Greater Prairie Chicken The greater prairie chicken inhabits tallgrass prairie in the Flint Hills region of Kansas and northeastern Oklahoma. Lesser Prairie Chicken The lesser prairie chicken occurs in shortgrass, mixed-grass and shrubland habitats in southwestern Kansas, northwestern Oklahoma and the northeast Texas Panhandle. Bats Bat species in Kansas and Oklahoma include the pallid bat, Townsend’s big-eared bat, cave myotis, tri-colored bat, big brown bat, and the Mexican free-tailed bat (OK only).
