ABOUT PORTLAND, OR
Portland, the Portland Metropolitan Area’s most-populous city, is located at the confluence of the Columbia and Willamette Rivers and is the second largest city in the Pacific Northwest, just three hours south by car of leader Seattle, Washingon. The Portland Metropolitan Area now contains nearly 2.4 million people. With projections of population and wage growth at 1.66% and 4.68% respectively, the ‘City of Roses’ ranked Number 17 on Forbes’ List of America’s Fastest-Growing Cities in 2018. The Portland Metropolitan Area now represents more than one-half of Oregon’s population. Steady booming growth in recent years has allowed for a significant uptick of construction, both commercial and residential, within Multnomah County.
Across the Willamette River from downtown is Portland’s growing Eastside, serviced by multiple Interstate freeways. Interstate 84, an East-West route proceeding through three states, is Portland’s second most traveled freeway. Interstate 205 serves as a bypass route for Interstate 5 between Oregon and Washington and travels along the East side of both cities and their suburbs. Portland’s Hazelwood neighborhood is one of the largest neighborhoods in Portland and is bordered by Montavilla and Parkrose. The largest employer in the area is Adventist Hospital, a 302-bed hopsital that serves Portland’s Eastside. The Gateway Park and Ride Transit Center, located near the Interstate 84 and Interstate 205 interchange, is a TriMet and MAX station for the blue, green and red lines. The blue line proceeds to Gresham, the green line proceeds to Clackamas and the red line proceeds to Portland International Airport. Neighborhoods serviced by this station include Hazelwood, Parkrose, Montavilla and Woodlawn Park.
