4-year College Entrance exams are:
SAT – apply at www.collegeboard.com
ACT – apply at www.act.org
Depending on the school you are applying to or the major
you are selecting you may also want and need to take an SAT
Subject Test.
If you are eligible for free/reduced lunch you will be eligible
for fee waivers for the following:
SAT, ACT, NCAA Clearinghouse and some college
applications
Military Choices & Benefits

• Hazelwood Act – (Texas Residents) If you are a veteran in good standing that did not use your educational benefits your child is eligible to use benefits.
• Each branch offers a variety of educational benefits please contact recruiters for details
• ASVAB Assessment – will be administering to all seniors on 10/16/13.
NCAA Clearinghouse
• The purpose of this organization is to work with the NCAA
to determine students’ eligibility to participate in sports in
their first years in a university or college.
• At NCAA Division I or Division II institutions, it does this
by reviewing the student athlete's academic record, SAT
or ACT scores, and amateur status to ensure conformity
with NCAA rules.
NCAA Clearinghouse cont.
• There is no registration deadline, but students
must be cleared by the clearinghouse before they
receive athletic scholarships or compete at a
Division I or Division II institution.

• If your school is not in either of these networks- you will

obtain application-most likely via their website.
Open Enrollment – Junior colleges, 2 year schools
Holistic Review process – 4 year schools, common with
private schools
FAFSA - After Jan. 1

• Get pin #’s early and don’t lose it
• Fafsa4caster
• Use the 800 numbers- extremely helpful
• Be aware of Early Admissions and Early
Binding Decisions – vary among schools
