“Where the Action Is”

Initial Advising

• Meet with the Chair or Program Director to review your transfer credits

• Be sure that all of your credits are accounted for – you may have to resend your transcript if something is missing

• Map out your curriculum• Ask about pre-reqs• Ask about reqs outside of the curriculum

More Advising

• Each student will be assigned a faculty advisor that will assist with scheduling classes, curriculum mapping & planning your future

• Make it a point to meet your advisor during the first 2 weeks of the fall semester. Email him/her to set up a short meeting or stop by during their office hours for a quick introduction

• Be sure to ask how they will be handling advising appointments around scheduling dates

Scheduling

• Scheduling is completed on-line• You will need to meet with your advisor to

have your “flag” removed (this is a scheduling hold)

• Once your advisor removes your flag you will be allowed to schedule on your designated time/date

• Familiarize yourself with the scheduling system

• Make sure you go all the way through – some students do not complete the last step and have not been enrolled in their classes

Internships

• Almost all of our programs have some sort of internship requirement (student teaching, clinical hours, etc) and most are off-campus

• Pay attention to the pre-reqs for these experiences – be sure to have all required paperwork/certifications completed too

Problem Solving

• If you run into difficulty of some sort, check with your professor/advisor/dept. chair – they may be able to help you out

• If it is a policy issue, refer to the Undergraduate Catalog or the Ram’s Eye View

• Many policies are time sensitive – be sure to find & abide by the timeline for the policy

• Most needed forms are located on the Registrar’s page

Student Organizations• There are multiple student organizations open to

you.• Campus-wide• Departmental

• There are also many volunteer opportunities

Dean’s Office• CHS Website

Parking

• Get here early – parking is tight• There is bus service between N & S Campus –

it takes 10-15 minutes to go between the bus stops

• Do not schedule back to back classes if 1 is on N. Campus & the other is on S. Campus

• You will be ticketed and/or towed if you do not register your car & get a parking sticker
