Dynaloy Inc. has developed some safe products that can be used in place of methylene chloride, methyl cellosolve, and other toxic or flammable solvents. Dynasolve 218 is a new nonflammable product developed to remove RTV silicone, silicone rubber, and other silicone materials. For in- creased effectiveness, Dynasolve 218 can be heated. UR-Away NF is a new nonflammable product developed to remove difficult polyure- thane buildup and crystallized isocyanates, as well as cured urethane adhesives and coatings.

PAINT STRIPPER

American Chemical Products has developed a new paint stripper that strips electrocoat as well as high-build powders. Stripper 240-C is used be- tween 30 and 50% concentration at a peak tem- perature of 200 to 220°F. Tank life is exceptionally long due to a formulation that provides excellent high-temperature stability. This formulation con- tains no phenols, cresylates, or volatile solvents and thus can be easily disposed of as any high- alkaline product.

Patclin #261K is a nonmethylene chloride liquid specifically developed to strip organic coatings from practically all metals without attacking the substrate. Patclin #261K strips powder coat, high- solid, and epoxy coatings. It does not contain methylene chloride, phenol, or any of their deriv- atives. When Patclin #261K is used as a cold stripper, the stripping time is greater than that of a methylene chloride stripper; however, when used at 160”F, stripping time approaches that of a methylene chloride stripper.

LIOUID NONPHENOLIC PAlNT STRIPPER

Luster-On Stripper LNP is a highly alkaline, liq- uid nonphenolic paint remover. The highly alka- line material removes acrylic, alkyd, epoxy, lac- quer, melamine, oil-base, polyurethane, polyester, urea-formaldehyde, phenolic, and vinyl finishes from steel, magnesium, brass, and copper. Used by immersion application, Stripper LNP provides long solution life and eliminates phenolic disposal problems.

ULTRAFAST STRIPPING BATHS

Heatbath Corp., a developer/manufacturer of specialty chemicals for metal finishing and metals processing, offers two economical alternatives for high-volume shops in need of fast, complete stripping of paints and powder coatings. Durastrip 1498 is a low-temperature bath for removing organic coatings from ferrous and aluminum parts. Its melting point is 425°F and has a 300°F working range. Durastrip M-3 is an alkaline, oxidizing salt bath for cleaning parts and fixtures made from ferrous materials. It removes enamels, epoxies, varnishes, and other finishes in a few seconds to a few minutes without hand labor. Durastrip M-3 has a melting point of 550°F and a wide working range. The bath is easy to maintain with a stable chemistry that does not require monitoring or titration.
