History

The cocker spaniel breed is divided into two seperatre groups, the American cocker spaniel and the English cocker spaniel. These dogs were originally bred and used for hunting in the United Kingdom. They primarily hunted the Eurasian woodcock, which is part of how they got their name. Their origin is unknown but they are mentioned in 14th century writings.
