What  we  believed  science  was

•  “  science  is  hard  ”  •  “  the  GTP  program  was  lit  ”  •  “  3D  prinFng…                                                                                              ”

How  is  this  project  related  to  a  real  world  problem?

•  This  project  relates  to  a  real  world  problem  because  being  unable  to  hear  is  a  big  problem  and  a  challenge  for  people  who  experience  it.

•  Being  unable  to  hear,  you  can  face  many  different  challenges  such  as…  •  This  puts  people  who  can  not  hear  in  danger  and  there  are  many  other

examples  of  everyday  things  that  they  would  find  difficult  to  do.    •  It  would  be  great  if  physicists  could  develop  the  cochlea  ear  implant  further  to

give  people  who  can  not  hear  something  that  we  take  for  granted  everyday.

The  project  goal  •  Our   goal   is   to   develop   3   dimensional   models   that  represent   systems   such   as   the   ear   and   assist   in   other  medical   applicaFons   by   using   advanced   technology   such  as  3D  prinFng  and  X-‐Ray  tomography.

• We   want   to   learn   about   how   3D   prinFng   and   X-‐Ray  tomography   are   used   to   help   people   with   a   hearing  deficiencies   to   hear   voices   and  music.   It   is   important   to  learn   these   things   because  we  want   to   learn   about   how  science  can  contribute  to  peoples’  everyday  lives  and  the  world   around   us.   We   also   want   to   learn   the   different  areas  of  physics  and  what  other  professions  physicist  are  needed   in   that   are   not   directly   related   to   physics   or  science.

Cochlea:  A  cavity  of  the  inner  ear  which  produces  nerve  impulses  in  response  to  sound  vibraFons.      Cochlea  implants:  A  device  that  can  be  surgically  implanted  into  a  person's  cochlea  to  sFmulate  hearing.      X-‐Ray  Tomography:  Is  a  3D  image  of  an  object  that  is  constructed  by  a  computer  from  a  series  of  images.    3D  prinFng:  Is  a  device  that  produces  objects  in  layers  to  create  a  3D  structure.

Why  Should  We  care  about  the  Research  here?  We  should  care  about  researchers  as  they  help  to  make  our  world  a  be[er  place.

How  is  it  relevant  to  Community  and  Society?  It  benefits  people  and  their  families  through  the  research  of  cochlea  implants  and  in  it  applicaFon  to  then  help  to  hear.

How  Has  Our  View  of  Science  or  Scien=sts  Changed?  Our  views  of  science  and  scienFsts  have  changed  as  we  have  been  exposed  to  the  many  different  areas  and  aspects  of  science  and  physics.    Through  compleFng  our  experiments  and  research  we  have  seen  the  many  ways  that  science  contributes  to  the  world.

Am  I  capable,  do  I  belong?

•  We   can   see   ourselves   in   the   future   becoming  physicists   or   something   in   that   parFcular   field   of  science.

•  We  believe   that  we   are   capable   of   doing   physics   if  we  put  on  minds  to  it  and  love  the  subject.

•  This   program   has   opened   our   minds   to   the   many  possibiliFes  that  physics  can  give  us.  These  past  few  days  have  helped  us   to   see   the  many  different   jobs  available  to  physicists

What  Have  We  Learnt?  •  How  to  measure  and  read  different  types  of  data  accurately.

•  The  different  ways  data  and  research  is  collected  and  put  together.

•  We  have  learnt  how  to  observe,  collect  and  analyse  reliable  data.

•  Using  different  machines  and  resources  such  as  a  X-‐Ray  tomographer  and  a  3D  printer.

•  How  to  work  and  communicate  as  a  team  and  share  ideas  and  opinions.

•  We  have  also  communicated  with  many  mentors,  scienFsts  and  other  people  that  we  wouldn't  usually  communicate  with.

What  choices  have  opened  up  to  me  In  Possible  Career  Choices?

•  We  have  learnt  how  much  science  can  contributes  to  our  everyday  lives  and  the  world  around  us.  We  have  seen  how  science  and  physics  can  change  peoples’  lives  so  dramaFcally.

•  All  sciences  connect  and  impact  each  other.  We  have  seen  how  important  science  can  be  in  the  field  of  science  and  in  many  different  professions.

•  Throughout  this  program,  we  have  come  to  a  be[er  understanding  of  our  individual  interests  in  science  and  specifically  physics.  From  this  experience,  we  have  see  various  career  pathways  that  may  be  relevant  to  us  in  the  future.

How  has  being  part  of  GTP  changed  my  appreciaFon  for  physical  science?

•  Through  this  program,  we  have  developed  an  extreme  appreciaFon  for  the  effort,  Fme  and  research  that  goes  into  every  aspect  of  physics.

•  Science  is  a  part  of  everything  and  everyone.  It  is  evident  in  society  and  is  a  huge  part  of  the  economy  and  many  other  aspects  of  everyday  life.

•  Science  can  be  pursued  by  anybody  as  long  as  persistence  and  diligence  is  present  and  they  have  a  love  and  passion  for  science.

•  Science  is  not  all  just  about  specific  facts  but  can  actually  be  fun  and  exciFng.  Through  the  GTP  program,  we  have  found  that  science  is  very  fun  and  interesFng  and  you  get  paid  win  the  things  you  research  and  discover.
