MISSION

The mission of the

Children’s Museum of

Denver at Marsico Campus

is to create extraordinary

experiences that champion

the wonder and joy

of childhood.

What a year it was! Through a whirlwind of designing, planning, remodeling

and constructing, we accomplished some amazing milestones in fiscal year

2015 (July 1, 2014 – June 30, 2015). It was a year devoted to infrastructure, both

literally and figuratively, as we prepared for the completion of the expanded

Children’s Museum of Denver at Marsico Campus.

As you will see throughout our Annual Report, we made huge strides

programmatically and in preparation for campus expansion. A BIG cause

for celebration was the opening of Joy Park. Joy Park introduced a world of

climbing, splashing, digging, exploring, zip lining and fort building within an

expansive 1-acre space that gives our guests the opportunity to experience

nature firsthand. Joy Park also served as a great preview of the exceptional

exhibits and programs to come within the expanded Children’s Museum.

Thank you to our friends, neighbors, stakeholders and donors that supported

us as we headed toward expansion and who continued to invest in our ongoing

efforts. As we embark on an exciting future, we are overwhelmingly grateful

to this remarkable community for championing our growth.

In June 2015, we opened the first phase

of our expansion, Joy Park. The 30,000

square-foot outdoor adventure includes

zip lines, forts, castle ruins, sand dunes,

straw bales, waterfalls, a hammock grove

and much more. The magnificent space is

open year-round, providing abundant

opportunities for heart-pumping physical

activity and introducing young explorers to

the geographical wonders that make Colorado

such a wonderful place to live and play.

**Amount reflects a planned one-year operating deficit due to: 1) reduced attendance and earned revenue (birthday

parties and other fee-based group programs) during expansion construction; 2) need for additional staffing capacity

to develop educational curricula for post-expansion experiences and exhibits; and 3) increased depreciation expense

to support the advance opening of the new outdoor experience.

A very special thank you to our 2015 Birthday Bash Committee! On Friday, May 29, 2015, over 600 philanthropic party-goers attended our annual Birthday Bash gala, Anything Can Happen, Anything Can Be. Themed around the collective works of Shel Silverstein, the event raised $280,000 to support the Children’s Museum.

Led by Event Chairs Erica Bissette and Crista Martin, our incredible Bash committee spent several months and hundreds of hours planning and organizing to make this event a huge success.
