I’ve experienced both, especially with those closest to me. I remember times when I was younger and I would be mad at my mom, and times when my mom would be mad at me. Looking back on those times I realized a common occurrence. I knew my mom loved me- she would tell me that all the time. But, in those times of anger I would get swept up in my emotions and forget that truth. I would begin to question her love for me or even neglect to acknowledge it. I think a lot of times that is how we are with God. In seasons of anger or doubt, when nothing seems to be going our way, we tend to get swept up in those emotions and forget the truth that God loves us. Think back to a time at camp, or a time in your life, when you knew God loved you. You just felt it in your heart that God’s love was real. A lot of us who have experienced camp come back home overwhelmed with God’s love. However, life happens. We get pulled in so many directions and tossed about and oftentimes lose sight of what we know to be true. Wherever you are right now, God’s love rings true today just as much as it rang true then. In our seasons of anger and doubt, God loves you. He doesn’t change and neither does His love. Camp Oak Hill Celebrates 40th Anniversary in 2016!

One act of obedience to God’s calling created one vision impacting thousands. And perhaps “on paper”, we should not even be here. But, we are! Because of God’s faithful provision and the hands and feet of so many people, He continues to change lives through Camp Oak Hill. So, get ready! Exciting plans are in store in 2016 as we celebrate, “These 40 years the LORD your God has been with you and you have not lacked anything.” (Deuteronomy 2:7)

...and Freezers! God is bigger than our budget! There was one item on our budget that we didn’t include for this year and God chose to provide anyways! The Camp Oak Hill staff had been praying for a freezer for a while, and God showed up right in time. We got word that another camp was closing their doors and needed to get rid of all the food they had in stock. They gave a lot of the food to the church’s food ministry, but a lot of stuff was bulk and could not be used or distributed. Camp Oak Hill was asked if we could use the remaining bulk food and thanks to our new freezer, we said “sure we can!” The food was brought to us right on time...had it not been for our new freezer, we wouldn’t have been able to store this $1,000 worth of free food! Thank you everyone that donated to purchase the freezer. It was just in time...

Meet our Social media Intern!

Have you noticed you are “liking” more COH pictures? That’s because we have a wonderful Social Media Intern this Fall! Melody is one of our fabulous counselors who has a passion for marketing, social media, and spreading the word about all the good things happening at Camp. She’s a junior at UNC- Chapel Hill and loves all things Disney! We are so thankful for Melody and her role as Social Media Intern! Be sure to “Like” us on Facebook and “Follow” us on Twitter and Instagram to keep up-to-date with everything happening at COH.

God Loves Biscuits...One morning at Camp Oak Hill I came in to cook breakfast with no power due to a storm the night before. I could cook bacon and use one oven because it was run by gas, so I started breakfast in the dark. I went into my new freezer with only a tiny flashlight to get what I needed. I said to myself, “Some people would let it stop them from working to have to cook in these conditions”, but I know these people are hungry and still need to eat, regardless of the power issue.” So, I began to cook and got the bacon done. I had biscuits and hash browns in the oven cooking. Our power works on phases, and two of the phases were out, but not the one that runs the gas oven. Then, BAMMM! the power goes out on all three phases! But to the Glory of God, and because I feel God loves biscuits, they were perfectly done. They were not under cooked and not over cooked, they were perfect, just the way God likes them. Thank You, God, for letting all the food cook before all power was lost. The group enjoyed a good meal in the dark...

Camp Oak Hill Bible Study (COHBS) is a great way to be involved with camp throughout the year. COHBS is for middle and high school students (grades 7–12) and meets every Tuesday night at Church of the Apostles in Raleigh from 7–8:30 PM. Our meetings consist of fellowship time through socializing and games, a message from one of the leaders or an upperclassman student, and small group discussions where the campers break up by grade and gender and discuss what they have learned from the Bible and how it can apply to their life.

This year, we’ll be going “DEEP”:Develop your relationship with GodExperience genuine communityEmbrace spiritual disciplinesProclaim the gospel

Over the course of the semester and school year, Michael, and our COHBS intern, Merritt, will be teaching on each part of our acronym, diving into what each of those topics looks like and what the Bible has to say about them. After that, campers will be studying the book of Mark. If you’re interested in knowing more about COHBS, contact Michael at [email protected].

These are the fun folks that lead your campers in bible study throughout the year! We’re so thankful for how they continue to “Grow in Love” during the year through leading bible study!
