debuted on Broadway in 1975. But now you can get a chance toexperience a production that is so faithful to the original version andfeatures such phenomenal talent both onstage and behind the scenes thatyou can truly say you witnessed another "Singular Sensation!"
Theatergoers will want to get in line now for tickets to A ChorusLine, presented by Baldwin Wallace University’s Music Theatreprogram in collaboration with the Department of Theatre and Dance. The show runs one more weekend through Nov. 22, and judging fromthe reaction of the opening night crowd, will bring everyone to their feetin a rousing and welldeserved standing ovation.
Taking place during an audition for dancers and set in the 1970s, themusical connects on an inspirational and emotional level with audienceof all ages and walks of life. The session is filled with awkwardintroductions, embarrassing admissions, intimate revelations, and hilarious outbursts. It is also filled with an endless display ofamazing acting, singing, and dancing, thanks to its colorfully complexcharacters and the reallife performers on whom they were based.
Director Victoria Bussert not only accomplishes the incredible feat ofrecreating this flawless show flawlessly, but she does double duty bydirecting two casts of triple threats. Her masterful handling of bothsplashy showstoppers and sensitive solo sequences would have made theshow's creators including Michael Bennett, James Kirkwood, NicholasDante, Marvin Hamlisch, Edward Kleban and Bob Avian very proudindeed.
Bussert's creative colleagues also contribute to the authenticity of theshow and its powerful impact on viewers. Choreographer GregoryDaniels is in his element, restaging the iconic numbers from MichaelBennett's original production with energized precision. Meanwhile, music director David Pepin keeps the rhythm pulsating from one song tothe next. Nicholas Wilders aided the action as assistant director, as diddance captains Adrian Grace Bumpas and GennaPaige Kanago. Andadding to the accuracy is Tony Awardwinner Donna McKechnie, whocreated the role of Cassie on Broadway and served as a specialconsultant during rehearsals.
