    SPONSORSHIP

The club is always looking for sponsorship. If anyone has contacts with or knows of any business

houses/corporations that may be interested in sponsorship please contact the club’s Secretary.

Our current major sponsorship packages are:

    SPONSORSHIP PACKAGES

⬐Gold $2,000 – Includes large logo on club shirt sleeve and back of club singlet ⬐Silver $1,000 - Includes small logo on club shirt sleeve and back of club singlet ⬐Bronze $500 – Includes small logo on back of club singlet

In addition to these sponsorship packages, we may also be looking for carnival sponsors each season where

we are the host of either club carnivals or regional carnivals.

The Wagga Wagga Swimming Club acknowledges the valuable support of all of our sponsors.

Please support the businesses that support Swimming in Wagga Wagga.

    FUNDRAISING

In addition to sponsorship, WWSC relies heavily on fundraising to help make the club successful.

In order to give our swimmers the best opportunity to succeed, each family’s assistance is required to raise

    extra funds.

    Ways of doing this include:

    Raffle sales

    Carnivals

    BBQ sales

    Merchandise sales

    Equipment hire.

The clubs major fundraiser is the running of school carnivals throughout February and March.

Parental help is essential for these carnivals to operate. One of the best ways to lend a hand is to become an

accredited official. Courses are available to complete online and assessments are undertaken on pool deck

    (see page 11).

You do not need to be a part of the committee to help run our club… Many hands make light work!

  • 11

PARENTAL COMMITMENT TO WAGGA WAGGA SWIMMING CLUB An integral part of having a strong and committed successful swimming club is parents who get involved in the

officiating side of swimming. Theses accredited parent officials are vital so that WWSC club nights can be approved,

with those times swum becoming ‘official’ for entry qualifications and records. Additionally, WWSC will be able to

provide accredited officials at area carnivals as well as hosting our own carnivals in a professional manner. There are

many areas of the officiating side of swimming that parents can become accredited in. WWSC is fortunate to have two

current swimming referees, trainers and assessors - Kayleen and Tom Murphy.

The following pathway is suggested and all parents are strongly encouraged to complete steps 1 to 5 as a minimum.

    1. Obtain a NSW Working with Children Check. This is completed online using the following link.

    http://www.kidsguardian.nsw.gov.au/child-safe-organisations/working-with-children-check

Once completed you attend the RTA now called RMS for a 100% identification check. Your application is processed

and you are informed of you WWC number by email. Once you have your Working with Children Number, please

forward to – Tom Murphy at [email protected]

    2. Complete the Australian Institute of Sport – Introductory Level Officiating General Principles. This is obtained via the following hyperlink

    https://learning.ausport.gov.au/auth/login/?returnUrl=%2F

You will have to register then find and complete the Introductory Level Officiating General Principles.

    3. General Introduction Have a good read of the NSW Swimming’s website https://nsw.swimming.org.au/ in particular those documents under

the heading Officials & Volunteers. This section mentions the Area Technical Swimming Committee Coordinator

(ATSCC). For our Southern Inland Swimming Association, the ATSCC is Kayleen Murphy.

    4. It is recommended that the modules be completed in the following order: Time Keeper/Chief Time Keeper

    Clerk of the Course (Marshalling)

    Check Starter

It is strongly recommended that you read the notes and undertake the training exercises to obtain a comprehensive

understanding of the role and function. Once you have completed the training exercises forward them to Kayleen or

    Tom for marking and feedback.

    5. Complete the NSW Swimming online modules for: Timekeeper,

    Chief Time Keeper,

    Check Starter

    Clerk of the Course (Marshalling).

Once these online courses have been successfully completed to finish the accreditation process you will need to be

assessed. The assessments for the aforementioned modules can be completed at club nights and/or area carnivals.

    6. Those parents that wish to undertake further technical accreditation can complete the following modules. Starter,

    Recorder,

    Judges of Stroke,

    Inspector of Turns.

    7. Once a parent has successfully completed all modules they can apply to undertake Referee training. This is coordinated through the ATSCC. At this stage, the Refereeing accreditation comprises of the candidate

having reached accreditation in all of the previous mentioned modules, completion of a Referee training

exercises, completion of the Referee module, written Referee’s exam and two on pool-deck Referee

    assessments at 2 area carnivals.

    TYPES OF RECORDS

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS Club Championship records remain an important and historic part of the club, with several of these records

dating as far back as 2003.

Records exist across all age groups and all events, in both male and female - these are listed as Age Records.

An additional set of records is kept for the fastest overall times in all championship events, in both male and

female – these are listed as Open Records.

All Club Championships records can only be attempted and broken during Club Championship events.

All records can be found on club website.

CLUB RECORDS - LONG COURSE Long Course Club Records are kept separate from Club Championships records and can be attempted and

broken by any WWSC financial member at any Swimming Australia or Swimming NSW/ACT long course

    meet or club night event.

These records were introduced in October 2018 to recognise some of the great times our swimmers are

achieving in long course events outside of championships.

As a starting point for these records, existing club night and club championship records have been added as

the initial records. Times from past carnivals have not been included but those from carnivals held after

October 1, 2018 will now be recognised.

All records can be found on club website.

CLUB RECORDS - SHORT COURSE Short Course Club Records were introduced at the commencement of the short course season in 2018.

As there are no existing club records for any short course events, all initial records are times from the 2018

    season only.

These records can be attempted and broken by any WWSC financial member at any Swimming Australia or

Swimming NSW/ACT short course meet or club night event.

All records can be found on club website.

RIVERINA RECORDS Riverina records can be attempted and broken by any WWSC financial member at any Riverina Zone

Carnival, during both long course and short course seasons. Certificates may be presented.

SISA RECORDS Southern Inland swimming records can be attempted and broken by any WWSC financial member at either

the SISA LC Championship Meet held in February each year or the SISA SC Championships Meet in

August each year. Certificates may be presented.

    ENTERING CARNIVALS AND REPRESENTATIVE MEETS

SISA (SOUTHERN INLAND SWIMMING ASSOCIATION) MEETS WWSC Swimmers are able to represent their club at any local SISA carnival held across the region

during both long course and short course seasons.

Qualifying times are not necessary to enter these meets.

A calendar of events and links to information can be found on the SISA website.

    Entry is via Swim Central.

These meets are particularly good for younger swimmers looking for race practice and for all swimmers to have fun and meet friends from other regions while improving their own personal best

    times in the pool.

SISA CHAMPIONSHIPS These are Regional Championship meets that bring together the three zones of the Southern Inland

Region – Riverina, South West & Murray.

WWSC Swimmers are able to represent their club at these Championships which are held during both long course and short course seasons.

Programs and information can be found on the SISA website.

LC Championships also incorporate Speedo Sprint heats.

Qualifying times are not necessary to enter these meets.

    Entry is via Swim Central

SPEEDO SPRINTS Speedo Sprints are for junior swimmers age 13 and under.

They include 50m sprints of all four strokes.

Regional heats are held as part of SISA LC Championships each February.

The top four fast swimmers from each region, in each age group, progress to the Speedo State finals in Sydney in March.

Regional Relay teams also compete in the finals in Sydney.

SISA shirts can be purchased by those competing in Sydney and SISA caps are presented to all new representatives.

Entries for heats are via Swim Central and entries for finals are completed by the SISA Development Convenor.

BROPHY WWSC Swimmers may qualify to represent the Riverina Zone at the Brophy Meet held at the AIS in

    Canberra each March.

Brophy Meet consists of 50m events and relays only.

To be eligible, swimmer must compete at a Riverina Zone long course carnival throughout the summer. Carnivals include; Leeton, Deniliquin, Narrandera and Wagga Wagga.

Swimmers will need to be one of the first two fastest 50m swimmers in each age group ( age on the day of Brophy).

Swimmers will be advised of team selections via email.

Online entry is not available for this meet.

Swimmer and Spectator tickets need to be purchased prior to the event.

SISA Shirts and purple Riverina Representative Caps can be purchased to wear during the competition.

NSW COUNTRY REGIONALS There are three NSW Country Regional events held on the same weekend across three different

country towns in January each year.

The competition is open to all affiliated members of NSW Country Clubs.

No entry qualifying times are applicable with the exception of some longer distance events.

Restrictions are placed on any swimmer who has won a medal in any State Championship (Country, State Age or State Open) in either LC or SC from the February prior. These swimmers may compete

but are ineligible for medals in that stroke.

    Entry is via Swim Central.

These meets are a great opportunity to compete at a higher level, without travelling to the city areas.

NSW COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS NSW Country Long Course Championships are considered to be one of the pinnacle events of the

summer season for all regional clubs.

WWSC Swimmers may qualify to represent their club at these championships.

These Championships are held at SOPAC in Sydney.

The competition is open to all affiliated members of NSW Country Clubs who obtain the necessary qualifying times within the advised timeframe.

These Championships are held in February each year and include the historic March Past, where all clubs parade around the 50m pool showcasing their club colours and team pride. (See page 28)

    Entry is via Swim Central.

NSW Country Short Course Championships are held in July each year and although there is no March Past, this Meet should still be seen as a prestigious event and a great achievement if

    qualifying to compete.

At both of these Championships, the representative cap should be worn whilst competing. The traditional club shirt should be worn by all swimmers whilst on the podium and collecting medals.

NSW STATE AGE/OPEN/MC CHAMPIONSHIPS WWSC Swimmers may qualify to represent their club at these championships.

These Championships are all held at SOPAC in Sydney.

Competitions are open to all affiliated members of NSW Clubs who obtain the qualifying times within the advised timeframe.

These Championships are held in both long course and short course seasons, with separate competitions for Senior and Junior age groups.

    Entry is via Swim Central.

WWSC recognises these events as being an elite representative level and swimmers who qualify and compete are rewarded by being presented with a special State Team shirt, which should be worn at

the championships and whilst on the podium and collecting medals.

    .

AUSTRALIAN AGE/OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS WWSC Swimmers aged 12 & over may qualify to represent their club at these championships.

Competitions are open to all affiliated members of Australian Clubs who obtain the qualifying times within the advised timeframe.

    Entry is via Swim Central.

These Championships are held at alternating venues around Australia each season.

WWSC recognises those who qualify for these championships as being the club’s highest achievers and tracksuits are presented to those competing to wear during the event and whilst on the podium

    and collecting medals.

Live meet results can also be found on the SNSW website during meets via the live results tab (for Sydney Meets only) or via apps such as Meet Mobile and SwimMate.

Local meet results can be found via the SISA website once the files have been uploaded.

Individual swimmer results can be accessed via Swim Central

    PARADE OF COMPETITORS

At the NSW Country LC Championships there is a parade of competitors. The following rules should be

    noted:

The parade is open to all clubs with competitors at the meet.

The Parade is held before the commencement of session 3.

If the club is represented by six or more members, they are considered for the Speedo Trophy.

If the club is represented by less than six members, they are eligible for the Small Teams Trophy.

Members of each club are to be uniformly dressed. Clothing is limited to regulation swimwear, club tracksuit, T-shirt, shorts and/or skirt. Sashes and towels are not to be worn. Appropriate headgear

may be worn and footwear is recommended.

No form of beat is permitted by drum or voice.

Each team may carry their flag in addition to one member carrying a name plate provided by SNSW.

Clubs intending to take part must advise the Technical Manager during the session prior to the parade, by the time nominated that day.

Team are to assemble half an hour before the advertised start time, at a place appointed by the Technical Manager outside the pool area.

Teams march in alphabetical order of club names.

Suitable marching music for the parade will be provided.

Each team will be announced on entry to the pool deck and teams will march around the pool in full view of spectators.

The teams will be judged by a panel of three judges for neatness, suitability and uniformity of dress, and for deportment, in accordance with a point score system.

CARNIVAL PROCEDURES AND TECHNICAL RULES – SISA

    1. MARSHALLING: Competitors must report to the Marshalling Area immediately their event is

    called.

    2. METHOD OF STARTING ALL EVENTS

The Check Starter shall place competitors in their lane at one half paces behind the starting position.

    The procedures will then be:

    (a) A whistle blast, at which the competitors take their position on the blocks;

    (b) The Starter’s command, “take your marks”;

    (c) Starting Signal.

After command (b) the competitor shall remain stationary until the starting signal.

    3. FINISH: Competitors must remain in their correct lanes at the finish of each event until told to leave

the water, which must be by the side of the pool.

    4. Remember the “magic word” when asking for your time.

    5. FALSE STARTS: Any swimmer starting before the starting signal will be disqualified. In the event

of a false start, there is a second starting signal, and a false start rope will be dropped.

    6. SOME POINTS TO REMEMBER - TOUCHING THE WALL

    (a) In all events other than Breaststroke or Butterfly stroke, a swimmer when TURNING shall

make physical contact with the end of the pool or course. The turn must be made from the wall and it is not

permitted to take a stride or step from the bottom of the pool.

    (b) In Breaststroke when touching at the TURN, the touch must be made with both hands

simultaneously, but not necessarily at the same level. At the FINISH, the touch must be made with both

hands simultaneously on the same level with shoulders in horizontal position hands must now be apart also.

    (c) In Butterfly when TOUCHING at the TURN or on FINISHING the race, the touch shall be

made with both hands simultaneously on the same level with shoulders in the horizontal position.

    (d) In Backstroke

    (i) The race - the swimmer must be on their back at all times except when executing a

    turn.

(ii) Swimming submerged - a swimmer may be completely submerged for a distance of

not more than fifteen (15) metres after the start and each turn. At that point (15m) the head must have

    broken the water.

(iii) The turn - during the turn the shoulders may be turned over the vertical to the breast

but the swimmer must have returned to a position on the back upon leaving the wall. When executing a turn

there must be a touch of the wall with some part of the swimmer’s body.

FINA has interpreted “except when executing the turn” to mean - “any deviation from

the normal Backstroke position in order to execute a continuous turning action”. It is understood that any

swimmer who commences the turn early and then finds it necessary to continue swimming, i.e. stroking

and/or kicking while in the face down position to reach the wall, is liable to disqualification.

(iv) The finish - upon the finish of the race the swimmer must touch the wall while on

their back. Some part of the swimmer must be above the water on touching the wall.

    (e) In Freestyle turning, the swimmer is required to touch the wall of the pool or course with any

part of the body, not necessarily the hand. However, at the FINISH of the race it is necessary for contact to

be made with the wall of the pool.

    7. OUT OF BOUNDS: The concourse, except to approved officials, is out of bounds during swimming

    club meetings.
