The Eucharist
"The Lamb of God," "The Bread of Life," "The Body and the Blood of Christ"... these are phrases we know from the Mass. But do we understand what they mean in the greater and deeper context of Scripture
and Church teachings? Acclaimed author and teacher Dr. Brant Pitre rigorously digs down to the biblical roots of the Eucharist, through its foreshadowing in the miraculous events of the Old Testament, the Gospels, and Apostolic teaching. Join us as we discover firsthand how "this is My Body" and "this is My Blood" is an integral and wondrous part of God's plan for our salvation.
Starts Wednesday, March 9th – May 18 (No Class on
March 16) 10 weeks
Time: 9:30a.m. – 11:00a.m. | Location: Meeting Room #2 Cost: free study, but child care will cost $20.00. Call Parish Office for more details: 422.5700

LENTEN DAY OF REFLECTION on Saturday, February 27th 2016 at
Sanctuary of Hope Prayer & Retreat Center, 2601 Ridge Ave, Kansas
City. KS 66102, ”Where you stand is holy ground” Exodus 3:5,By:
Fr. Dennis Wait. Begins at 7:45- 8:15AM with registration, coffee
and pastries. Fr. Dennis will give two presentations, followed by
time for private reflection, Reconciliation, and spiritual direction. We
will celebrate the Mass, followed by lunch and closing of retreat.
Suggested donation is $30/individuals and $50/couples. Please reg-
ister by February 23rd by e-mailing [email protected] or
calling 913-321-4673.
How should the RCIA process en-
courage all Catholics to enter into
Lent more deeply?
The Church, in the RCIA process, calls
the proximate time immediately preced-
ing initiation, the period of “Purification
and Enlightenment” for those in the RCIA
process. That is what Lent is meant to
be for all of us, who are already receiv-
ing the graces poured out through the
sacraments of the Church. The Church
calls us to reflect on our own baptismal
graces, through prayer, penance and
almsgiving. We are also called to pray
for those who are approaching the Easter
sacraments of initiation. Throughout Lent
we enter into the Passion of Jesus
Christ. We turn our hearts and minds in
prayer to our own Way of the Cross, we
call our own wounds by name, and we
give them to the Divine Healer. When
we behold the empty tomb at Easter we
can be filled with joy, believing with
complete certainty that those chains that
bind us have been broken, and that life,
not death is our birthright.
RCIA Rite of Sending celebrated at 4:30 Mass this Weekend
The RCIA Rite of Sending offers the parish community an opportunity to acknowledge
the spiritual progress the catechumens and candidates have made, express approval
of their election or recognition and send them forth to the bishop for the Rite of Elec-
tion on Tuesday evening at Holy Trinity Parish.
At the Rite of Election, the following catechumens (those preparing for Bap-
tism) will be invited to come forward and sign a book, which we call the
“Book of the Elect” as a sign of their desire to be numbered among the cho-
sen of God: Jonathan Brancato, Geoff Chow, Kelly Hawkins, Jennifer Lyster, Jessica
Pham, Kimberly Tharp (now referred to as “the Elect”).
The following baptized candidates will celebrate this night the RCIA Rite of
“the Call to Continuing Conversion”: Joy Baskind, Robert Blatcher, Cindy Bran-
cato, Heather Brulez, Joe Chick, Andrea DeWees, Ray Fuller, Amber Kresha, Frank
Macias, Nicholas Nickell, Sarah Nyp, Shannon Pfeiffer, Teresa Pokos, Kelly Prestia,
Savana Sanchez, Alexis Schulte, Rebecca Schwartz, Lori Sosna, Jeff & Kris Vince.
This Rite will encourage them to hear the Lord’s call to conversion and to be faithful
to their baptismal covenant.
The elect and candidates are thereby moved by these Rites into a final period of in-
tense spiritual preparation leading up to the celebration of the Sacraments at East-
er. Please keep our Elect and candidates in your prayers as they continue this im-
portant journey.
"A LIFE WORTH LIVING"A LENTEN CONCERT
FEATURING STEVE COURTNEY AND FRIENDS
Friday Evening, March 4, 7:00 P.M. at Church of the Ascen-
sion, Overland Park, KS Not everyone knows that one of the
meanings of Lent is “Springtime”—a time for new life and growth.
The penitential element of Lent helps us to clear out whatever
might keep us from growing in the knowledge, love and joy of Je-
sus—whatever gets in the way of “A Life Worth Living.!”Steve
Courtney, Fr. Kent O’Connor, Ellen Tuttle, Mark Fortino, Dorothy
Brandwein and other singers will present this Lenten concert which
is anything BUT “solemn” and “serious”. This inspirational concert
will be enjoyed by all ages, so bring the whole family and tell your
friends, as well. There is no admission but donations will be ac-
cepted to benefit our Archdiocesan Retreat House—Christ’s Peace,
House of Prayer.

The Eucharist is the ultimate su-
perfood for the soul, loaded with
grace to keep you spiritually
healthy, give you the wisdom and
strength to choose the right path,
and fight off diseases like selfish-
ness and other related vices and
bad habits. And that is just a tiny
fraction of the power the Eucharist
holds –Matthew Kelly
