The Government of South Australia’s Coast Park initiative aims to improve community access and enjoyment of our beaches through the establishment of a continuous 70 kilometre coastal shared-use path along the metropolitan coastline. The Coast Park has been progressively implemented by State Government in partnership with local councils since 1992 and the section between Grange and Semaphore Park is one of the few remaining links still to complete. Following extensive consultation under the Linear Parks Act 2006, a linear park has been established between Third Avenue, Semaphore Park and the northern edge of the Wara Wayingga-Tennyson Dunes Conservation Reserve (Stage One). A nal design has now been approved for the shared-use path and associated landscaping. The nal design considers feedback from local residents and environmental groups and seeks to minimise the impact on the dune system, native vegetation and local fauna, while maximising community benet. The path will be a hard surface, consistent with other sections of Coast Park. Importantly, the shared-use path will increase access to this part of our coastline to be used and enjoyed by people of all abilities. Construction is expected to begin in early 2022 and will be managed by the Department for Infrastructure and Transport, which will work closely with all stakeholders. Preliminary investigations for a possible Stage Two – a proposed Linear Park between the southern edge of the Wara Wayingga-Tennyson Dunes Conservation Reserve and Terminus Street, Grange – are still ongoing and, should that stage progress, will be subject to community consultation. We will provide updates on both the timelines for the construction of Stage One and progress on a possible Stage Two as this information becomes available.

Coast Park Stage OneSemaphore Park to West Lakes ShoreThird Avenue to Wara Wayingga-Tennyson Dunes Conservation Reserve

The Linear Park will:

• Improve community access and enjoyment of South Australia’s beautiful beaches

• Facilitate exercise and outdoor activities by the community

• Ensure the best environmental and community outcomes are achieved

• Provide connectivity to beach access paths and to the local road network

• Establish, maintain and preserve the area as a world-class asset to be used and enjoyed as a public park for the benet of present and future generations.

The Government of South Australia’s CoastPark initiative aims to improve communityaccess and enjoyment of our beaches throughthe establishment of a continuous 70 kilometrecoastal shared-use path along the metropolitancoastline.
