MSc/Dip/Cert in Clinical EducationMost clinicians will be able to think of someone who played an important role as a teacher in their professional development. Increasingly this educational role is seen not only as a part of what it is to be a professional, but also a professional duty enshrined in codes of practice. At the same time, career pathways are being established that recognise and reward educational leaders.

This programme provides a thorough grounding in education for those involved in the training of professionals at all levels, including undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing professional development.

After completing the MSc in Clinical Education, graduates will understand how to:

• Apply educational principles and theory to their teaching practice

• Plan, deliver and evaluate teaching for undergraduate and postgraduate students at the levels of programme, course and individual session

• Design formative and summative assessments

• Critically evaluate their own teaching practice

• Access and critically evaluate the educational literature

• Plan and conduct a research project in clinical education

Who is the programme for?We welcome applications from individuals involved in the education of doctors, nurses, allied health professionals, dental practitioners, veterinary educators, and biomedical or social scientists who teach any of these professions.

Programme structure and flexible study optionsThe programme is delivered entirely online (usually part-time) and you may exit at Certificate or Diploma level. The Postgraduate Certificate can be completed in one year, the Postgraduate Diploma in two years and the MSc in three years. Some flexibility in the length of the programme of study is possible. The Diploma year offers a growing range of courses to choose from. Students who progress to Masters level will complete a supervised dissertation project on a topic of their choosing.

Most of our students continue to work as full-time clinicians and educators and the programme is designed to integrate course materials with day to day experience. We place significant emphasis on interaction between tutors and participants. Extensive use is made of online discussions in which you can broaden your knowledge base during collaborative study and interaction with colleagues. You will be supported with access to continually developing extensive online resources and the experienced multi-disciplinary tutors will share with you their current educational research projects.

Career opportunitiesAs a graduate of the programme you will have acquired transferable skills associated with collaborative and self-directed learning and research, more specifically: written communication; oral and visual presentation; collaborative and interpersonal skills; planning and execution of learning strategies; analytical and critical reasoning skills.

The first year of the programme (the Postgraduate Certificate) is accredited by the HEA (Higher

Education Academy) and successful completion provides eligibility to apply for Fellowship of the Academy. We are also accredited by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.
