• Cocaine is really addictive• There is no cure for effects• Made from leaves of the Coca plant• White powder• Street names- Coke, Snow, C, and Blow

How is it used?• Inhaled through the nose• Dissolved in water and injected into the

blood stream• Used repeatedly to sustain their high

(snorting lasts 15-20 minutes, smoking lasts 5-10 minutes)

• Rubbed onto mucous tissues

What are the effects?Short Term Effects:•Increased body temperatures•Increased heart rate•Increased blood pressure•Constricted blood vessels •Dilated pupils

Long Term Effects:•Depression•Lack of interest in food•Mood swings•Sleeping difficulties•Can lead to death from breathing failure •Bleeding in the brain•Heart attack•Anxiety•Frequent nose bleeds from snorting cocaine

Who is affected?• 78% of 15 year olds and older use cocaine• Cocaine user’s family• Community-teenagers sometimes steal
