• ALLALL TLAC students MUSTMUST attend a mandatory advising session with an advisor once per semester. Students are blocked from registering for subsequent semesters until they have been advised.

How do Academic Advisors help?

• Give guidance and advice on degree requirements and completion.

• Answer questions about transfer courses.• Give guidance and advice on course

schedules and course loads.• Refer you to campus resources.• Provide help and assistance on pretty much

anything else you may need (almost).

What happens in Mandatory Advising Sessions?

• Plan the next three semesters (minimum- we can do more!)

• Address questions or concerns about grades and classes

Degree Plans

• TLAC offers three teacher certification certification optionsoptions:– PK-6 Generalist PK-6 Generalist (with ESL Supplemental)*

– 4-8 Language Arts/Social Studies 4-8 Language Arts/Social Studies (with ESL Supplemental)*

– 4-8 Math/Science4-8 Math/Science

• All three certification options meet requirements for a B.S. in Interdisciplinary StudiesB.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies!

Professional Phase• Admission to the professional phase of Teacher Education

(or “upper level”) is contingent upon completion of:– MATH 141 and 142 (or equivalents)– 8 hours of laboratory science courses– ENGL 104– TEFB 273 or INST 310 (or equivalents.)– Minimum of 45 hours of coursework– Minimum 2.75 GPR

• Delays in completing these requirements will delay admission to the professional phase and could affect graduation. No No upper level coursework until prerequisites are complete!upper level coursework until prerequisites are complete!

Field Based Experiences

• One reason Aggie Teachers are in high demand- extensive field preparation.– Junior Methods: Junior Methods: associated with TEFB 471 and EDCI 454 (6

hours.)– Senior Methods: Senior Methods: two days per week for 12 weeks; associated

with Sr. Methods block of coursework (12 hours.)– Student Teaching: Student Teaching: five days per week for 12 weeks, with four

weeks of full responsibility; associated with TEFB 426, MEFB 497, or TEED 425 (6-12 hours.)

• Field placement office will make placement assignments.• Complete Criminal History Background Check paperwork

each semester for field placement.

Grades & Academic Progress

• You must maintain a GPR of 2.75 or better at TAMU to continue as a TLAC student.– All courses must be completed with a grade of C or

better; no grades of D or F allowed.

– If this requirement is not met, you WILL be dismissed WILL be dismissed from TLAC and asked to change your major.

– You must have this requirement met by the end of your first semester at TAMU.

Q-Drop & Withdrawal

• Q-Drop/Withdrawal Deadline is November 15 at 5:00pmNovember 15 at 5:00pm.

• See an advisor if you are thinking of Q-Dropping or Withdrawing- one of these may help you save your GPR so that you can remain in TLAC.
