GPACT Instructor, Registered Nurse -‐ Shirley Emilio Shirley works freelance as a training consultant offering her extensive insight and knowledge from a medical viewpoint. Having worked closely with doctors at her own Detox centre, set up seven venues and run Colon Hydrotherapy programs at high profile retreats, she understands the key elements around management, marketing and codes of practice. Preventative healthcare is the UK’s aim and ultimately I believe colon hydrotherapy must be involved in that landscape.

After a successful career in Business Development, Economic and Social Regeneration, Shemila followed her passion for Health and Wellbeing influenced by a family history of digestive cancer. Once she established herself as an experienced Colon Hydrotherapist, combining her experience in Business Development and her understanding of the links between lifestyle habits and health to deliver a course in Colon Hydrotherapy that would enable therapists to deliver preventative healthcare, set up their own practice and generate an income

Trainer – Penny Deadman

Penny came to Colon Hydrotherapy from an IT background following the sudden death of her brother-‐in-‐law two weeks from being diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer. Her realisation of the importance of nutrition and life Style habits led her to Colon Hydrotherapy. After setting up a successful Colon Hydrotherapy practice, Penny decided to teach the trade to other aspiring therapists. As a visual person, she understands the need to teach people to suit their style.

I successfully completed my junior doctor programme in August 2013. My role involved gaining experience in Paediatrics. General, Acute and Elderly Medicine, General Surgery, General Practice and Ophthalmology. Voluntary teaching of final year medical students. I have approximately 18 years experience working in the operating theatre performing technical, teaching and managerial duties prior to my medical career.

The Foundation Course in Colon Hydrotherapy The Colon Hydrotherapy course is fully accredited and approved by GPACT (Global Professional Association for Colon Therapists).

This course is also recognised by professional indemnity insurance companies. There is a choice of insurance company and cover available.

If you are changing careers, and have no previous knowledge of anatomy and physiology, you will need to complete the anatomy and physiology pre-‐study course before proceeding to colon hydrotherapy foundation studies.

Stage 1 -‐ Anatomy & Physiology Distance Learning For medical professions including nursing, there is no requirement to attend the Anatomy & Physiology course provided they have fulfilled the criteria for an exemption. An external body manages the exemption process.

For students who have little or no background in the life sciences or those who have not studied biology for a number of years, the Dotolo Europe Training School in Colon Hydrotherapy works in partnership with Alternative Training, an independent organisation recognised as a leader in providing home study courses for alternative medicine. Founded in 1987, the company stands for quality and the highest levels of student support.

It has helped countless students spread their wings and take flight into the world of alternative medicine. Over 250 students enrol on Alternative Training's courses each year in more than 60 countries. This course is designed to give a solid foundation of Digestive Anatomy and Physiology and the Physiology of Colon Hydrotherapy and can be transported to other therapies. In this course the student will develop comprehension of:

The structure and function of the human body The processes and the inter-‐relation of the body systems Why and how all the parts of the human body work and relate to each other in the whole person; the holistic approach. The course is carried out by home study. There is no strict timetable for the completion of the course -‐ you work through the learning materials at your own pace.

Stage 2 -‐ Practical Internship This consists of 6 days of practical training on location in our training centres in Durham and Reading. Our students carry out treatments from beginning to end.

The key purpose of the course would be for you to perform a minimum of 20 Colon Hydrotherapy treatments during the course and will include the review of Anatomy & Physiology in relation to Colon Hydrotherapy.

Stage 3 -‐ Continuous Professional Development We expect our graduates to progress to Advanced and Master Practitioner levels. Our modular approach to CPD has been designed to allow busy therapists to acquire the necessary skills without taking too much time off their busy schedules. A series of one-‐day modules that will build up a portfolio resulting in qualifying towards advanced or master practitioner levels training.

Subjects covered: • Digestive physiology; • History, Goals Physiology and Benefits of colon hydrotherapy • Diseases of the bowel; Stools • Indications and Contraindications • Professional Conduct: Code of Ethics and Practice for Practitioners • The Philosophy of Informing and helping -‐ Empowering the client • Time Management and Self-‐care and Hygiene • A to Z of workplace preparation, supplies and disposables • A to Z of operating the Machine including cleaning and Sanitation • Pre-‐Treatment Client Interview -‐ Client records • Insertion; conducting the treatment; • Customising treatments to clients needs; abdominal massage • Business skills • After care & FAQs Graduating students are entitled to a course discount on professional equipment -‐ £500 voucher to spend on Dotolo products including the Colon Hydrotherapy Device. The package also includes postgraduate mentoring for 12 months from graduation and a discount on further Colon Hydrotherapy Continued Professional Development courses.
