STORY AND PHOTOS BY ADELIA HENDERSON Cur (s) ed J esica Shipley has always had vivid dreams. Some of those dreams were recently combined into a screenplay for a movie, Cur(s)ed, which was filmed in downtown Gray July 24. Based upon compilations of Shipley’s dreams, Cur(s)ed is about a woman who was born with the ability to heal others, but takes on the other person’s sickness if she heals them. The woman promises to never use her power, but when a massive plague erupts, she must decide to either save herself or others. Shipley, a recent graduate of Georgia Southern University, enlisted the help of Gray resi- dents along with friends Allie Bailey, Dakota Day and Shaina Green to aid in her production. Many local officials also partici- pated in filming, including the Gray Police Department, Gray Fire Department, Jones County Rescue and Southeast Medical Transport. John Shipley, assistant chief at the City of Gray Fire Department Station 7 and Jesica’s father, also played a big role in his daughter’s production by helping to fill extra rolls and pitching in behind the scenes. Shipley hopes that everyone who watches her film will take away different things in order for it to be unique and special to their lives. “That is one of the most won- derful things about film, that each viewer could take away a dif- ferent meaning,” she said. “But to me, this film represents selfless- ness, unconditional love, and that humans are inherently good.” Cur(s)ed will be entered into HBO’s Project Greenlight, a competition in which amateur filmmakers submit a three-min- ute film. Project Greenlight is a multitiered competition, with an entry deadline of Aug. 8. Short films entered into the competition will progress through several rounds of voting and judging. Finalists will have the opportunity to work with Hollywood crews and produc- ers to direct scenes based upon a provided script. The winner of the competi- tion will have the opportunity to direct a script from pre-pro- duction and casting to filming and post-production. The entire process will be documented for the HBO documentary series, Project Greenlight, produced by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. A private screening of the movie will be held for the cast and crew of Cur(s)ed in early August. The public will then be able to view the film on the Project Greenlight website or Facebook page. Gray Police Department, Gray Fire Department, Jones County Recue and several Jones County residents serve as actors and extras in the filming of Cur(s)ed. Bailey and actor Dakota Day prepare for a scene with filmmaker Jesica Shipley, along with assistance from Southeast Medical Transport.

Cur(s)ed

Jesica Shipley has always had vivid dreams. Some of those dreams were

recently combined into a screenplay for a movie, Cur(s)ed, which was filmed in downtown Gray July 24.

Based upon compilations of Shipley’s dreams, Cur(s)ed is about a woman who was born with the ability to heal others, but takes on the other person’s sickness if she heals them. The woman promises to never use her power, but when a massive plague erupts, she must decide to either save herself or others.

Shipley, a recent graduate of Georgia Southern University, enlisted the help of Gray resi-dents along with friends Allie Bailey, Dakota Day and Shaina Green to aid in her production. Many local officials also partici-pated in filming, including the Gray Police Department, Gray Fire Department, Jones County Rescue and Southeast Medical Transport.

“That is one of the most won-derful things about film, that each viewer could take away a dif-ferent meaning,” she said. “But to me, this film represents selfless-ness, unconditional love, and that humans are inherently good.”

Cur(s)ed will be entered into HBO’s Project Greenlight, a competition in which amateur filmmakers submit a three-min-ute film. Project Greenlight is a multitiered competition, with an entry deadline of Aug. 8.

Short films entered into the competition will progress through several rounds of voting and judging. Finalists will have the opportunity to work with Hollywood crews and produc-ers to direct scenes based upon a provided script.

The winner of the competi-tion will have the opportunity to direct a script from pre-pro-duction and casting to filming and post-production. The entire process will be documented for the HBO documentary series, Project Greenlight, produced by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck.
