Coal exports from Baltimore, Hampton Roads, Mobile, Houston, and New Orleans totaled 5,851,482 MT in October 2021. This total is above September 2021 by 1,008,353 MT. This months’ exports were above October 2020 exports by 1,599,409 MT with thermal coal exports increasing by 958,536 MT and met exports increasing by 640,873 MT. Total exports were above the 12-month average by 419,477 MT.
East Coast terminals – CNX, CSX, Norfolk Southern, and Pier IX experienced increases in exports of 210,408 MT, 274,688 MT, 59,146 MT, and 482,620 MT, respectively, as compared to October 2020. DTA experienced a decrease in coal exports of 144,096 MT, compared to October 2020. In the Gulf, HBT, McDuffie, CMT, Midstream Buoys, and UBT all had increases of 13,354 MT, 110,046 MT, 163,467 MT, 231,706 MT and 198,070 MT, respectively.
In October, the Far East received the largest shares of exports from Baltimore, Hampton Roads, Mobile and New Orleans at 2,496,962 MT, a 16.90% increase over September 2021. Northern Europe received the second largest shares of exports at 2,101,309 MT, a 155.11% increase from the previous month, and the Americas received the third largest shares of exports with 826,558 MT, a 7.69% decrease over September 2021.
