    Commanding Officer

    Sergeant Major

    Families and Friends of CLR-15(FWD),

Well another month is under our belt here in Helmand Province, Afghanistan and what a month its been!

Weve been incredibly busy preparing for the onset of the winter months its starting to get REALLY cold at night (down into

the 30s) and were bracing for some rainy days in the months ahead. While we dont expect significant amounts of rain any pre-

cipitation received will turn our sandy roads to mud; making movement a bit slower for our convoys and a lot more challengi ng for

those of us who work outside on a daily basis !We greatly appreciate all the Halloween candy that was sent, as well as all the holiday decorations it really helps us to feel closer

    to home and you all.

Weve had a few visitors come our way there was the American Idol concert two weeks ago; Operation Outback came and served

us steaks, blooming onions and corn on the cob; some professional golfers came out for pointers on our sand game; and Mark

Wahlberg will be here in a few weeks to debut his new movie so theres no shortage of entertainment on those few occasions

when we can break away from the daily grind.

For Thanksgiving, the SgtMaj and I had the opportunity to serve ham, turkey, prime rib, cornbread stuffing, mashed potatoes,

green bean casserole and yams to most of our folks here at Camp Leatherneck. The companies were also able to send some steaks

out to our Marines and Sailors at the forward operating bases weve got some really good pictures of the grills that were manu-

factured for the event and the feedback we received included, best meal Ive had out here and in the top 5 steak dinner sIve had -- EVER !

We welcomed a new surgical company to our family this month and continue to work with our brother and sister Marines from

the East Coast and Hawaii; who have recently arrived in theater and taken over for units redeploying home for the holidays.

The volume of mail is really starting to pick up as the holidays approach were working through all the challenges associated with

that and we greatly appreciate everyones patience with the challenging, difficult and sometime frustrating situations crea ted bydealing with the post office. Were doing our best to smooth things out and address challenges and issues.

Id like to wish you all a happy holiday season. Its not easy being away for the holidays but our morale is high thanks in largepart to the sacrifices you are making at home and the incredible support youre providing.

Thank you for all that you do!

If anyone has any questions or concerns please let me know.

    Semper Fidelis,

    Michael Murchison

Friends, Families, Fellow Marines & Sailors,The month of November was a fast and fabulous month. We celebrated our 235thMarine Corps birthday, Veterans Day and had a grandThanksgiving. This month we had a lot to be thankful for! As we move into another busy month, please be patient with the mail system as wellas the availability of phone lines for your loved one to call home. Your loved ones are kicking butt over here and you should be very proud oftheir accomplishments. The Marines & Sailors of this mighty regiment are absolutely outstanding!!! CLR-15 (FWD) would not be successfulwithout the teamwork that they display on a daily basis. We recently had a combat meritorious promotion board for Sergeant through Lance

Corporal, it was a tough competition. But again your loved ones brought home a gold medal in all ranks.

MERITORIOUS SGT: CPL SHAW, MERITORIOUS CPL: LCPL VALLERO, LCPL WHITESIDE, LCPL DANISH,

LCPL HAGERMAN & LCPL RUGGIERO!!! A Job extremely well done!

Wishing everyone a happy, healthy and warm holiday season.

    Real Meaning of Christmas

For most of us, Christmas has many precious memories of times with our

family, friends and traditional activities. But, what is the real meaning of

Christmas? Well, its not just about decorated trees, food, parties, caroling,

shopping and gifts. It is really about the one gift. The gift that God gave to us,

His son Jesus Christ. The first Christmas was so special because that night Je-

sus, the Son of God, the Savior of man, was born into this world. Because of

that historical event, Christmas is one of the most important holidays forChristians.

One way to keep Christ in Christmas, is begin this holy season right now with

Advent, the four weeks before Christmas. The word Adventcomes from the

Latin advenio, "to come to," and thus refers to the coming of Christ. This

refers, first of all, to our celebration of Christ's birth at the first Christmas; and

second, to the coming of Christ in our lives by His grace through our faith, and

finally, His Second Coming at the end of time. Advent is a sacred tradition, and an essential part of the Christmas season.

The Advent wreath with its four candles, has the themes of hope, peace, joy,

and love. Lighting the Advent candles each week with a prayer and Scripture

reading, can prepare your household for the real meaning of Christmas.

    Blessings,

    Chaplain David R. Bradley

    General Lejeune's Birthday Message

On November 1st. 1921, John A. Lejeune, 13th Commandant of the Marine Corps,

directed that a reminder of the Corps be published by every command, to all Marinesthroughout the globe, on the Birthday of the Corps. Since the day, Marines havecontinued to distinguish themselves on many battlefields and foreign shores, in war andpeace. On this Birthday of the Corps, therefore, in compliance with the will of the13th Commandant, Article 38 United States Marine Corps Manual, Edition of 1921, ispublished as follows:

"On November 10, 1775, a Corps of Marines was created by a resolution of theContinental Congress. Since that date many thousands of men have borne that name

Marine. In memory of them it is fitting that we who are Marines should commemoratethe Birthday of our Corps by calling to mind the glories of its long and illustrioushistory.

The record of our Corps is one which bear comparison with that of the most famousmilitary organizations in the world's history. During 90 of the 146 years of its existencethe Marine Corps has been in action against the Nation's foes. From the Battle of

Trenton to the Argonne, Marines have won foremost honors in war and in the long eraof tranquility at home generation after generation of Marines have grown gray in war

in both hemispheres, and in every corner of the seven seas so that our country and itscitizens might enjoy peace and security.

In every battle and skirmish since the Birth of the Corps, Marines have acquittedthemselves with the greatest distinction, winning new honors on each occasion untilthe term "Marine" has come to signify all that is highest in military efficiency andsoldierly virtue.

This high name of distinction and soldierly repute we who are Marines today havereceived from those who preceded us in the Corps. With it we also received from themthe eternal spirit which has animated our Corps from generation and has long been thedistinguishing mark of Marines in every age. So long as that spirit continues to flourishMarines will be found equal to every emergency in the future as they have been in thepast, and the me of our nation will regard us as worthy successors to the long line ofillustrious men who have served as "Soldiers of the Sea" since the founding of theCorps."

    Happy 235th Birthday Marines

    Headquarters & Service Company

Happy Birthday Michelle Sturgell November 5th 2010.

30 years young and even more beautiful than the day I met you.

Thank you for being the worlds greatest wife and mother. I love and miss you.

    Semper Fi, Staff Sergeant Sturgell.

Families, another month has passed and we are now two months into the deployment.

The Marines and Sailors of Headquarters and Service Company had a busy month. They

continue to show their resiliency with challenges they continuously overcome. The Marines

and Sailors are inspirational, as they often volunteer and are ever ready for missions.

We have two Marines attending Corporals course and three others graduated Corpo-

rals course. Personnel are devoting much of their spare time to improving their martial

arts qualification. We had the martial arts instructors out there whipping it on to train

them. Our Sailors have been busy working on their FMF pin (one has already received his).

This month we have missed some of the major holidays with our families and friends

but we did our best to celebrate those special days with our military family here aboard

Camp Leatherneck. Instead of a fancy Marine Corps Ball in our Dress Blues, we formed up

on November 10th and participated in the 1st Marine Logistics Group cake cutting ceremony.

I truly believe this 235th Marine Corps birthday experience will be one that every one of

the Marines here will have a special memory of. Celebrating the birth of our Corps in a

combat environment lends a great sense of understanding as to why we do what we do.

The very next day we took time to remember our veterans. Each of us did this intheir own way. Being on deployment makes it hit home just a little bit more than usual as

to why Veterans Day is so special. Now each military member can say they have served in a

foreign country in a time of war. Whether they are out on patrols or supporting units inside

the wire, each member is doing their important job in support of the higher cause.

On Thanksgiving, we shared a special meal at the DFAC (chow hall). We gathered to-

gether, told stories of home, and shared laughs as we filled ourselves with all the favorite

foods of the holiday. The sports fans huddled around the television in to get a glimpse of

the football games. It was a pleasant day to relax and be thankful for you eagerly waitingfor our return.

    Friends and Families,

The Marines and Sailors of General Support Motor Transport Company continue to inspire and amaze me with their hard

work, professionalism and superior performance. With the days getting shorter and weather getting colder the Marinesand Sailors have taken it in stride and are continuing to accomplish the missions assigned with confidence. The missionsare very important ones and many Marines commands/units rely on General Support Motor Transport Company in order

to complete their own missions. With the added difficulties of weather and seasonal changes, the Marines and Sailorshavent skipped a beat in maintaining and striving toward continual job excellence in all they do. I want to extend to all

the friends, families and loved ones a happy holiday season, and to again thank you- for all

your devotion and faithfulness both in thought and generosity by way of all the carepackages received. We are looking forward to the holiday season and are tremendously

thankful for everything we have- outstanding camaraderie and great support networks

both here and from home. I am truly swollen with pride and privileged to be the Com-manding Officer of these Marines and Sailors and am looking forward to the unendingwork efforts from them, and unwavering impression and influence they leave etched on

Families, Veterans, Friends, and Supporters of GSMT Company-

Greetings and Happy Holidays to all from the Helmand Providence, here in Afghanistan! Let me start by saying how extremely proud andprivileged I am to be surrounded by such an exceptional group of professionals- your Marines and Sailors of GSMT Company. All have stead-

ily continued to acquit themselves exceptionally well on the battlefield. These Warriors have been working long and hard in reaching and

accomplishing every assigned mission and task given to them with the utmost determination, success, and esprit de corps. Despite the Holiday

Season inching forward, with missed loved ones, sprits remain high and their flex in protecting each other spirals upward- into an ever so vigi-lant and totally committed posture. Rest assure, that your Marines and Sailors have displayed and expressed their gratitude for everyones

support during this honored time of serving our great nation when our duty calls. Your continued outreached efforts of support, words of en-

couragement, and generosity have played a significant role in the continuation of successes we have had thus far- for that I sincerely thank-you

    all.

As one third of our deployment has nearly past, the upcoming months continue to bring a new set of challenges

ahead. Stand strong and honored, that your Marine or Sailor will prevail if faced with adversity through theirdiligence in training, the proven levels of competence at which they have continually preformed to date, and

with the support of their fellow Service Members serving side by side with them- tackling and accomplishingany endeavor that poses a hardship or obstacle with the utmost safety and welfare always at heart and in mind.

Lastly, we are truly grateful for the superior efforts of both those who have dedicated their time and resources

by way of care packages and letters, and of our Family Readiness Officer (FRO), Mrs. Lynda Schubert, serv-ing as the channel and link that connects our Company with family, friends and loved ones. She can be

VETERANS DAY MESSAGE FROM THE COMMANDANT

    ALMAR 44/10

    1. 11 NOVEMBER 1918 MARKED THE END OF THE "GREAT" WAR. ORIGINALLY CELEBRATED AS ARMISTICE DAY

UNTIL 1954, THE DAY WAS SET ASIDE FOR ALL AMERICANS TO REMEMBER THE SERVICE OF THOSE IN UNI-

FORM. NOW KNOWN AS VETERANS DAY, 11 NOVEMBER PROVIDES ALL AMERICANS THE SOLEMN OPPORTUNITY

TO PAY TRIBUTE TO THOSE MEN AND WOMEN WHO HAVE GIVEN SO MUCH OF THEMSELVES IN DEFENSE OF OUR

COUNTRY AND THE FREEDOMS WE HOLD DEAR.

    2. LIKE THEIR PREDECESSORS, TODAY'S SOLDIERS, SAILORS, AIRMEN, MARINES AND COAST GUARDSMEN

CONTINUE TO STAND UNWAVERING IN THE FACE OF DEADLY FOES, PROVIDING SECURITY TO OUR NATION AND

BRINGING STABILITY TO THE OPPRESSED AROUND THE WORLD. SINCE THE BIRTH OF OUR REPUBLIC, AMER-

ICA'S VETERANS HAVE PAID A HIGH PRICE FOR FREEDOM. ON THIS HALLOWED DAY, PLEASE REMEMBER EACH

MEMBER OF OUR MILITARY COMMUNITY WITH REVERENCE FOR THEIR WILLINGNESS TO GO INTO HARM'S

WAY AND SACRIFICE OF THEMSELVES IN SERVICE TO OUR GREAT NATION.

    3. ON BEHALF OF THE ENTIRE MARINE CORPS, I AM HONORED TO SALUTE THE BRAVE MEN AND WOMEN OF OUR

NATION'S ARMED FORCES FOR THEIR DEVOTION TO DUTY AND COMMITMENT TO THE UNITED STATES AND ITS

    CITIZENS.

    4. SEMPER FIDELIS, JAMES F. AMOS, GENERAL, U.S. MARINE CORPS, COMMANDANT OF THE MARINE CORPS.//

Difference between Memorial Day and Veterans Day

Many people confuse Memorial Day and Veterans Day. Memorial Day is a day for remembering

and honoring military personnel who died in the service of their country, particularly those

who died in battle or as a result of wounds sustained in battle. While those who died are also

remembered on Veterans Day, Veterans Day is the day set aside to thank and honor ALL

those who served honorably in the military in wartime or peacetime. In fact, Veterans Day

is largely intended to thank LIVING veterans for their service, to acknowledge that their

contributions to our national security are appreciated, and to underscore the fact that all

those who servednot only those who diedhave sacrificed and done their duty.

    Thanksgiving in Afghanistan

    The wall of holiday greeting

cards has been put up in

the command post. It is al-

    ready getting full of warm

    wishes from friends, fami-

    lies, and the many proud

    Americans that have sent

    care packages to the Ma-

    rines and Sailors of CLR-15

    (FWD).

Although we were not able to spend Thanksgiving

with our families back home, the chow hall person-

nel made sure there was a feast for us to share

    with our deployed family.

Some personnel were not able to make it to the

chow hall during regular chow hours due to mission

requirements, but no fear the chow hall stayedopen later and provided everyone with a hot

    Thanksgiving dinner.

    CO REMARKS

Greetings again, families, friends and love

ones of Maintenance Company. Seems like

time has flown since our last newsletter, butthat is a good thing. When we first arrived on

deck I passed guidance to everyone that

there are two words we would not use when it

came to providing support to our customers

and they were No and Cant. I want you all to know your Ma-

rines continue to amaze not only myself, but everyone they come into

contact with and for the support they are providing all over the Hel-

mand Province of Afghanistan. The weather is getting colder, but it

doesnt matter, your Marines just put on another layer of cloth and

continue to accomplish the mission. They continue to shine and I am

very proud to be their Company Commander.

Once again I would like to welcome the new additions to the Mainte-

nance Company family. First, I congratulate Cpl Benitez and his wife

Lizbeth on the birth of their new baby boy, Carlos Julian Benitez.Next, Id like to congratulate LCpl Villanueva and his wife Cecilia on

the birth of their new baby boy, Edward Matthew. Congratulations to

    you all!!

In closing, Id like to wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving and

Happy Holidays. I know it is hard being away from loved ones dur-

ing this season but I want everyone back home to know that we are a

very tight family out here. The morale and motivation remains high

and your Marines are doing great things. You are all missed dearly

and you all are in our thoughts and prayers.

    Semper Fidelis,

    Major Jim Towney

    1STSGT REMARKS

    Friends and Loved Ones,

I hope you are all doing well back home. This is our sec-ond newsletter and time has its way of sneaking by very

quickly. Before you know it, your loved ones will be back

in the states celebrating our return from Afghanistan. As I

stated in the last newsletter, our warriors motivation re-

mains high and their sense of accomplishment has not dropped a bit. They

continue to amaze me everyday with their abilities to make things happen

    to support the warfighters.

I would like to thank all our family and friends for your generous support.

The outpouring of packages and mail we have received is truly amazing.

Every platoons area you step into has all sorts of treats for everyone to

enjoy. Our Halloween contest was a success, our Thanksgiving field meet

and dinner are upon us, and Christmas lights and decorations are already

going up. Your care packages are certainly helping us make the best out

of our temporary home during the holiday season. Please continue to

keep your Marines motivated with your emails, letters, and packages.

While fully engaged in daily operations we had the opportunity to send

and successfully complete Cpl Jorge Carrillo and Cpl Carlos Yanez to

Corporals Course. Corporals Course is a key foundational training to

enhance the abilities of these Marines and prepare them to be tomorrows

    leaders. Job well done Marines.

In closing, I would like to wish you all a belated Happy Thanksgiving and

holiday season. As warriors, we enjoyed our Thanksgiving in Afghanistan

in the best way we no howwith our Maintenance Company Family. Take

care and have an enjoy the holidays.

Families and Friends of Security Company,

As you might have heard from your service member, the days are long, but the weeks go by fast. The average days

are filled with physical training (PT), walking to and from thechow hall, multiple training classes covering a multitude of

subjects, vehicle preparations, personal gear preparations, and

that time spent while supporting missions.

This monthly letter I would like to highlight our Non-

Commissioned Officers (NCOs) who have been working veryhard everyday to ensure that their squad is the most prepared

and proficient of the seven squads. Security Company is very

lucky to have so many well versed, knowledgeable and hardworking NCOs (Sergeants and Corporals) to lead their Marines

each and everyday in the accomplishment of their missions. Iwould like to highlight the seven squad leaders (also sometimes

referred to as section leaders) this month. The squad leadersand the NCOs in their squads have taken charge and have

made this company run since the beginning. If it wasnt for

their hard efforts and esprit de corps, then this company of

14 different combining units, and 15 different MOSs (militaryoccupational specialties) would not be the fighting force that

    it is today.

So again I want to thank you for the hard work anddedication of all of your Marines and Sailors of Security Com-

pany. As we all are getting into the Holiday Season, your tinsof baked goods and candies are out for all, and the decora-

tions are starting to be hung around their living and work

    Semper Fidelis, Capt Kathy Jensen

Families and Friends of Security Company,

I would like to take time out to introduce myself, Iam GySgt Joseph C. Starzy and I am the 1st Sergeant for

Security Company. I am also damn proud to be a part of thefinest Company in Combat Logistics Regiment 15 (FWD)! You

might say I am a little too PROUD, but our Marines and Sail-ors are the Tip of the Spear and have proven themselves

time and time again every time we leave the wire. We lead allCombat Logistic Patrols from the front and are constantly

relied upon to provide the overall security for those we pro-

tect. By doing this, it supports other units in much neededsupplies to fight the war on terrorism.

We first started as a Company with over 15 differ-

ent military occupation skills from all over the United States. As a Company we are a mixture of many different back-grounds and lifestyles. From the Heartlands of America tothe Big City lights, our Marines and Sailors have come to

forge a hard fighting, hard hitting Marine Unit! This is a

unit to be proud of and thats hold true to the title of Ma-

rines. Our Navy Corpsmen are just as strong and when theiractions to duty calls out, they risk life and limb to save Ma-

rines in need. You might say I am being a little too arrogant, but in fact I am only saying just a little. If you only could see

what I see as their senior enlisted leader, you would be

    proud.

Your Marines and Sailors deal with things mostAmericans couldnt, so I say, be proud of them and know that

your values that you as family members have set, stand as agood foot print within them. We are known as BOONDOCK

SAINTS., for short we are called Boondocks. Our principles

and standards run strong as does our work ethic! From US to

Coalitions forces, we are known throughout the area of op-eration and they always feel safe when we are in route to

recover them. In short we go where others dare and helpwhen others cant! One of our mottos is In hours of Dark-

    ness, We stand strong!

Well folks, if you need anything please feel free to

    Family, friends and loved ones,

I hope this finds you well and you are planning ahead for a great holiday season. I say

planning ahead because just as I said last month if you are safe and the kids are safe then your

Marine or Sailor can keep their head in the ever changing fight. I know this, because I too have a

wife and 5 month old daughter. The majority of Marines who are not married also have a signifi-

cant others they care about. The holidays can be an amazing time for everyone or a stressful

time depending on your planning ahead.

I want to thank all of you for each and every letter, care package and e-mail you send out

here. I cannot explain the priceless look on a Marine s face when he or she receives one of your

packages, reminding them of why they are here. I just received pictures of my wife and daughter

today in the mail and it has really made me feel great. If you have not heard, anything you want to

mail to your Marines by Christmas needs to be sent out by the end of November due to the over-

whelming increase our postal system will receive.

In the meantime, I want to let you know that the spirit of the company is actually

growing stronger with time and it is evident that we are becoming a team and family carrying on

the standards and traditions of the Marine Corps.

you an update of your Marines and Sailorstime is flying by over here! First off, they are doing

great! We have Marines and Sailors spread all over the area of operations providing our unique sup-

ply, distribution, ammunition, medical logistics and customer service support to the Marines, Sailors

and coalition partners of the Regional Command Southwest, Afghanistan. This is a huge task, and

everyone of your loved ones have been up for the challenge. Your Marines and Sailors are profes-

sional, being safe and working diligently to accomplish the mission night and day.

On a softer side, we have fun doing our jobs! Congratulations goes out to the Stor-

age Section for becoming the champion of the First and Only Supply Company Annual Thanksgiving

Football Tournament. All had a blast and enjoyed our time together. Congratulations goes out to the

Smalley and Pineda families on the birth of their children.

Greetings to Families and Friends of Alpha Surgical from

    Afghanistan,

We have been here for one month now and every Marine

and Sailor is doing well. The Company Commander and Idecided that we would visit the Shock Trauma Platoon that

is currently at Payne. I have visited with all the Marinesand Sailors. They are in high spirits. We were treated a

wonderful Thanksgiving Dinner. The Commander and Ihelped serve dinner to the Marines and Sailors on board

the Camp. While at the camp we were able to see the teamin action with several drills. The team is working well to-gether. The Marines and Sailors at Payne celebrated the

235th Marine Corps Birthday by running 235 laps aroundthe camp. Please enjoy the pictures of the Marines andSailors from the STP at Payne. Thank you for all the sup-

    port and Happy Holidays.

To all Families, Friends and Supporters of Alpha Surgical Com-pany: I can assure you that your loved ones are trained and

ready for the next patient. As I visit them throughout the Hel-

mand Province, I am continually impressed by our Sailors and Ma-

rines. Their professionalism and dedication to this mission is un-stinting. I am fond of history. Our link with these past defend-ers of our freedom and way of life is clear and is directly tied to

those that served during the greatest national conflict since thefounding--our own Civil War (1861-1865). It was during that dark

time in 1863 that President Lincoln proclaimed a national day of"Thanksgiving and Praise" that we continue to observe to this

day. I encourage you to read President Lincoln's Thanksgivingproclamation to refresh why we recognize Thanksgiving at http://

    www.nps.gov/history/history/online_books/source/sb2/sb2w.htm

Alpha Surgical may be far away, sojourning in foreign lands but

the mission we perform is vital and necessary.

    Warmest Regards, CDR Jefcoat
