The focus of this paper is present a variety of helpful information on Oracle Applications

R12 (up to R12.1.3 at this time but this paper and presentation are evolving as we do

more and more R12 projects). The intent is to provide “blinks” of useful information to

attendees that are typically found during an implementation or upgrade but is outside the

setups, methodology used, etc. Some of these topics have been discussed time and time

again, this paper focuses on real project issues and problems, with solutions, that are

applicable to any or all installations of the R12. This document consolidate a lot of good

R12 information while the most pertinent information will be found in the presentation

which can also be downloaded from the OAUG Collab 12 website. The presentation will

be an hour of fun filled discussion about Oracle R12, new features, functionality, and

technology, along with some interesting findings from R12 upgrades and

implementations. We will discuss a variety of information on R12; technical and

functional, as well as provide some helpful tidbits from Oracle and other sources. We

believe that each attend will learn something from this presentation and encourage you to

attend.

We intend to present information on Oracle Applications R12 not found anywhere but

through research, trial and error, My Oracle Support, and in some cases in the minds of

consultants who deal with the applications day-in and day-out.

Some information found below is exactly what can be found in the presentation. We

encourage you to attend the presentation to hear this information first hand. We will

continue to add items to the presentation right up to Collab 11 so please be sure to

download the latest version from www.oaug.org prior to the conference.

There is a wealth of data available on Oracle Applications R12 on the internet, through

My Oracle Support (MOS), blogs, etc. We have provided some starting points for you

and your team, and highly recommend that you visit these websites on a regular basis.

The first site is support.oracle.com, or better known as My Oracle Support (MOS). As

you can see by the screen shot below, we’ve queried up document identification number

806593.1 – this is the latest information available on R12.1 on the Oracle Support

website and should be considered a must visit prior to starting your R12 implementation

or upgrade.

This website contains information on new products being released in R12 to how to

approach executing your R12 upgrade; it is the best information center for R12 available.

Being Oracle is the source of this information, and it gets frequently updated (note the

date), it should be considered a very reference-able source.

The second site, or blog, we like is that of Steven Chan, which can be found here:

Steven’s website contains detailed information presented in summary form with active

links and diagrams that help users comprehend the most complex subjects. On occasion

there are detailed technical aspects which users may want their technical team evaluating

but overall the blog is easy to read, updated frequently, and has excellent information to

support the most complex R12 environments.

The following pages contain “blinks” of information that we’ve either uncovered from

R12 projects through research, trial and error, website hits, inquiring on MOS, or

stumbled upon. Most of the information found below can be found in the companion

presentation which will be presented at Collab 11.

The first thing we need to bring up is Multiple Organization Access Control or MOAC.

How you use, change or setup MOAC will be based on whether or not you are using

Oracle HRMS, and Security groups. The below examples are based on not using HRMS

but profile values to drive the use of multiple organizations in an organization.

MOAC profile settings such as MO: Default Operating Unit, MO: Operating Unit and

MO: Security Profile are the primary settings for implementing and activating multiple

organizations within an Oracle Application R12 environment. A screen shot of the profile

options is below.

This example shows that for the Payables Manager – Canada, the Canada OU is being

set, therefore it will be used throughout the session for that responsibility.

The example above shows the MO: Security Profile being assigned, if this is assigned

along with the MO: Operating Unit, the MO: Security Profile takes precedence and based

in the group assigned will provide a list of values to be shown when using the

responsibility. This is most likely not what was intended when a new responsibility was

created for Canada – the assume was that only Canada would be assigned, so let’s clear

the MO: Security Profile to allow this to happen.

This is the list of values that would present if the MO: Security Profile is set as noted

above.


Reprinting concurrent requests in R12 has changed as well. As you can see below the

form looks the same, but when the Reprint/Republish option is selected, the system takes

you to a fancy new web based form.

The Reprint option presents the below form which is fairly intuitive.

So you want to know where to get a list of all the R12 reports that are obsolete? Well,

look no further than MOS – MOS provides the document below as well as many more

that have a complete list of obsolete reports/concurrent request.

If the General Ledger link is selected above, the below screen will appear listing all

obsolete reports.

Another great place to visit for information on integrating with Oracle Applications is the

Integration Repository, found at irep.oracle.com. If you are integrating with third party

products or home grown applications to Oracle Applications this is a must use reference.

As you can see by the screen shot below (next page), Oracle has provided some great

information for each integration point; Name, internal Name, and other pertinent details.

shown below. This information can be also downloaded from the installation CDs for

R12 but we like to reference the online material to ensure we have the latest and greatest

information.

The below screen (next page) is an actual snapshot of an Oracle Applications R12 session

gone badly. We’ve experienced this on many occasions and the end result to fix it is to

completely log out of the session, clear the buffer cache, and start a new session.

The below screen is an actual snapshot of an attempt to add a new field using Folder

Tools. You will see the highlighted/circled areas below; well the field we added never

showed up but the “C” that is circled is actually an “O” for “Operating Unit” which never

appeared on the form. We subsequently found out that the field is present, it’s just behind

the Customer field, .

Some more helpful “blinks”, the Delivery Opts found on the Submit Request form now

allows users to print on document on an Internet Printer somewhere, email, fax or FTP all

based on having these features activated.

Also, there are some products, like from STR Software, which do an excellent job of

delivering, and managing, eBusiness documents.

In conclusion, we could go on-and-on with R12 Helpful “blinks” and R12 Crazy Stuff

throughout this paper but want to leave some for our presentation. We have a lot more

in-store for attendees of the presentation, so please join us if you can. We have found

working and finding solutions to these issue and problems, and helpful blinks to be

exciting, challenging, and frustrating. We write this paper and presentation to hopefully

help users understand and overcome some of the same issues in less time than it took us,

hopefully relieving any concerns and allowing you to focus on reaping the benefits of one

of the best enterprise applications in the world; Oracle Applications R12.

As you can see we’ve only scratched the surface on what the presentation entails - we
