We are passionate about our aim to develop a happy, exciting, caring andsuccessful college where every student exceeds their potential and where academic excellence and pastoral support are equally valued.
There is much more to this College than statistics and pass rates as we seekto develop and educate the whole person. However, it is right that we shouldcelebrate the success and hard work of our students and our teachers - weare immensely proud of everything that they have achieved.
Congratulations class of 2014!

I have really found my time at Newman enriching both in and outside the classroom. I have loved the
fact that I have been able to study as many languages as I wanted and this in turn has given me the chance to go on a number of exchanges including France and Germany, plusa trip to Berlin! I found it a really friendly place to study and would highly recommend it - plus the food choices aregreat too!

I have loved my experience at Newman! It has provided me with many opportunities including being Charity
Officer on the Student Union and the chance to establish, witha friend, the Economics and Politics Society. I was drawn tothe College because it has a campus that isn’t too big whichhelps to create a more intimate and community friendly environment, plus the grounds are really nice. If you’re willingto work hard Newman provides the whole package: Great academic support, excellent extra-curricular activities andpreparation for life after College.

When deciding on a College I needed somewhere that felt less like school and more like college so
that I felt better prepared for University; Newman certainly did this. There is a real sense of communityhere even though there are a high number of students;especially in the subject areas and friendship groups. When I arrived I didn’t know anyone but within a week I had met so many like-minded people who I have remained good friends with. I have enjoyed my timehere so much and it has most definitely prepared me forfurther education.

Newman came highly recommended by friends who had studied here previously because of its great campus and
excellent support. Over my time here the staff have alwaysbeen friendly, approachable and knowledgeable and I havebeen provided with many opportunities outside the classroomto help further my subject interests. This has included beingpart of the Medical Society which was really beneficial considering my subject choice for university. The College andthe grounds provide a calm, studious working environment.

Cardinal Newman College has beenranked in the top 1% of all schools andcolleges nationally by the A Level Performance System (ALPS) for Valueadded. Arguably the most importantmeasure as this compares the GCSEscores with A Level and BTEC scoresand measures the distance travelled during a student’s time at sixth form.
The Schools and Colleges league tableswere released in January 2014 and canbe found on the Department for Educationwebsite.
Cardinal Newman has also beaten all theother local, non-selective, sixth forms andFE colleges in the area in another measure, which is the points per student measure.
The points per student indicator is oftenconsidered to be the most important of allof the tables as it shows the full packagethat our students leave with. It is also theonly measure universities use when offering places and all students’ achievements are included.
For more information or to view the fulllist of schools and colleges please visit theDepartment for Education website whereyou will see Cardinal Newman placed asthe top sixth form college in the region, only coming behind selective schools and sixth forms (i.e. those who have anentrance exam).
