Introduction

Common Core Code X is a comprehensive English Language Arts curriculum for students in Grades 6–8.

Code X Digital is a component of Common Core Code X that allows students and teachers to use eBook versions of the Common Core Code X Student Edition and Teacher’s Edition and Assessment Guide. In addition to multimedia and downloadable resources, the eBooks in the Code X Digital library contain tools for use with interactive whiteboards (IWBs).

Code X Digital and Scholastic Achievement Manager

Code X Digital requires a SAM installation hosted on a Scholastic data center. Scholastic Achievement Manager (SAM) is the data management system for Scholastic Education technology programs. Districts, schools, teachers, classes, and students must have profiles in SAM to access the technology programs and related digital resources. This information is server-based and accessed by students and teachers over a network.

Students and teachers are enrolled in Code X Digital through the SAM and access the program through their respective access screens.

When the SAM installation is hosted at the Scholastic data center, the programs, profiles, and data are housed on a server maintained and hosted on a Scholastic data center, rather than a locally installed district server.

For more information on establishing a SAM installation hosted by Scholastic, contact Scholastic Customer Service at 1-877-234-READ.

For more information on setting up a SAM installation hosted on a Scholastic data center, see Getting Started with Scholastic Hosting Services and the Scholastic Hosting Services User’s Guide at the Scholastic Education Product Support website (page 43).

The representative activates licenses through SAM Connect.

The Toolbar

Notes

Clicking the Notes button on the Toolbar activates the Notes tool. The Notes tool allows users to insert notes and Web links into the book and display them in a separate browser window.

To place a note in the book, click the Notes button. The cursor appears as a small note icon. Move the cursor to where the note should be placed, and click the icon to open the Notes Screen.

Type the text of the note in the main window. To link to another page or URL, enter the page number or URL in the Link field and click Create Link. After creating the link, change it by clicking Edit Link (note that the Create Link and Edit Link button toggles, depending on whether a URL is in the Link field).

When finished, click Save to save the note. The note icon is now visible on the page. Rolling over the note reveals the text of the note. Clicking the note opens the note in the Notes Screen.

To delete the note, click Delete. To close the Notes Screen at any time, click the “X” at the top right corner of the screen.
