1. Under inflated tires can cost a driver 14% in fuel economy. Starting soon, California will require properly inflated tires before a vehicle can pass its bi-annual smog inspection. Stop in for a FREE tire inspection.

2. Your vehicle’s alignment affects tire wear if the wheels do not roll evenly down the road. Remember the last shopping cart you pushed with the floppy wheels and how nice it was to get a cart that rolled smoothly. Fuel economy will be affected if the vehicle’s wheels roll unevenly.

3. Check Engine Lights usually come on for one of two reasons: Drivability (rough running) or emission’s (smog-related). A diagnostic test can be performed to determine the cause of the light, and early servicing can save money over costly repairs if not addressed. 4. Dirty Air Filter can choke air access into your computer-controlled sensors, which can cause a loss of power and will steal miles from every gallon.

5. Coolant Leaks can be caused by brittle or soft hoses, radiator leaks, and thermostat issues to name but a few; issues that can cause engine and/or other component failure. We can perform a pressure check to start.

6. Struts and Shocks hold the tires firmly on the ground. Worn parts cause longer braking, and wear to tires and/or suspension parts.

7. Worn Brakes. Brake pads that are low can cause damage to other components by the build up of excessive heat while stopping. Proper rear brake adjustment helps ensure even braking and long brake life. Start with a complete brake inspection.

8. Weak Coolant. Coolant has additives that lubricate the water pump and inhibit rust buildup in the cooling system, saving money. Change yearly or as needed.

9. Oil Leaks can cause engine damage by lack of lubrica-tion and overheating. The leaks can cause damage to other parts on the car. If you see oil on the ground it’s time to have it checked.

WHAT IS THAT WEIRD LIGHT ON MY DASHBOARD?We answer a number of questions for a number of issues at Coastline Auto Care, but one of the most commonly asked questions is, “What is this light on my dash?”

There are a number of indicator lights that can come on periodically, but almost every light you see on the dash, that does not go off once the vehicle is started, requires attention: Even if it has stayed on, but is now off.

The light shown above is a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) indicator light which indicates a tire pressure imbalance. This could indicate low pressure from not checking tire pressure, a leak in one of the tires, or a TPMS sensor malfunction. The qualified personnel at Coastline Auto Care centers can easily check this, air your tires to the proper inflation, and reset the light if required.
