Connection and Engage Magazine. These are
free on-line publications. You can sign up for these and many more at this website:
http://nazarene.org/subscriber.html
My thanks goes out to all of you for your continued work in making sure the people of Colorado are
giving to missions, being educated about missions, being discipled as missional people, and above all
praying! These four core values of NMI can help in your planning and programming throughout the
year.
My deep gratitude goes to the District Office staff, the NMI Council, and the Carolity Fraley
(Northwest Regional Representative) for your encouragement and support. I thank the Lord for his
provision and mercy towards me throughout this year. I am extremely grateful for all of the work
that has gone on through your local churches. Pastors and NMI Presidents you are so valuable to our
district and I thank God for you and all that you are doing. I pray that God will richly bless you as
you continue working for Him and look forward with anticipation to the day we will stand before
Him to hear Him say, “Well done.”
Respectfully Submitted,
Wayla Murrow, Colorado District NMI

“The biggest threat to the church today is fans who call themselves Christians but aren’t actually interested in following Christ. They want to be close enough to Jesus to get all the benefits, but not so close that it requires anything from them.”
Pastor Kyle Idleman Not a Fan: Becoming a Completely Committed Follower of Jesus
I present to you my 6th report as the Colorado District NYI President, and am very grateful for the faith that you have entrusted in me with the task of helping lead this great district. The past year has been on full of exciting experiences for me and others on our district. A year ago, we were finishing up an incredible time at camp, much like we are today. At the time I, along with our other delegates, was preparing for a trip with our fellow delegates to Manila in the Philippines to represent our great district at our Global NYI Convention, little did we know that we would be exposed to so many life-changing events by experiencing a ministry to those with handicaps, experiencing their various expertise and tradecraft, and getting schooled in a pickup game of basketball. We also got to worship with people from so many cultures, countries and different languages. We also had an incredible journey into an extremely poor community that is filled with young people that choose to serve God in that community through ministry to the body, mind and soul. I left inspired to see our students reaching out and ministering to those around them. After a tiny amount of rest from that journey around the world, I journeyed to Oklahoma City with 7 of our churches, made up by almost 100 of our students and adults, to minister to a city devastated by 2 massive tornadoes a month before. We had an opportunity to see and come alongside passionate and creative minds as they sought to reach out in love to those affected by this life-altering event. In 110 degree heat, compounded by massive amounts of humidity, our students never stopped working. I was so proud to be a part of this incredible group of young people and the volunteer
122
sponsors that made up our group. A huge amount of gratitude goes out to Ben Becker for taking the enormous step of faith and leading this first time event for our district. We couldn’t of done it without him. A few months later, several adults and I then had the privilege a few months later to join several of our district’s Junior & Seniors as we dove into The Call Conference at NNU. This is a special time and space for students to seek out God’s calling for their lives and ministry. Journeying with them through this process is an incredible opportunity and privilege to help discern God’s calling. The process doesn’t come without struggle at times, but it is so worth it as we move forward alongside our students. I thank Ed Belzer for his leadership in helping coordinate this event for our district. Quickly after that many from throughout our great district journeyed to Estes Park for Powersurge, where over 300 of us worshipped, played in ball-pits, braved blizzard-like weather and sought out what it means to have a First-Hand Faith. So much incredible discussion took place in our small groups, and I still enjoy hearing of decisions made to not stand still, but to take possession of God’s call on our lives through making faith-steps. Thanks go out to PJ Horn and Mickey Cox for once again leading us through this, and honestly, I can’t wait until this year. Attending Main Event and watching our students do the various things that God has enabled and equipped them to do is a marvelous thing. The musical and artistic talent is so thick within the students of our district, and then we were able to evidence the spectacular athletic prowess of so many through basketball, volleyball and dodgeball. Thanks go out to Tim Snowbarger, Chris Johnson, John Farley and Ken Davis and so many others for their tireless efforts to create an event that runs so smoothly for so many students and adults to participate in. To cap the past year off, personally, I was given an opportunity to travel to Israel in order to experience the Holy Land, to see and to walk in the places that Christ existed and thrived. One of the things that struck me while on that trip is that in the midst of all the layers of history and wonder, there is a connection point in Israel that has stood throughout the test of time. In this incredible land, there are two bodies of water that have a single connection point but react in very different ways. The Jordan River flows through this beautiful and historic land and connects the land’s 2 primary bodies of water, the Sea of Galilee and the Dead Sea. What struck me is they are both beautiful and majestic in their settings, and from the outside both are very similar in many ways. But the difference is on the inside. The Sea of Galilee is refreshing, and overflowing with life and vitality. 1000’s of years have passed and it still supports life in and around it. The Dead Sea on the other hand is toxic and is dying. It doesn’t take long when in the water that your body senses it and it doesn’t take long before it begins to desire to escape. Some may wonder why there is a difference? Others might be wondering why I am mentioning this in a report about youth ministry on our district. The reason is answered for both questions, in the same
123
answer; the Sea of Galilee is both fed and feeds the Jordan River, but the Dead Sea just takes it in. All of that is to say this. We have one Spirit that unites us all. We, as followers of Christ, have the choice to just take the Spirit in and be consumers or we have the choice to receive it and let the Spirit flow through us to affect others through its life-giving essence. While the world tells you to be consumers of everything, Christ tells us to deny ourselves, to pick up our Cross and follow him…that through Him we will be refreshed and that we can be sources of refreshment to those around us. You were not designed by the Heavenly Father to be consumers, you were designed to be in relationship with Him and to serve others in His Name. My challenge to you, and to our district, this year is to be the Galilee where God has placed you. Be instruments of God’s life-giving Spirit in such a way that those around you will know that there is something different on the inside of you that sets you apart from the world’s presentation that is focused on the outside. Find places to serve in your home, in your school, in your church and in your community. Don’t be just consumers, but allow yourselves to be flowing with God’s love, grace and forgiveness to those around you that they may experience God in a mighty way. In His Grip, Troy Teeter

District SDMI Chair Report
2013-14
Thanks to the District SDMI Board for all of their work and assistance during this
year. We began with last year's District Conference with Leonard Sweet as our
guest speaker. He challenged us to consider how God is working through the
church and His followers. He also gave us new ways God is reaching people
around the world.
This year we will sponsor a workshop in the fall focusing on Telling the
Story. This new method of teaching and preaching is rapidly spreading around the
world.
Thanks for all those churches which report on time and support Sunday School,
Small Groups, Bible Studies, and Discipleship.
Your Partner in Ministry,
Roger D Freels
