Each home in the U.S. has about 50 light sockets, some of which use decorative or ‘specialty’ bulb shapes such as globes, candles, or reflectors. The best way to fill each one of these sockets is with an energy efficient, ENERGY STAR certified specialty bulb. Decorative or specialty light bulbs that earn the ENERGY STAR label retain the light appearance you expect, last at least 15 times longer than incandescents, and save about $55 in electricity costs over their lifetime. HOW TO PREPARE FOR A TORNADO:

• Stay tuned to local radio and TV stations.• Watch the weather and be prepared to take shelter immediately.• Designate a spot in your home as a shelter, and practice with everyone in your family.• Make sure everyone understands the siren warning system in the area.• Mark clearly where first-aid kit and fire extinguishers are located.

SIGNS OF A TORNADO:• Dark green sky• Rotating wall cloud• Large hail• Loud roar, like a freight train

TORNADO TIPS:Do you know what to do if you’re in the path of a tornado?

Whether you’re inside or outside, with or without shelter, it’s important to have a plan in place before and after the storm hits.

What does this mean? It means you have a say in who runs your cooperative. A big say!

Your board is legally responsible for the actions of your electric cooperative. The men and women you elect to serve on the board are dedicated, hard-working people who care because they, too, are members, just like you.

Elections take place during the business section of the Annual Member Meeting, which will be held Saturday, September 26, 2020. It’s your co-op. Let your voice be heard. Ballots will be mailed in early September.

Directors on SCI REMC’s board have many functions and responsibilities, including:

• Managing general business administration

• Employing a general manager to direct the operation of the co-op

• Adopting short and long-term strategic plans for the co-op

• Establishing and maintaining legal entities

• Setting rate and fee schedules

• Reporting to members on the financial condition of the co-op • Establishing controls to ensure effective operations

SCI REMC offers a Live Line Demonstration for all safety programs for elementary through high schools, fire and police departments, farm safety or any organization interested in promoting safety. Power line safety is one of the most serious and deadly issues a utility lineman has to face, and it affects people in the community who may come in contact with live power wires. Visit www.sciremc.com/liveline to book our Live Line Demo!
