DGD16-014 Canberra Hospital and Health Services Procedure Emergency Response Plans – Code Brown External Disaster Purpose The aim of this plan is to set out the arrangements that are to be adopted by the Canberra Hospital & Health Services (CHHS) in the management of a major incident or emergency in the ACT or affecting the ACT. To provide the CHHS with guidance on how to mobilise resources in a co‐ordinated approach to achieve: Rapid and appropriate response activation; Optimal situational care for all pre‐incident in‐patients and arriving casualties; Clearly understood command and control structures; Clearly understood communication mechanisms; Clearly defined roles for all staff and partner organisations; Action cards for all staff involved; Appropriate and partner‐shared preparation and training; Key locations and clear roles of key external agencies; Transition back to normal business with minimal disruption; Debriefing of individuals, departments and the organisation; and A formalised reporting mechanism to the Health Directorate. The Canberra Hospital & Health Services Code Brown Emergency Management Plan aligns with the Australian Capital Territory Health Emergency Plan (HEP) and uses Australian Standard AS4083‐2010 planning for emergencies‐Health care facilities as its foundation. The CHHS Code Brown Emergency Management Plan describes how CHHS: Processes regarding notification of mass casualty/external disaster incidents; and Response and activation processes thereafter.

Scope

It is the responsibility of each staff member to make themselves familiar with the evacuation plans and assembly points for the area in which they work. Local information is provided on all evacuation plans displayed throughout your building.
