The 3-stage process: An introduction
AlfaPeople Cloud Migration is a 3-stage program to migrate your Microsoft
Dynamics solution off-premise to the Microsoft Azure cloud.
In the Pre-Migration stage, AlfaPeople works proactively with key
stakeholders to fully understand your current operational and commercial
needs on the Dynamics platform, both now and into the future. We
prepare clear guidelines for the Migration stage and address all essential
expectations about the process and its intended outcomes. Then, in the
Migration stage, we deploy our tried-and-tested procedures for data
migration, coding, integration and testing. Finally, it’s time for Go-Live,
which includes training and the option to engage AlfaPeople’s Application
Management Service (AMS).
AlfaPeople’s expert Microsoft-certified consultants take time to understand your current systems and processes to design the very best Cloud Migration pathway for you, your people and your business 3 Microsoft Dynamics 365

Cloud vs. on-premiseThe cloud vs. on-premise debate has raged for years – across all types of businesses and across all types
of industries. However, it is now widely accepted that a Cloud-based system is more cost-effective and
easier to manage, and provides significant functional advantages over on-premise set-ups – especially in
terms of new Cloud-only features that leverage the tools of Microsoft Azure, Microsoft’s Cloud service,
such as relevance search and Organization Insights.
• Customer-driven updates allow flexibility while still ensuring that you continuously
work with the latest version releases. With the fast pace of development, latest product features can unlock significant commercial advantages over businesses that
remain on older versions.
• Your IT department can shift its focus from maintaining infrastructure to building
systems that provide direct business value.
• Microsoft Azure offers a scalable licensing model where you can
quickly and easily change user licenses on a monthly basis.
• The cloud model provides greater predictability with operating expenses (OPEX) instead of capital
expenditure (CAPEX).
• From the cloud, you can access Microsoft
AppSource and a wider variety of Microsoft
Dynamics 365 add-ons.
• Only cloud-based customer can enjoy genuine
24/7 Microsoft Support.
The cloud: A breakdown of benefits

The Cloud Migration Framework: How we workAlfaPeople’s expert consultants follow a Cloud Migration Framework, an end-to-end model that
helps on-premise customers move seamlessly to a cloud-based Microsoft Dynamics 365 platform.
Our Cloud Migration models begins with an initial meeting and ends only when our customer’s
Microsoft Dynamics 365 system is fully functional from the cloud. Our program also considers a
customer’s support and maintenance needs following Go-live.
Focused on quality, speed and cost-effectiveness, the program can take as little as six weeks depending on the complexity of the solution and your business’s overarching expectations and
goals. In the last 12 months, we have deployed our Cloud Migration program across more than
50 organizations globally, in industries as diverse as Fashion & Retail, Healthcare, Government,
Customer Service and Financial Services.
6 Moving your Dynamics Solution to the Cloud
AlfaPeople’s 3-stage process Cloud Migration is a seamless process which migrates your Microsoft Dynamics 365 from on-premise to
the cloud in just 6 weeks.
7 Microsoft Dynamics 365
Pre-migration
In the Pre-Migration stage, AlfaPeople evaluates your
business’s existing use of the Dynamics platform to
determine the best pathway for your migration
to the cloud. With a focus on transparency, we
provide our customers with comprehensive
insights into each task and deliverable
so they fully understand the impact
that migration will have on their core
operations.
The Pre-Migration stage is broken into
Analysis, where we work to understand
all customer-specific qualities and
requirements; and Readiness, where we
perform tasks to prepare for migration.
• Analysis: AlfaPeople gets remote access to
your existing solution. We use tools to evaluate and
determine the requirements for complete migration,
addressing database size, how the system is used, licenses,
and so on. We can also look at the source code, and if we identify
unsupported code in the solution, we deliberate between upgrade or rebuild and estimate the
associated costs. Analysis concludes with a meeting, where we present your Cloud Migration
program.
• Readiness: We look closely at your licensing needs (user types and storage) to re-evaluate
the license types that best suit you. We also discuss storage needs – especially if your business
operates a large database. We advise on potential alternative solutions for data storage, such as
Sharepoint and Azure storage options. We also guide you in the set-up of new Microsoft Dynamics
365 instances, and ensure these are ready for migration.

Migration Schedule
The example schedule below is based on a standard upgrade with limited customization. It does not
include any resource restrictions. The Migration phase is booked for three weeks. The schedule could
potentially be reduced with a one-to-one migration, where we do not introduce new functionality. Each
schedule is customizable – for example some companies prefer a longer test period or a development
phase for new functionality. These requirements can be accommodated. Typically, a full migration takes
between six and eight weeks.
Review of analytical results – existing configurations and customizations
(unsupported code will be identified).
Review of existing integrations – integrations can often be reused with a lot
of small changes.
Review of the scope for data migration – in most cases we migrate all
relevant data, but in some cases, for example if the CRM solution is very old with
questionable data quality, it can be beneficial to migrate certain records from only
the past few years.
Review of new customer processes and functionality requirements.
Review of Microsoft Azure feature options and new features the customer
may want to enable.
Agreement on the migration schedule.
Configuration of new Microsoft Dynamics 365 online instance(s).
Pre-Migration checklist
9 Microsoft Dynamics 365
When all components are updated and implemented, and AlfaPeople has upgraded any unsupported
code, the customer will complete a final user acceptance test and confirm that everything is correct.
Then, we have a fully functional online version of the customer’s CRM solution with data available up to
a week or two in the past. We end this phase with a decision to proceed with the Go-Live cutover.
Migration checklist
Perform migration of all features, add-ons, data and integrations.
Test the migrated solution.
Adjust customizations and enable new features as desired.
Upgrade ISV solutions.
Replace/upgrade code.
Migration
• Initial Migration: AlfaPeople moves all functionality and
data from the customer’s on-premise solution to the
new cloud instance. This includes configurations
(system settings, etc.), customizations (solution files),
extensions (code), and data. We smoke test as we go
and finalize this step with a presentation of the new,
upgraded, cloud environment.
• System Verification: Based on the scope of migration,
and on a customer’s preferences, we schedule a block
of time for User Acceptance Testing. We focus on
ensuring all data has been transferred as expected. If there
are features in use that have changed from the on-premise
version, we ensure these continue to work. The user interface
layout may also be different and need some attention before Go-Live.
The Migration phase consists of two steps:
10 Moving your Dynamics Solution to the Cloud
Go-LiveThe Go-Live phase includes two steps: Cutover, and
Maintenance and Support. The cutover involves a final
data migration. Then there is a period that typically
lasts one-two days – in rare cases up to a few weeks.
AlfaPeople ensures that all knowledge here about
the new solution is transferred to the support and
maintenance setup, agreed. Support and maintenance
of the solution can either be handled internally within
your own organisation, by an external partner or by
using the AlfaPeople AMS (Application Maintenance
Services).
Cutover: This step is carried out during a scheduled downtime
window and includes stopping all activity in the production On
Premise system, performing a delta data migration, testing and then
enabling the online system. Depending on the criticality of the Microsoft
Dynamics 365 system, the timeframe may be scheduled outside of business hours, however it is important to
note that the amount of changed/new data can take anywhere from 2 hours to 2 days to migrate. In addition,
this step necessitates a tight collaboration between AlfaPeople and Subject Matter Experts at the customer to
ensure all activates are completed during the cutover window.
Maintenance and Support: This is an important aspect of a successful migration. When the end user
receives a new system, it will inevitably spawn challenges and many ideas for corrections, adjustments and
enhancements. It is vital for the user adoption to have an organization ready to absorb and handle this workload
efficiently. Secondly, one of the biggest advantages of cloud platform is that Microsoft regularly launches
updates. But an organization must also be ready to absorb this stream of new and changed features to gain the
benefits. This is both in relation to keeping stable operation, but also to see, filter, operationalize new features.
Migration checklist
Migrate all changed and new data.
Configure and enable all components in the Azure system.
Sign off on the new system.
Shut down the former on-premise system.
Initiate AMS.
