Range of Coating Applications

For thermoplastic materials Create compounded resins with additives to optimize material properties Cast materials into 25–1000 µm thick films Extrude materials as a 2–500 µm thick coating on paper or plastic webs

For water-soluble materials Gravure coat on paper or plastic webs at wet thicknesses of 0.2–2.0 cc/sq ft Slot die coat on paper, plastic, or metal webs at wet thicknesses of 1.5–10 cc/sq ft Slide hopper coat on paper or plastic webs at wet thicknesses of 6–20 cc/sq ft Curtain coat on paper or plastic webs at wet thicknesses of 6–20 cc/sq ft Rod/blade coat on paper webs to your specifications

For non-water-soluble materials Gravure coat on paper or plastic webs at wet thicknesses of 0.2–2.0 cc/sq ft Slot die coat on paper, plastic, or metal webs at wet thicknesses of 1.5–10 cc/sq ft Spray coat on paper or plastic webs

Small scale Gravure coat on paper or plastic webs (5" widths with as little as 300 g of solution) Slot die coat on paper, plastic, or metal webs (4.5"–9" widths with as little as 300 g of solution) Slide hopper coat on paper or plastic webs (4” widths with as little as 100 g of solution)

Intermediate scale Gravure coat on paper or plastic webs (9.75", 13.5", or 16" widths with 5 gallons of solution) Slot die coat on paper or plastic webs (9", 13", or 16" widths with 5 gallons of solution) Curtain coat on paper or plastic webs (9.5" width with 5 gallons of solution) Rod/blade coat on paper webs (16" width with 20 gallons of solution)


Scale of Coating Services Final manufacturing Options

For thermoplastic materials:Up to 16” wide films can be made on intermediate-scale pilot machines

Wider format films will need to be made by a non-Kodak coating facility

For aqueous or solvent solutions:

Up to 16” wide films can be made on Kodak’s pilot facilities Gravure coat at speeds up to 1000+ fpm Slot die coat at speeds up to 500+ fpm Rod/blade coat at speeds up to 2000+ fpm

Up to 60” wide films can be made on Kodak’s production facilities Gravure coat on machines in both Rochester, NY and Fort Collins,Col Slot die coat on a machine in Weatherford, Okla Curtain/Slide coat on machines in Rochester, NY

Physical property testingPhysical property tests let you evaluate the performance characteristics of your materials. These tests are conducted in precisely controlled environments using rigorously calibrated test fixtures. All our tests can be run at a range of temperature and humidity conditions.
