WEEKLY UPDATE MARCH 2, 2018 INROADS HELPS STUDENT LAND INTERNSHIP A few days ago, senior mass media communications major Akina Olloway had a one-on-one career coaching session with INROADS Program Director Mr. Calvin Littlejohn. He reviewed Akina’s resume and suggested numerous improvements. Aſter revising her resume, she promptly applied for an internship at Chicago Adventure erapy. In less than 24 hours, the organization offered Akina the internship. Talladega College President Dr. Billy C. Hawkins is pictured with the dynamic Chicago native, who is a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. He states that Talladega is “very fortunate” to have a resource such as INROADS. Career Pathways Director Ms. Sherissa Gaitor says, “Akina is excited about this opportunity and the assistance she received from Mr. Littlejohn.” Last summer, senior psychology major Frantz Pinet saw an opportunity and seized it. He entered the Coca-Cola UNITED 2017 ‘Pay It Forward’ Internship Contest. To his delight, he won a week-long internship that exposed him to operations management, packaging, pricing, event planning and philanthropy. “I learned so much about how things are done at Coca-Cola,” said Frantz, who encourages students to apply for the 2018 internship. Applicants must be undergraduate college students, age 18 or older, and enrolled full-time at a participating HBCU. Internships are available in Birmingham, AL., and in Montgomery, AL. Applicants must submit an essay, a photo and a 1-2 minute video. For more information, contact Mr. Walvid King at [email protected]. COCA-COLA SEEKING INTERNS Practically every student who visits College Nurse Stacy T. Fincher’s Shores Hall office hears about the flu shot. “I always remind students that Walgreens has provided the college with over 100 free flu shot vouchers, and the Talladega Health Department has free flu shots on Fridays,” she states. “I give each student who comes through my door a bottle of hand sanitizer, and I talk about the importance of covering your mouth when you cough.” Ms. Fincher also talks to students about physical fitness, STDs and mental health. “Alabama is second in the nation for obesity. So I talk about nutrition, and I also tell students about free screenings for STDS and HIV/Hepatitis C. Mental health is another important issue. April is mental health awareness month, and we’ll have speakers addressing suicide, stress, and depression.” HEALTH MATTERS Vote for Talladega https://retoolyourschool.com/ 1
