eMAR promoting collaboration in shipping
May-14 Takis Katsoulakos - Collaboration in Shipping 4
• Shipping services are by nature part of a complex cooperation network which includes:• Interactions with shippers / charterers and ship suppliers • Interactions with ports and terminals • Integration in logistic chains • Interactions authorities
• The eMAR vision is to empower the European maritime sector in offering quality shipping services over an upgraded maritime transport information management infrastructure supporting interoperable shipping collaboration networks
Interconnecting shipping services and multimodal transport chains

Aligning with e-NavigationThe Five Proposed Solutions from e-Navigation
• Improved, harmonized and user-friendly bridge design;
• Improved reliability, resilience and integrity of bridge equipment and navigation information;
• Means for standardized and automated reporting;
• Integration and presentation of available information in graphical displays received via communication equipment; and
• Improved Communication of VTS Service Portfolio

The e-Maritime Strategic Framework (EMSF)
The EMSF is based upon: • a set of clearly defined roles that describe responsibilities and
functions;
• a set of reference processes that demonstrate collaboration in e-shipping operations and end to end transport chains; and
• a set of standardised messages that define the information that should be communicated between parties in order to:o Manage ship and fleet operation
o Plan, execute and complete multimodal transport

eMAR Ecosystems• Business Ecosystem for shipping collaboration : business
communities producing and consuming services and exchanging information compliant with the EMSF messages, and
• Technology Ecosystem enabling shipping collaboration: semantically enhanced ICT infrastructure supporting interoperability and cooperation between software services, enterprise systems and intelligent objects.

DIGITAL ECOSYSTEM (APPLICATIONS, COMMON INFRASTRUCTURE, SERVICES, …)
BUSINESS ECOSYSTEM
eMAR ecosystem
The eMAR Ecosystem comprises of Solutions and Infrastructure which:
• Support the interoperability and cooperationbetween the participants of the eMAR Business Ecosystem,
• Transform Business Processes to eMAR Software Services accessible through Internet (SOA)
• Provide entry points (Access Points) to the eMAR Business Participants to connect and transact
• Uses a Common set of EMSF Messages which are exchanged between the eMAR Business Participants for efficient, and unambiguous communications.
May-14 Takis Katsoulakos - Collaboration in Shipping 16
Connectivity Infrastructure
• Access Points are main entry point to Technology Ecosystem and provides controlled access to software services.
• Access Points are configured according to standard message profiles (TSD, CRS, eMAR messages..) defined within a business community.
• They include interfaces to connect with services or other Access points to consume other services and retrieve data.

InleMAR ecosystem participants (users)
• Maritime data and application Service Providers that publish their services in the Ecosystem
• Service Developers that use InleMAR tools to produce composite (value added) services
• Maritime Service Consumers that use any service to support their day to day activities
May-14 Takis Katsoulakos - Collaboration in Shipping 23
InleMAR user options• Service Providers make services accessible through
• Access Points, easy to connect once and speak with all, and inheriting common services such as security and notification
• or exposed as a web services • connection through access points of preconfigured semantics and
characteristics, transparently from the developer / end user.
• Once the application is registered in the Ecosystem, a user interface is made available in the portal, accessible from all users
• Custom interfaces (dashboards) are available and configurable by each type of user
