COLLINGWOOD NEWS 11th
October 2019
Our week started off with a KS2 visit to the
Compassion Experience. This was an inspiring
and interactive view of the life of Patience, a
girl from a poor village in Uganda, who had
turned her life of poverty around with the
help of this charity. As a fantastic follow-up,
the children in Years 5 and 6 have worked in
collaborative groups this week to create their
own imaginative presentations for the other
classes to learn from. What a great task to
start off their Collingwood Way Award this
year.
Being citizens of this community was also a
theme this week as we held our Harvest
Festival at Holy Trinity Church. It is a lovely
occasion for all the pupils and families to
come together and the songs and other
performances were enjoyed by all. Thank you
for all the donations, which were taken to
Sutton Nightwatch for the Homeless today -
an important local charity to be supporting.
Finally, today we have seen vikings arriving in
Maple Class. Mr Sitch and the team have
shown their truly resilient skills as they have
transported themselves back in time to live
outside for one drizzly day like vikings. They
have whittled weapons, eaten an authentic
feast and much more. Another super learning
experience that the children will no doubt
remember for a very long time.
We look forward to welcoming back many of
our children tomorrow for our Open
Morning. They are looking forward to being
proud tour guides and I know they will
impress all of our visiting parents.

It was fantastic to get this quote provided by Christian in Year 6 this week
from a famous Michael Jackson lyric. What a great thing when pupils come
up with the poignant quote or motivational phrase. Have a think about...
This song was recorded in 1987, but how are the words very relevant for
things happening in the world right now in 2019? How can we make the
world better by ourselves? Can one person make changes?
The song this is taken from is called 'Man in the Mirror' - why do you think
this may be? Go and listen!

‘Be Kind to your Mind’ week at Collingwood
School starts next week. As part of the
experience our children will be taking part in
sessions with ‘Healthy Mind UK’ as well as having
a giant ‘pop up brain’ in our gym!
The vast majority of parents dropping off or picking up park
very 'courteously' and with due regard to our neighbours and
to the safety of other road users and pedestrians. However,
we ask that you do not park in front of driveways or on the
yellow zig-zags outside the school.
Another issue is that some parents who may park up in
suitable place leave their engine running for long periods of
time. This causes unnecessary car fumes to be given off,
which affects pedestrians. Please can we also ask that
engines are switched off as soon as the car is parked. Thank
you for your understanding in both these matters.
NOTE: CHANGE OF TIME to 5.30pm to 7pm
Don’t forget to buy your tickets for the Autumn Fancy Dress Disco

October and tickets are
£7.50 per child, no tickets available on the door. The entrance fee
includes a hot dog, drink and a sweet snack. Please let the School
Office know if you are able to help – these events need you!
Remember to bring in your carved pumpkins on the day of the
disco for decoration.

November at 6.30pm at the Greyhound,
Carshalton. Do come along and help plan the
exciting Christmas events.
