This year we are Communicating Student Learning in a new way. You will receive an update in a written format of your child’s progress in the month of December. Some will be FreshGrade summaries and others will be formats created by the teachers. All of the updates have been discussed and approved before coming home. In addition, please see the latest news regarding the Curriculum timeline for BC schools from Minister Bernier on our website. Adopt a Family—we have partnered with a Prince George school this year and will be sending more detailed information from each class very soon. In the meantime, we will conduct our annual food drive competition for house team points. Each house team will collect food items and we will total the points for the end of this month. The top two scores will earn those teams a pizza lunch in the gym on Friday, Dec.16th. Felicitations to all our choristers and to Mme Carmen for a fantastic evening of song at the Christmas Nights of Musicyou sang like angels. A big thank you to Mme Rebecca Harris who accompanies our singers. Also thank you to all the parent volunteers and family members who came to support us. Our students would not be able to do so much of what they do without your great support. We also want to congratulate you on your performance at the Civic Light-Up last Sunday evening. It was really fun to see you all on stage with Santa and Mrs Claus!! Spectacle d’hiver: we look forward to seeing you at one of the performances (the same concert will be presented twice). Please be aware of the timing and leave yourself time to park! Remember all daytime parking restrictions will be in effect. The parking lot at the Salvation Army church might be a good bet. Please ensure that you come at the designated time if at all possible as our gym capacity is really at max at these events and we need to ensure compliance with regulations and safety. (Odd divisions = morning performance at 11:00 am - Even divisions = afternoon performance at 1:00pm) Weather, being prepared, and arriving on time: Please take into consideration that students must dress for outdoor weather so they can enjoy winter fun (students can expect to be outside during recess and lunch on most days). We have many who come dressed for a car ride, but not for outside. Please ensure your child has a warm coat and hat and mitts! If they don’t need them that’s OK, but better prepared than cold. Being repeatedly late: it is that time of the year again when many students are late nearly every day. The streets are slippery and traffic is slow… all this takes more time to get to school. Perhaps it would be a good idea to leave earlier to make it to class on time. Children who are late miss valuable classroom instruction (in French!), disrupt the teacher as well as the other students, and often feel self-conscious when they come in after things are already underway. Please, help your children arrive to school on time. It will contribute in helping them have a successful year! We appreciate your assistance in this matter. For more information, you can find the School District’s cold weather policy on the district’s website www.sd57.bc.ca Absences: if your child is going to be absent, please phone the school (250-562-1164) and leave a message. This is the best method of ensuring we know what’s happening. Emails/texts to the teacher are extras and personal choices. As always we appreciate your support and participation in what we do! We would like to welcome Mme Caroline Cardin to Lac de Bois. Mme Caroline will be teaching Mme Faye Johnston’ s grade 5/6 class (Div 17) as she is on maternity leave. Merci to Mme Gairns for teaching in that class in the meantime. One last thing: for stocking stuffers or little gifts, it is both a practical and economic addition to include shoe laces (incredible how frayed and destroyed they become, erasers and pencils, and maybe even new pencil crayons or crayons. Your children will enjoy a little refreshment to their supplies and their shoes will be more functional and safer if they can tie their laces :-) As always, feel free to drop in or get in touch if you have concerns or questions. PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

It is that time of year when parents are accustomed to a report. This year we are Communicating Student Learning in a

new way. You will receive an update in a written format of your child’s progress in the month of December. Some will be

FreshGrade summaries and others will be formats created by the teachers. All of the updates have been discussed and

approved before coming home. In addition, please see the latest news regarding the Curriculum timeline for BC schools

from Minister Bernier on our website.

Adopt a Family—we have partnered with a Prince George school this year and will be sending more detailed information

from each class very soon. In the meantime, we will conduct our annual food drive competition for house team points.

Each house team will collect food items and we will total the points for the end of this month. The top two scores will earn

those teams a pizza lunch in the gym on Friday, Dec.16th.

Felicitations to all our choristers and to Mme Carmen for a fantastic evening of song at the Christmas Nights of Music—

you sang like angels. A big thank you to Mme Rebecca Harris who accompanies our singers. Also thank you to all the

LEARNING COMMONS / BIBLIOTHEQUE

Students in grades 2-7 have the opportunity to take books home over the holidays. Students who are travelling for most of the holidays should leave the books at or not take books out for the holidays. Bills will be sent home this week. Please pay the bill. If the book is found later in good condition the money will be re-funded. Check out Tumblebooks, this is a program that reads aloud books either in French or in English. Students have the opportunity to follow along the highlighted text. To access Tumblebooks - go to the school website, choose Learning Commons and the Reading tab. Click on Tumblebooks - User id: sd57 and password: books. Check out the activities at the Public Library (http://www.pgpl.ca/events) : Monday night - needlework club for tweens and teens; Monday and Wednesdays - Homework club (grades 3-12); Thursday - Legotime and Double Digits; Satur-day - family story time and family movies.
